    I have this engine in my 2018 F150. Has been great to 140k miles. About to replace plugs and coils. Has plenty of power for what I do. Tow a 19’ boat about 20 times each year to the lake. I have also hauled heavy in the bed with it too. Truck does just fine for anything anyone short of some sort of business owner hauling or towing a lot.

    I initially thought that I might have regretted ordering the 3.3 but couldn’t be happier after a year and a half. Does everything that I need it to do, zero issues, very easy to maintain and they run forever. I normally trade in every three years but it might not happen seeing as how the 3.3 was discontinued.

      Just used a 3.3 equipped truck to tow about 8k 150 miles. First 50 coming out of the Ozarks. It cried a little on a couple hills but for the most part it did great. Once I dropped the trailer and drove it home on a fresh tank of gas o pulled in my son in laws drive at 24.9 mpg. Super crew 4x4. I'm now looking for one like it for myself.

    I bought a F150 used with the 5.0. I paid 40K for an XLT crewcab 18,000 miles. If I could have found one used, I would have bought the 3.3 to tow my 3200 lb boat and trailer. I do lots of highway driving. I'm happy with the 5.0 and especially happy not paying 50K ordering a new truck! I would rather have the 3.3 than the 4 cylinder turbo in the GM full size pickups! The 3.3 should be an option in the Ranger and Bronco!

  • @cmc5394oparva

    Yeah, this is a good engine. It's not exciting to drive, but I don't care about driving a "fun" truck with Egoboost powah. I care about getting from point A to point B without all the additional complexity, that will allow me to tow or haul the occasional light load from Home Depot. It's a rather shocking case of Ford getting something right, almost immediately out of the gate, in a functional package. And if I wanted power, I'd just get the 5.0 V-8.
    The irony is that Ford could have dropped these things in the Mavericks, Broncos, Explorers, and Rangers, and provided a decent engine for a reasonable price, that would actually meet the needs of the customers buying them. Hell, this thing could have even worked in a larger sedan if they hadn't abandoned the segment. But one thing I've learned in the 30 years I've owned Fords is that the company will consistently blow off the reliable products they do create in favor of whiz-bangs that need constant modifications until the kinks are worked out, or they move on to the next gee-whiz trend.

    I'm pretty impressed! Adaptive cruise, dual zone climate, 360 degree camera, trailer backup assist, etc. is pretty impressive for an XLT model. I think the 302A XLT with the better headlights and the 2.7 or 5.0 will be a value sweet spot.

      Turbo lag and heavy loads is your rear diff blowing out at 45K as the torque keeps jumping back and forth as the turbos keep spinnning up and down. Oh, and while it will run on 87 octane, the ecoboost is very unhappy about it. Note that Ford tests their turbo vehicles on 93 octane "for best eperformance". Going to 87 on the 3.5L dropped the HP to 360. Add in the extra cost of the turbo engine up front and the eventual cost to fix the turbos (they are just like a water pump - it will need replacing some day) ... WHY?

Mine has the center console remote start, adjustable foot pedals, bed lighting, driver and passenger power seats, heated front seats, navigation auto headlights etc. no built in garage opener and 18” Crome six spoke wheels. Exactly what I was looking for. Reliability for me, plenty of power because I don’t tow much. Previous owner never pulled anything because it doesn’t show up on the computer and I know who owned it. I’ve used the 4x4 on the beach, light trails, and even in the snow that we had here in Texas last year. I honestly love my truck and am so glad I ended up buying. I mean sure, the v8s and turbo charged guys will smoke me off the line, but in the 5 years of having my truck, I haven’t tried to street race a single truck, bike, or sports car so I guess I’ll be just fine in that department

    • @josephoberlander
      @josephoberlander Рік тому +1

      It's a slightly modified version of what they used in the V6 Mustang. (and only 50hp less than the mid 2000s V8) It's essentially bulletproof as there's little to go wrong with it. The main problem with the ecoboost is that turbos and heavy loads are a poor combination. Imagine going up a hill and the turbo keeps kicking in and out ( as it will do to try to maintain speed as there's a roughly 150HP difference with the turbo off ) - this is just adding drivetrain lash as the torque goes from almost nothing (granny mode) to full power. It just shifts a LOT - which is wear on the transmisison you don't need versus a non-turbo engine. Throttle and turbo lag is quite noticeable as well. Versus a V6 or V8 that just plugs along. And to add insult to injury, you need premium fuel or you lose a lot of power. It will run safely on 87, but it's not happy about it. At 3K ft elevation where I live, all of the ecoboosts are way down on power to keep from knocking.
      So.. ~300HP on normal fuel and no issues at all versus ~350hp on an unhappy ecoboost on regular gas, complete with throttle and turbo lag and more driveline wear... I mean you Can run premium fuel in it, but it's almost 40 cents a gallon more expensive where I live, killing any economy advantage over the V8, even.

