- On May 6, nearly 13,800 ASU undergraduate candidates gathered with family and friends to celebrate their spring commencement.
The spring class, the largest in ASU history, comprises close to 14,700 campus immersion students and more than 6,700 online students. It also marks the 10th anniversary of the Starbucks College Achievement Plan and its 100,000th online graduate earning their degree this summer.
President Michael Crow welcomed the eager crowd declaring that this community for teaching, learning and discovery draws global attention as a bastion for free speech, invention and creativity. Crow emphasized, “We’re not an abstract institution that lives in an ivory tower barely connected to reality. We take responsibility.”
The evening’s celebration was especially meaningful to those whose high school graduations were canceled due to a worldwide pandemic. These hopeful and resilient ASU graduates will be among the 9,500 Arizonans joining the workforce and contributing to the state and national economies.
