This is extremely clever. I had a ton of those exact same interlocking floor mats, PVC is plenty cheap, and those circle velcro straps are like $11 for 100. I've been looking around like crazy for a good modular solution for a Mini-B / Mini-Z (fingers crossed for Christmas lol) track and you absolutely nailed it.
You should give it a try! However look for other builds which use foam for barriers, I would do it that way if I were to do it again. Would be cheaper too!
Great idea man , the cool thing is how easy it is to customize your setup , just got 2 of these for my kids and I so we will be doing something similar , great video .
Really easy to make with materials from Bunnings. Instead of using PVC, you can cut up the foam tiles and screw/glue those down as barriers which would bring the cost down.
I have something similar. I bought adhesive neoprene on amazon and cut it down to match the thickness of the pvc pipe all the way along the pipes to prevent any damage to my cars. It will allow you to have piece of mind as well down the straight aways!
@@jarvzRC yes it’s been working well and definitely improved my driving. I really like your track design and how you painted certain areas. The money you saved on a track can go to upgrade parts! Keep up the great content!
Nice... i made my own track also from foam tile like that... but i cut the foam instead of using pipe, so it will protect your car... and you know what, the pattern track is similar like yours... yes the joint is not flat, you can use tape on the joint to make it little bit smoother...
Very nice! I've seen photos of tracks made using cut up foam for the barriers and I think I prefer that over the PVC pipes. I'm considering updating my track and changing the barriers to foam in the future.
Hey guys....just about to do this myself, fantastic idea. I didn't quite get what you meant by cutting the foam? I like the pipe because you have a barrier /outline .... But you can do this with the foam? I can't quite visualize in my head what you mean. I'm probably being stupid :)
@@D1ARBO it means... i cut the mat, and make it as separator of lane... it’s good for the car in case there’s collision/crash to the separator, it act as dampener
This is great. I work in a large science museum, maker studio and I want to start an RC program. I’m going to follow your lead here and build a track like this. Question, when the tiles are pieced together, do the pvc pipes also snap together (with couplers) or are they just lined up side by side (no coupling)? Definitely the budget option here. Thanks.
I used PVC junction boxes. If I were to do it again, I would use cut up pieces of foam tiles to use as barriers because the PVC is too hard on the Mini-Z bodies
Are the mini Z's anything like the old X-mods? I still have my 68 firebird X-mod. Im going to do a complete rebuild with the best motor gears all wheel. The bestsuspension and controll arm with steep angle for drifting. Any plastic parts i can replace i will. I loved playing with my X-mod. It was a lot of fun. Cant wait to hoon with it again
Thanks! The rear T-Plate plays an important role in the Mini'z's handling. Without the correct T-Plate, your rear won't have good traction and your car will be difficult to drive. The T-Plate has two functions: - It is meant to absorb bumps - It is meant to transfer weight forward, backward and side to side I haven't done enough testing yet on my cars yet to find out which T-Plate works best for me. The stock plastic T-Plate is fine if you're just starting out.
It looks like you have got the same EVA-foam tiles as i bought frequent. Mine are 40cm square and i read about it that’s only available in 40cm2 and 60cm2 type of tiles. They’re 1cm thick so an underfloor will improve the flatness of the whole track with better equals of the seems. Mini-Z has a plastic t-bar for each new bought cars and rtr sets. Please keep in mind the 4 differences of motor mounting is separated in two types of t-bars. The HM and RM (high mount short chassis 86-90mm wheelbase and rear mount old standards for mini-z 94mm chassis wheelbase. They’ve got the same t-bar wich is ever so slightly longer than the MM and LM chassis wheelbases at 98mm and for Low Mount-LeMans 102mm wheelbase chassis) HM/RM at rcp track needs a carbon t-bar stage 6 upgrade, only my experience with this less grip providing EVA-foam track you’ll have to test your own setups with different types of upgraded carbon t-plates/t-bar (same, in the Netherlands we call it a t-bar, other languages use the t-plate term. You can buy the upgrade from different manufacturers and the ones that Kyosho, Atomic and PN Racing makes are almost similar in costs. The third-party manufactures with Atomic and PN are much easier to get and go as thin as stage 2 (buy whatever you prefer of course, the set of 3x t-plate upgrades from kyosho are stage 5/6&7 in one blister package) for the most part grip comes with different sizes of rims & tyres plus t-plates. And type of chassis with motor positioning, bodykit, damping and many more possibilities. T-plate PN stage 4 works fine for me. T-plate 5 from 3-Racing also works fine. Atomic fiberglas t-plate 3 is really good for me. Keep in mind that this is incredible personally and that you can experience different results from the same material. Greets and good luck. Keep fun is the key
Wow, that's genius! How much did all that cost? Would love to set one up in my garage, but not paying the hefty price tag of the pre-fabricated tracks. I've subscribed, looking forward to more videos!
Thanks for subscribing! I made 2x Wide-L style tracks. Each wide L cost about $200 AUD all up. You can half the price by using the foam edges that come with the foam tiles as your barriers instead of using the PVC pipes.
Thanks for watching! Mine are 50cmx50cm and I think they are the perfect size. I recommend 50cm minimum unless you're really limited on space in which case I'd consider 30cmx30cm.
Not sure what brand they are but they're from my local hardware store bunnings and have a textured side and a smooth side. If you're in the USA, I've heard foam tiles from Harbor Freight are pretty good.
Thank you for the build! Ive got my own now for a fraction of the rcp track!