      @@madebydade305ify 18 city, 30 highway, 24.5 combined over 125K miles of tracking my fill-ups. The Ecoboost wasn't a better engine in any way, and in some worse. The reason they did it anyways? They hadn't had a Mustang in Europe for almsot 30 years and needed a global platform. Most of the rest of the world taxes cars based on displacement, which is why you now see so many little turbos. But no tiny turbo is going to beat the simplicity of a V6.

    • @overyonderjustapiece
      @overyonderjustapiece 11 місяців тому

      Try 20 times in a row to get this turd to have a "decent" takeoff and it will NEVER happen. Even with traction control and the advanced stability off, it still sucks donkey balls for takeoff! When it has 290 hp it should be taking off something vaguely similar to the old 5.0 mustangs that only had 230. Yes its heavier but it just DOES NOT want to go anywhere until you are over 2300 rpm.
      And yes, I have the '18 XLT 2WD and it is honestly quite disappointing when you want to get going in a hurry sometimes. Also, whatever engine control program it uses, HP Tuners does not support THIS ENGINE ONLY for the years it has been available. If I keep mine once it is paid for. I will only keep it BECAUSE it is paid for.

    In here reading all the replies.. I just purchase the f150 with the 3.3 LOADED 2023 for 41K out the door, If you shop around... I got mine because the city ordered thirty of them and they rejected the 6.5 beds,, so I got it for fleet price.. 3.3l , everything in it.. Got bed liner too hitch and 33 gallon fuel tank, included. I love it!! Plenty of power for me. I do not haul anything but I do long distance trips.. I have not gone anywhere yet but from the dealer to my home.. 15 miles on the clock... Yeah this is a keeper. And no its not in oxford white! ;)

The only drawback to the 2.7 is the 8 speed transmission, which is being fixed. That was a issue. The motor itself is very reliable, and only got better with the second generation. It is people that are uneducated, and think a motor is unreliable, because is turbo charged.

    This is the motor I have in my 2020 regular cab. I understand that it's the base model, but I get frustrated at the lack of power almost every time I drive it. It's getting close to being paid off and truly that is the only reason I am going to keep it. New trucks are too expensive for me to accept. Mine has been problem free for 3 years and 32k miles so unfortunately, I can't justify buying a new one with the 2.7 or 5.0.

    This 3.3 V6 will outlast every other engine this side of the 5.0 V8........Both EcoBoobs (2.7 and 3.5) are ALWAYS fun to ride, but like their fun "jiggly" name entails, these are "enhanced" high-performing shorter dates with no longer term commitments. If you need a light duty truck with lower end towing and a place to carry "stuff" in the back to the countryside, heck this is even better than buying a larger SUV!

    2.7 is dog sh** and unreliable. 3.5 is horrible too. They are getting better but they aren't there yet. The best F-150 powertrains for reliability are the 3.3 and the 5.0 both are bulletproof and will last a long time. If you need to tow frequently get the 5.0, if not get the 3.3 most everyone should get the 3.3 especially those who haul kids and groceries with it.

    Would be an awesome engine if it wasn’t 12:1 compression like the 5.0 which translates to premium fuel = 91 octane or higher look it up in your owners manual…. And yes the Ecoboost is the same… Ohh ya it’s “designed” to run on 87 octane… what they don’t tell you in that “design” is that it’s running empty on a flat ground in cold weather. In addition to costing more money for premium gas it’s also the first fuel to run out anytime we have a “fuel shortage” Long story long 😂. If you just want a work truck that runs on 87 octane 24/7 you have to step up to a 3/4 ton or higher because the EPA/ Govt isn’t dictating “fuel economy” As per usual when they get involved it sucks and is no fun, will cost more money and reliability goes down the drain…😢
