First time on your channel. Man that station wagon is serious! love it! Even if that Elco isn't an original SS or big block car it's worth saving. Pretty solid looking. And I love that it's a factory 4-speed car. Need to rip out that steering column and fix the crime that was committed when they swapped in an automatic.
When I was a kid my dad drove a 1971 SS 454 Elco it was a 4 speed car, red w black stripes. Him and my uncle were both into drag racing and they supported that habit by converting VW Bugs into Dunebuggies with a fiberglass body and crazy metal flake paint jobs. As a kid in the 70's I didn't realize how cool that was but looking back now at how rare those Dunebuggies are I realize that he and my uncle were pretty genius. Back then my mom drove a 1965 SS 327 Impala, it was Lavender with white interior 👍it was a beautiful car.
Great find brother 👍. I'd keep ahold of that one. Seen a nova in the background. I'm still looking for a 72 Chevelle to restore. I owned two of them back in the day. Wish I'd kept them. But back then,Chevelle's weren't scarce. Hopefully I'll find one before I kick the ole bucket Lol. ✌️👍
Man I love the 72's but for some reason I've always been drawn to the 1973 Malibu and its because it's the only year they made the round tail lights above the rear bumper. I just love that look and like you I owned and built 2 of them in the late 80's & early 90's until I became a dad n got married and had to sell a lot of stuff. I'm driving a 2015 ScatPack Challenger now and it brings those feelings back just fine 👍
Dude great stuff! You have a sub here. Great work and great find. The 12 bolt alone is probably worth more then you paid for the car. :). Good luck with your build!
I never kiss and tell but you’re pretty close 😁👍🏾 Thanks for following. Follow my Instagram if you haven’t already. I’ll be building here and on there.
Saw one of these 69 chevell elcamino's with original 396 and 4speed going on the way down to my home town 2years ago. But no motor or trans. And needed way to much work.
If you just get that thing back on the road it would be an improvement. Get it running and someone can enjoy it and work on it until they get to the point where they need to either blow it apart and paint it or just keep it as is.
That faded out paint job could shine like new you might think I’m crazy for saying this rub the car down with automatic transmission fluid it will shine like a new penny just keep it off dirt roads that’s if your not going to paint the car anytime soon !!! Lot’s of luck on getting it out from that spot hope to see more videos of it as you build it !!!
Wow-what a find! It just hit me though, 50 years from now someone will be doing a video on a Dodge Challenger Demon or Hellcat or another current muscle car one day sitting in a salvage yard.
I saw a lot of old gold there. Lots of them were sweet cars on the road. Even a four door hardtop 63 ford galaxie needs another chance at glory... didn't see a lot wrong with that hardtop olds or the mustang... hell everywhere you looked, that 65 chevy was beat on the hood but the top looked like it was all there. Tons on money rotting away, hope you can get it out without killing some other cars...curious what you really paid for it
I’d rather a 396;than a 454 maybe it is a ss because can’t seeing a guy going to trouble to put a ss interior in it but we’re is the console did you check the vin and is it a real ss
I like the caprice wagon! What year is it? I once had a 400 small block out of a 73 caprice wagon! It was worked over, bored, and such and stuffed into a 79 Z28 Camaro! But those caprices have great engines!
I watch a lot of these type videos. Would like to know the trick in finding something like this or other cars. At times it looks to easy, or I'm just jealous of your peoples luck. Lol. 8:37 How can it be a 4 spd when it has a brake pedal for automatic and no clutch pedal ?
Column was switched out and clutch pedal removed. 4 speed linkage is still dangling in the engine compartment. I’ll do another video showing the underside.
My cousin found mine for me sitting outside someone’s yard I bought it and immediately put slotted disc brakes on the front w/ beefed up calipers $4000 racing suspension A1 adjustable front shocks Hotchkis swaybar’s Borla exhaust & stainless steel headers and pipes😎 $5,000 later? 👉🏽GET OUTTA MY WAY! 🇺🇸
Nice score I would do anything to get me a 65 impala, 67 or 68 chevelle,65 -72 el Camino and a 67-81 camaro. If I was you I'd keep it all original but that's me .that's cool my dude.
(Sigh), lot of "misunderstandings," me thinks here, but appreciate your enthusiasm! That 'elcky, is a frame off restoration... at MINIMUM. I know. (Won't go into embarrassing details... just, believe it). I really hope you're working in a shop that specialises in this kind of shit, 'cause you'll be neck deep it one! Best of luck!
It'l Take A Month To Get it Out Of Yard,W) All of Crap Around It.By Time U Repl.Eng.& Figure Out All That Needs Repl..U' l Have TWICE INTO IT WHAT CAMINO IS WORTH.Least It' s NOT A Complete RUST BUCKET.
Who cares if its a 4speed or auto its a fucking ss396 el Camino a very cool car once restored its gonna be a very bitching ride cool vid bro glad you shared it with youtube fans.
Ah, the video title implies it has a "4 speed" manual transmission but there's no clutch pedal or gear shift? I also thought it had an engine (396)? I'm guessing the project will be to install a rebuilt (by you) 396, convert it to a 4 speed transmission (clutch pedal, gear shift, etc...) and whatever needs to be done to get it looking and running right. ;-)
Originally it was a 396/4 speed. They were robbed years ago. Some of the linkage is still hanging and it will be put back to that drivetrain. Still not sure what the column was swapped out of.
Great find! I think you have a better car with your Caprice Classic wagon. I had a 76 two door caprice with a 454 factory hp motor. Wish I had it today.
I hate to be the one to tell you but that El Camino is not an original Super Sport. I see two things right off the bat that would not be found on a true Super Sport. I believe that somebody has tried to make it look like a super sport. The emblem above the glove box is 1968 only. The driver side door panel is not a 1969 door panel. I believe the SS 396 emblems on the door panels are not original. In other words somebody added them. The steering column is out of a Pontiac. But the real giveaway is the Malibu Fender molding holes in the front fenders and I think if you look for holes behind the panels where the Malibu trim would be you'll find those holes in the ends of the door, in the fender and in the rear quarter panels. Also the steering shaft is a small block shaft not a big block.
You obviously didn’t look at the driver’s fender or take note that the whole steering column has been changed or even that Monaco Orange was only available on SS396 Chevelles and El Caminos. But what do I know, I just own it 🤷🏾♂️

findes keepers nice rare find G. btw forget Mike
Back when they had body lines and style not like the modern junk on the road today. Nice station wagon by the way👍
Back when cars were made out of car!!
my buddy bought one new in 69. ss396,425hp, 4spd. way cool.

hell of a find man. Its sad it ended up there and nobody cared enough to keep it on the road.
El Caminos are good for hauling three things. Potato chips, ping pong balls and a jet boat.
I’ve always wanted to build a big block jet boat 😏

the roof on the ground next to the el camino is wearth alot, i guess its for chevy/pontiac -59/60 wagon.
