    Abstractions does not mean vagueness. It's generalization or decontextualization for greater applicability and investigation.

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  8 років тому +3

      +Joshua L Very true. Generalizations and assuming another person comes to the same abstractions can lead to vagueness though. I think that's where my connection of abstract and vague came from, assuming you're referring to something I said in the video :P
      I guess it all depends on how you wield the iNtuition.

    • @mpcc2022
      @mpcc2022 8 років тому +2

      +Geek Psychology Generalization is a process of impersonalization and extension through decontextualization. One needs to find the essential characteristics of a thing that stay consistent and unchanging across a multitude of platforms, and then one can create an abstraction. The point of abstractions are too eliminate vagueness, because one essentially discards the unessential and superficial aspects of a thing and instead keeps what is essential and consistent. For example, apples, oranges, grapes and bananas have nothing in common by way of color, or flavor, or any other superficial metric, and shape is roughly consistent between an apple and orange; however, they can all be made to fit the category fruit, because they are all the same part of some plant whether tree or vine, and serve the same function to the tree. That's what abstraction is. Removing things from context, so you can have a greater applicability, or understanding. I see how one may come to another conclusion, but when one asks, "what's essential and invariant", there aren't a multitude of possibly reasonable answers.

      Ok, you're trying too hard. All you're doing is describing things in a long winded and unnecessary manner and saying "wrong" when people don't do the same. "Actually that's not a glass of water, it's a cylindrical vessel filled with H2O which is needed to sustain life" same shit dude, shut up, seriously.

    • @mpcc2022
      @mpcc2022 8 років тому +2

      ***** Thank you, for confirming the anti-intellectual bias that is the disease of American culture. My reply is long winded if you have the reading comprehension of a 5th grader, and get all your relevant facts from Facebook. I'm sorry it doesn't come with pictures, and that I care about accuracy, and empirical descriptions of reality. Your wife was hangingout with another guy, is not the same as your wife is having an affair. Ambiguity and generalization isn't even close to the same thing, and if you think they are, shut up and read a dictionary. Context matters as well, you don't need to know water is H2O to pick up a glass and drink it; however, if one is making a description of another's cognition and desciminating it then it should be accurate. Take your preschool rhetoric and use it against someone who doesn't have half a brain. Ambiguity and Abstractions are not the same thing, and if you think they are then it's not my problem you're an idiot, and you can spare me the time.

    I love how you explained this. You are spot on. YESSSS. Thank you for understanding us weird (but wonderfully cool ;)) NT types. We break things down to understand things, and use that information for world domination. You are correct. :D Thank god for the feelers to help us understand people and their esoteric motivations and for the sensors to keep us in the moment, grounded and moving forward.

    I am an INFP that used to lean heavily to Thinking(49/51) and in midlife got into spiritual or psychological alchemy.... after you mentioned alchemy in the video, you later got into talking about the INFP of recombining words and word play... to me, that was the key to understanding alchemy.... it seems like we may be bullshitting ourselves as we recombine ideas, words in our mind in order to purify values and basis for actions... the reason it isn't bullshitting is that the point is to align previously unexamined ideologies with the heart..... so we examine our desires and actions for example ... and realize there are positive and negative sides to our motivations... and through Feeling What is right we actually change Where We Are Coming From... even if outwardly we are continuing an action that we felt a need to examine, it is going to be coming from a place that Feels more authentic... or correct...

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  7 років тому +1

      Alchemy is really interesting. I don't know much about it tbh, but I love taking apart and recombining ideas related to people.
      Well said. Not related to alchemy, but I really find that awareness of self through examining positive and negative aspects is the key to knowing "where we are" like on a GPS. Then, through knowing where we are, we see the possible routes to get to our goals.

    use the base element such as water, air, metal, earth, and fire to categorize and corelate its characteristics with each mbti block maybe will make it more interesting, and add the basic stat such int, str,dex etc lol

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  8 років тому

      +danang antonov I've tried many times to tie RPG stats to this and I'm never fully satisfied. Not sure why. I tend to stick with Thinking = int, Feeling = spirit, Sensing = str, iNtuition = dex for the current "patch."
      As for elements, I've recently been playing with ideas. Ni = wind. Ne = electricity. Se = fire. Si = metal. Te = stone. Ti = time/space. Fe = water. Fi = light. I'm seeing if I can use these to remove the class restrictions I've made and allow people to be, say, a "stone warrior" as an ExTJ because they feel more like a warrior than a geomancer.

    • @vinnchou
      @vinnchou 8 років тому +2

      I think it would be cool if you developed some kind of story, game, etc. that resembles some MBTI elements!
      As an INTP, I've thought about how each NT type can be put into elemental categories as well, where it is more horoscope based on the basic elements of air, water, earth, and fire. After doing a bit research on Carl Jung's work, I do not think it is a coincidence he embodied the metaphysical concepts of spirituality, mind, religion, etc.
      That being said,
      INTJ: WATER;
      ENTJ: EARTH;
      ENTP: FIRE;
      INTP: AIR
      The reason as to why I've put the NT types in these relative element comparisons as you could also do that with NF, ST, and SF is because:
      An INTJ being Ni dominant, they synchronize their thoughts together to make their intuitive leap. Water having the characteristics of adapting to new concepts easily but not without form, as water can be just as rough and hard like "EARTH" (ENTJ) but then at the same time not really the same form of structure. Water is accepting but not without form, just as how water takes the form of the container in which it is placed. The ENTJ, being a Te dominant, they try to make an impact on the outside world, while their intuition mainly serves Te.
      Even though they are introverted, when you compare it with the INTP, they have more sense of structure, thus having form and fluidity like the INTP (AIR), while the INTP lack form. When comparing the INTP to the ENTP.
      The ENTP extrovert energy, "as air and fire are spontaneous energies of creativity", but when you compare fire to air, it is different in the way they express ideas. Fire being more extroverted in nature, is also means they have endless sparks of brilliant original ideas that just keeps coming. The INTP is like air because air is hard to grasp, but INTPs life's purpose is to grasp the concepts and understanding of what others would seemingly see as nothing since it is too abstract from the perspectives of the outsider. The creativity of air, differing from fire would be that air emphasizes more on the way things are whilst fire still has more resonance with its user (feeling) when creating. Examples would be having one's identity resembled in their creative works. (kind of hard to explain lol, kind of just saw your comment and happened to just thought about this...)
      Anyway, for the NF types I'm considering this, but if I were to explain how I came up with it, it's gonna take a while haha, it's like the more I try to explain it the more I find myself writing more than I'm supposed, I didn't think this would be this long btw lol. (-_-)meh..too lazy..
      INFJ: AIR
      INFP: WATER
      ENFP: EARTH
      ENFJ: FIRE
      MBTI:
      NT: WATER (or air?)
      NF: AIR (or water?)
      ST: EARTH
      SF: FIRE
      UGH..?
      MBTI:
      NT: WATER (or air?)
      NF: AIR (or water?)
      SJ: EARTH
      SP: FIRE
      Thanks for your video!!!

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  8 років тому

      Thanks for the comment! Wow you've thought a lot about it. See, why I like the elemental idea, I'm still trying to find a way to just give people the RPG building blocks and let them tweak it to their own liking.
      I'm also trying to think of ways to combine it into a story that'll help people discover their type / metaphors / etc., but it's not ready yet...

    Which test is the best? I have used myers briggs, and it said I was a ENTJ. I used a free one online 6 years later, and it says I'm a ENTP.

    • @GeekPsychology
      @GeekPsychology  7 років тому +6

      I personally think it's better to just study up on the cognitive functions A LOT and figure it out yourself through trial and error / awareness. You know you're extraverted and use iNtuiting and Thinking, but you gotta figure out the orientation of both. It might help to think about which do you naturally prefer to do first - take in more information (ENTP), or make a decision and work towards it (ENTJ).
      If you want to take a test, you might get good results from Dario Nardi's @ www.keys2cognition.com/explore.htm