Most amazing DIY track build, love your videos, very informative
Thanks for watching! Glad you love them!
That looks like the perfect size track for Mini-Z's. So many prebuilts just seem too small.
Thanks! Yeah it’s the right size for Mini-Z’s I think! On smaller tracks you can’t really get up to top speed
Good on you being so cost effective. I’d like to something similar.
It's a great idea. The MINI-Z that runs on the course seems to be very interesting.
Thank you!
You're a legend mate! 👏👍

Hi that is cool. It look better than the real truck 👍😱
You make me wanna get my hands on a Mini-Z!!! Looks fun!
You should get one!
Thank you for sharing such an excellent job, I have been surprised at how well track

Yes having a modular track makes it really good! It can be done cheaper by using the foam tile edges instead of PVC.
So cool...great job! Cheers

Great Track and cool Video.

This is super great work.
Great video! Good to get the inspiration flowing ;)

Hi, great video. Can you tell me the tiles size? Thanks from italy

I made 2x Wide-L style tracks. Each wide L cost about $200 AUD all up. You should be able to make it cheaper I think.

Nice looking track. What did you use for the inside corners? Looks like soup cans.

Yes they worked great!
Whats the overall size of the track? Me and my son are really interested in making one in our garage
would you be able to drift on that type of surface, thinking of making something similary for my mini drift cars
You can but it's not the best for drifting, still a bit too much grip

What are those round hockey puck like fittings?
They are PVC conduit junction boxes from my local hardware store

Which exact foam tiles did you use?
EVA foam mats from Bunnings Hardware Store
What is the square footage?
What brand foam tile are you using ? Most the ones you find are textured and not smooth like these?

Could you drift on these foam pads? Just getting into this
I find that these tiles have too much grip for drifting.
Will a 1:10 scale rc car drive good on these tile pieces? Love the track and looking forward to build something similar if it works!
1:10 is a bit big for a track this size! Might be able to do it with a wider track length.

I've read that people in USA use foam tiles from Harbor Freight. Hope that helps!
Can it fit 1:24 scale?
Got a question for you. At 0.25, you have layout images of tracks. Where do you get the track builder application from?
That screenshot is from Salt Lake Mini-Z club’s website. There is a free track designer application you can use called ZRound Track Designer
How have you done curbs?
Curbs are all PVC pipes and PVC connectors. Also PVC junction box for the turning points.
Will it drift on this surface?
You can get a Mini-Z to drift however the track still has too much traction
Is this surface good for drifting?
This surface is similar to RCP track, check this video about drifting on them: ua-cam.com/video/sXhGvpN_clA/v-deo.html
hey bro how will a mini z cost if it is imported from hong kong to austerlia
Costs around $320 AUD for an MR-03 RWD.. Theres a few Australian stores that sell them and it can be cheaper getting from them ~ $260 AUD
