  • Today I will teach you how to clean the inside of your portable air conditioner to make it cool down a room faster, use less electricity, last longer, and remove any musty smells it may have. I will take you step by step through the easy removal of the outer casing to give you access to the coils inside so you can clean them off. The manufacturers try to make it difficult but I make it easy. Save the planet by using less electricity and extending the life of your AC before it needs to visit a landfill.
The model we worked on today is LP1010SNR

what I wanted. At 67 I fix my own vintage sewing machines and little vaccumms etc. More so by maintainance and replacing parts available. Not wiring etc. I know better than to try to fix something too old or warn but not going to call someone to clean dust from inside. Our LG works. I cleaned removable filter but I see the other "vents" have dust on it. Just want to see someone do it so Im not breaking it. Mine had less screws too. It keeps shutting off but works intermitently. We also have a 4 times different kind of dust area. Thanks for showing this!

Thank you for this video. My LG unit would work then keep shutting off the compressor. It was very dirty.. After cleaning it stays on now and works perfectly.

My has a bad smell, when i turn it on. Can it be because of the dirty filters? Or do i need to do other kind of maintenance

Dirty filters may cause a bad smell. Vacuum off the coils as I did in this video and the smell may go away. If smell comes back then stay with a coil safe cleaner. Thanks for watching. Hope this helps. Please like and subscribe

Mine has a bunch of thick dark gray crude all under and around the coil. I cleaned it all out when I replaced the blower wheel

I have an 8000 btu LG portable AC unit that has a dehumidifier built into it as well. Some of the fan blades have broken and the fan wobbles and make a bad noise. I quit running it because I didn't want to wear out the motor.
My question is how do I get the fan out and the new one in? It's the fan up top the one that blows the cold air out of the unit. The hole the motor mounts in isn't big enough for the fan to come out and the hole where the fan pulls the cool air through the coil isn't big enough. Also the styrofoam enclosure doesn't have any seams that I can see where it might come apart. The top left is open but the right side is part of the styrofoam enclosure. I haven't looked close yet but the small section on the top right may be removable I'm not sure. I can't find and videos on changing this fan all the ones I find are changing the condenser fan.
Any info you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

@@BillOfAllTrades2016 thanks for responding anyway. If there's one thing I've figured out about these things is everytime you take one thing off to get to something you have to keep taking things off. I have mine standing here in front of me looking like a half naked 2 ft tall robot lol.
I have figured out how to do it though. I found out the styrofoam enclosure isn't closed off. It's pressed up against the back of the coil so tight it only looks like one piece when really the part toward the coil is open all the way across. However the styrofoam piece goes into a tight fitting section across the bottom. So the enclosure has to be pulled up and backwards at the same time without breaking the styrofoam. It's really tricky and will be more fun reassembling.
I'm hoping it's just the blower fan and not a bent shaft in the motor.
There is no video on the internet that covers this. LG has one on it but they stop short of changing the fan and leave a number for you to call.

@@BillOfAllTrades2016 I finally got it taken apart. In order to get the styrofoam piece out you need to remove the coil mounting screws. A one inch lip on the bottom of the styrofoam actually slides underneath the coil. The only way to get it out is to remove all the screws (which was only 2 left by this time). After that you have to gently lift the coil up and turn it counted clockwise as you twist the styrofoam out from underneath it and there's not much slack in the lines from the compressor to the coil.
I let someone borrow mine for 2 years I'm not sure if it was him or who but someone has been in it before. The nut that holds the fan on was loose and it wore some of the plastic out on the backside and looking at it I can it's happened before and someone used jb weld to repair the worm out part on the back of the fan. So off to the store to buy some JB weld and fix it like they did except I'll use blue loctite to keep the nut from coming loose again.

have confidence and stay focused all the way throughout the task.
begin disassembly of the entire unit in a clean and organized environment. make note of what goes where and lay out the pieces in a line in the order they get removed.
by doing this you will eventually gain access to that fan assembly and be able to remove /replace it.
reassemble by following the reverse order of whatever you took off. its easy and you learn quite a bit through the process.
as a kid i used to disassemble all kinds of things ato help my dad separate metals for the scrap yard. the more i took apart the more i would notice about the appliances and how similar they all are. if it is mass produced, you can disassemble it and reassemble it with no harm done as long as you are observant and gentle. if you have to put too much force on something, take a step back and reevaluate another possible way to get at it.
you can do it, roll up your sleeves and give it a shot.

Do you know where to get parts? I am missing the part that slides onto the back to connect the hose. Mine looks just like yours.

You can buy some on Amazon. Search for portable ac vent kit or vent adapter. You will have to measure the area where the hose attaches to make sure it’s the correct size. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe

Was there a fishy smell from it being too dusty?

    • @BillOfAllTrades2016
      @BillOfAllTrades2016  11 місяців тому +1

There was no smell in this one. I’ve had fishy smell before on other units because the dust and dirt stays damp and grows bacteria. Cleaning it off and spraying it with coil safe cleaner gets rid of the smell. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe
