So tragic how people were to leave their home, both here and all along The Appalachian Trail. It's good to know that there is at least one person trying to keep their story alive. Keep up the work and thank you again for taking us along on your amazing adventures.
All those families were bought out. Many cemeteries were relocated by the national park services administration. These two graves could be relocated if the families were interested enough to request it.
I know they were compensated, but come on, we're talking about the Federal Government here. Plus, those farms had probably been in their families for generations.
Glad to see you back, I missed you and your videos. Take care walking through the forest, been reading and looking at grizzly bear attacks, horrified me. Take care and be safe, from an old grandma and great grandma from Canada
It is sad the family had to leave their loved ones behind. Because the carvings on the headstone were so crude....The carving that you said looked like a kite could be an Angel ascending to Heaven.
I lived in SW Georgia for decades before moving to the North Carolina mountains. I love your videos, they remind me of my former home. I’m thrilled now to see you exploring my beautiful mountains! Merry Christmas 🎄
That looks a nice place to spend eternity to me - peaceful, beautiful, nothing to disturb your rest. And, unlike a couple of these places that I know over here in Britain, still looked after and kept tidy.
I sure hope this remote cemetery stays hidden so these pieces of sad history aren't vandalized. I love your videos. Thank you for all of your hard work. I am trying to learn more about my ancestors who came from Georgia a good 200+ years ago.
I know it's very Sad that sometimes these little Cemetery's get lost in history. Sometimes Parents refuse to talk about a Child who has died and so they aren't known by the others or even where they are buried an sometimes it happens with others too. Like I've learned alot from you.
Gorgeous area to visit with an interesting history before they were moved out. You can actually camp in the area. Family is allowed to come back for a reunion once a year and if I remember correctly it’s Memorial Day. They reintroduced elk in the valley and you can actually go in the valley and see them. The car ride to the valley is a single lane gravel road without guard rails.
Most of my dad's family came from the mountains of NC, mostly down near Murphy (this is a bit far north). There's still a road named after one branch of the family although the farmstead is long gone.
Awesome find. We have been through the park, but it's been more than 40 years I think. I know as a kid and teenager my parents took us on Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway back in the 70s, probably more than once. But we never did what you are doing. That's cool. Up here, I and a friend found two or three marked pet graves in the back country in the northern part of Wharton State Forest, here in NJ. This was several years ago. I doubt I could ever find them again. I live just south of the Forest.
I thought I saw Bleu sitting by those headstones in ur last vid or at least one recent vid u posted. Was just a quick glimpse at the end of him sitting beside them. Am I seeing things Robbie? Lol Good to see u out expanding ur horizons. Luv that. That is definitely a gorgeous area. Btw: Aaron - Georgia is not all flat as u said in I think ur last vid. North Georgia has some gorgeous mountainous areas. Yes as you travel more south .. the lay of the land does flatten out. Anyway Robbie .. watch out for critters looking for food up there. Surely you have protection on hand. Y'all b safe & well.
We lived in Knoxville, TN is the early 80's and at that time one of the Rangers said that a lot of the folks who lived there when it became a park were allowed to stay for the rest of their lives or until they moved. They we all gone by the time we visited. There was one place where a cabin was but it was being allowed to go back to nature. Loved the Smokies they are beautiful, gorgeous around Oct with the fall colors.
Look up Mike Maples or tnmagicmanmm on UA-cam. His knowledge of the Smokies was amazing. He could walk up to a pile of chimney rocks or other remnants and know to whom the place belonged. Unfortunately, he died of brain cancer in March 2019 at the age of 66. It was a devastating loss to the hiking community and all his friends. The audio and video is sometimes not the best, but his love of the Smokies always shines through. I always think of you when I watch his videos; you remind me of each other in your love of history. Take care!
Yes. Mike Maples was the most informed Smokies historian ever. He had both a personal and professional in depth knowledge of the Gatlinburg/Cades Cove areas especially.
Being a GSMNP 900 mile map hiker/backpacker, I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos.... I love knowing the history behind the areas I hike. Man.... I have to get back to the Smoky Mountains. JBENHIKES
Enjoyed that little trip. Sad they are there but what a beautiful place to be resting for eternity. Thanks for sharing. Hope you find your way back down too. Merry Christmas, Robert to you and your family.
It’s so sad that the history n stops right there. Your so right when it ended in 1930tys. And you do wonder if anyone comes to this small child’s grave site or is it just those who travel the paths. ♥️♥️♥️♥️😊👍🌟🎄
Always love the Smokey mountains, you see any of the Elk in Cataloochee valley? If you have never been I highly recommend Cades cove, several cemeteries there as well as old home sites. The Pearl Harbor tree is awesome there as well.
I think there is another Lawson cemetary near Cades cove. I love the smokies and cades cove. A lot of history there and some hidden cemeteries. Good to see you.
What's the evidence it was densely populated? People live all throughout national parks and forests still today. I trust your judgment that some of the st9nes are children but a lot of graves of adults have small stones as it's what they could find to place at head.
@@shawnoandrewit’s not the headstone size, it’s the length of the head and foot stone that gives evidence that it is the burial of a child. As far as evidence that it was densely populated, that’s just factual history. In fact we take a look at some more of that on an upcoming video.
@@helenarubio3371that is true. I am very grateful for the National Parks and the preservation of a few of the homes, churches, etc from when it was lived on.
Hope you are ok! Been missing your videos! I wonder about the children buried there, what their names were, how they died... Wish there was a way to fill in those blanks
That's sad on any place where a national park was added they forced people out. They're probably graveyards in every state where people were forced to leave.
I once found a cemetery in that region taking tiny little back roads, it was really unmaintained with atleast 50-100 graves. Very few were actual "boughten" monuments, nothing newer than about 75 yrs old but what amazed me was the majority were simply rocks or home made (hand carved) out of rocks! It spoke volumes......
There are many gravesites here in the Appalachians that are far off the "beaten path" so to speak. I'll try and get some pics with my phone in a few days, and I'll post them here. Many Civil War soldiers buried near my place.
I wonder if the State ever took the time to look for toppled/buried headstones in this cemetery, or any others in the park boundaries. Most likely a budgetary issue.
Plemmons cemetery in the Greenbrier section of the park is interesting with the real old graves. Several Revolutionary War soldiers buried there I believe. (I know of 1 for sure)
For too long, no one knows the kids graves until you finds it. We, the people continue with out lives knowing those graves till we die and those graves forgotten again.

My husband was adopted by a Jenkins in 1947. They named him Jack Lawson Jenkins. I was intrigued to hear you say those two names together.

Thanks, finally got a vacation in. Thankfully no grizzly’s here - just black bear.
Thanks so much for sharing. So sad these children are all alone and most probably forgotten 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The family could have had them moved when they relocated. Maybe they chose not to. Or all the descendants were deceased.
probably all the relatives of the ones buried there died in that vicinity too
Nan from Florida:❤️❤️Thank you!! Love your videos!!! I wouldn’t be able to get there; disabled. So you made my day!!! Nan🎄🎄
Being a family historian, I love your videos! History is beautiful!
It is sad the family had to leave their loved ones behind. Because the carvings on the headstone were so crude....The carving that you said looked like a kite could be an Angel ascending to Heaven.
There is tons of history all along the blue ridge mountains in Tennessee. N.C. and Va.
I lived in SW Georgia for decades before moving to the North Carolina mountains. I love your videos, they remind me of my former home. I’m thrilled now to see you exploring my beautiful mountains! Merry Christmas 🎄
Thank you! And Merry Christmas
I live in SW Georgia. 😊
Maybe someone watching will be related to these children and has been wondering about where their graves are. Thank you for the video and be careful!
Park Service records list all registered graves in the nation park acquisitions.
Welcome to Our Mountains Mr. Robert.
I've been missing you but glad you took some time off... Merry Christmas to you and your family
That looks a nice place to spend eternity to me - peaceful, beautiful, nothing to disturb your rest. And, unlike a couple of these places that I know over here in Britain, still looked after and kept tidy.
I had a feeling you were taking some time off. Good for you, & good for us too.
Indeed! It was the first time I’d been away or vacationing in 2 years
It's so good to see you again. This is another sad cemetery. The families left and perhaps never came back. Poor little children.
Great video Robert 👍. So happy you were able to get a vacation in. You should probably do it more often.
Another wonderful video. It’s very sad that those buried there have been “left behind”.
I truly enjoy your cemetery walks. I used to do the same thing back in day.
It's nice that you made it up to the mountain and I am sure that you are visiting Aaron and family. Take care and watching for videos 🙂❤️
Love your videos and enjoy watching them every time they come on. May the Lord bless and protect you
I hope the little cemetery has visitors..ty for sharing it with us.
Another amazing video. Glad you are taking some for yourself. Love from Australia. Stay safe. Xxxx

Wow...soooo glad you got some vacation time in!! Was wondering where u went. Can't believe my precious Grandma was born back in that time...1905.

Great To See You Robert, and I Was Worried About You. I Miss Your Videos
Beautiful park so sad the people had to leave I can see why they settled there
There should be a fence around those grave stones
That is a beautiful area. I lived in NC for awhile. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing a very important part of history. I hope it will not be forgotten.
Just back from snowy hike w/ the dogs. Loved your hike and ours! Thanks for sharing, Robert!

One family did…the Walker sisters but they were not allowed to make money off the land. They could only stay in their cabin until they passed on.

There are at least 150 known cemeteries within the park boundaries.
Yes, I would like to go back and see more of them

No! The elk must’ve been in Cherokee when I went. I’ve been to Cades Cove, but I need to go back!

Glad you got to go explore the mountains. This was interesting and sad at the same time. So did you see bigfoot 😆 Have a Merry Christmas 🎅
No Bigfoot this time! 😅
Sad that families were uprooted by a government that claimed to care about them.

if the government hadn't, we wouldn't have any National Parks. The land would have subdivisions on it and the natural wilderness lost.

Welcome to NC! See on map Palmer Cemetery & Teague Cemetery sort of in vicinity. Be safe!
It just feels so sad to see those little graves, all lost in the woods.
when I go just throw me overboard...
Great find 😎
I'm just glad that the forestry at least cleared the trees
Fireman 🔥🔥🔥
There is two old cemeteries at Big Ridge State Park in TN.
Being a forester we use the app landglide or app hunt maps maybe useful for you
Too bad the park wouldn't designate a historical plaque. Thanks for sharing over the www!
These numerous remote family cemeteries are graciously catalogued and maintained by the National Park Service.
Thanks buddy…

Babies, what a place to be buried. Thanks for documenting it 🥺
Some states, like WV, have to provide access, even if it's private land.
Sure been missing the videos on both channels..
You missed the markings on the second headstone. If you had your flash lite you would have seen the wording. So sad.
There are many gravesites here in the Appalachians that are far off the "beaten path" so to speak. I'll try and get some pics with my phone in a few days, and I'll post them here. Many Civil War soldiers buried near my place.
The foot stone looks like angel wings.
We’re families moved because the government wanted to have a park? Thanks for the video

Love it!
Plemmons cemetery in the Greenbrier section of the park is interesting with the real old graves. Several Revolutionary War soldiers buried there I believe. (I know of 1 for sure)
Sad children are left alone in cemetery. The kite drawing may have been the child's favorite thing or a hoped for toy.
The park could at least put up a plaque acknowledging the cemetery. There probably are more people buried there.
My cousins the John Oliver family were moved out of Cades Cove….
I find it so sad that these cemeteries are in the ar way that they are
Dude, you better be careful clomping around up there...
What is cemetery name?
See Description and also 1:10 in video.
Should find out who owned that plot of land in the 1900's
When I see stuff like this it reminds me of the truth of the matter we are nothing to the federal government we are just numbers to them.
I love Cataloochee go ever Year in the fall
For too long, no one knows the kids graves until you finds it. We, the people continue with out lives knowing those graves till we die and those graves forgotten again.

Landscape in NC definitely isn't flat like in Georgia.
The whispers
