Heard these at Canjam Chicago 2023. My favorite headphone of the show along with the Susvara and ZMF atrium. Absolutely beautiful tuning and so comfortable as well.
Excellent and articulate review about the HE 1000 stealth. Appreciate your clarity and personal reference regarding strengths and weaknesses of comparative listening. The video length is spot-on and to the point. Your video script is easy to follow and opening and closing segments are great. thank you!
No nonsense, no fluff. Sharp, to the point, yet detailed and very well articulate. Incredible review my man. Now that these are $1399, the price is a lot more palatable, yet still very high! I agree - these could definitely pass for endgame if the hifiman sound is your cup of tea. I own these and the clear for their opposite characteristics. If I may ask, what type of sound signature do you prefer? And what’s your favourite headphone?
Very good and articulate review. I like how you described the difference between Focal Clear/Utopia and HE1000 Stealth in terms of smaller stage but more direct punch vs bigger stage but a softer presentation. I'd add to this that if one wants the best of both worlds, it's really worth spending a bit more and getting the HE1000se which sounds much more natural and less "artificial" (especially stage-wise) than the HE1000 Stealth.
@@HeadphonePH Yeah, I think different people perceive these things differently - to me the HEKse has an elevated treble and air region as a whole which is not that difficult to get used to (but can sound a bit splashy and "off" at times) whereas the Stealth has more like peaks at particular frequencies which are only sometimes annoying. The overall tuning of the Stealth is lovely, though. The HEKse is more "direct" but the Stealth's spatial presentation can be really addictive. Have you heard the Susvara?
Hi, Good work. I use edition xs. I like it in every aspect except that I want a better bass punch and forward soundstage/ imaging compared to Xs. If I upgrade from Edition xs to he1000 stealth, Will It be my endgame headphones? ($2000 is max that I can spend by the way).
@@HeadphonePH from XS, I upgraded to He100SE. I didn't feel it as a huge upgrade over xs. Infact, Xs has punchier bass and sharp imaging than Hekse. Hekse is 8times the price of Xs. Yet the overall improvement is just 30%.
@@gamingandmusic9217 Oh sorry to hear that. I mean 30% is huge IMHO. It's just the law of diminishing returns. I'd be curious what your DAC and amp is cause for me it's substantial enough to notice. Guess this is what's fun about this hobby is that mileage may vary. Still, I appreciate you sharing your feedback here.
Thank you for this video. Could you please share your suggestions of amp to get the best of this headphone (in 3 different price ranges ) ? Thank you :)
Didn't actually have much time with the pairing relative to others but I thought it was good.. I'd put it along the same boat as the Luxman P1u with maybe a bit better bass dynamics & tightness.
Hello, I haven't really tried that many wireless over-ear headphones in the last couple of years so I may not give an accurate answer. If it's noise-canceling, the best I've tried is the Airpods Max siguro. If non-noise canceling, the Focal Bathys and Audeze Mobius siguro, sound-wise.
They're very different. Soundstage, HD800s is wider and deeper, HE1000 Stealth 'taller'. Tuning, the HE1000 is definitely more rich and warm sounding. HD800s is on the thinner, brighter side. I would pick the HE1000 in a heartbeat if I don't have to EQ and have modest source and amp. However an eq'd HD800s is pretty great too!
@@HeadphonePH thanks, i currently have the Focal clear and DT990 pro, i understand the focal clear soundstage isn’t wide which is a problem for me as i mainly want the HE1000 Stealth for gaming uses. would u say the soundstage is wide enough/ wouldn’t be able to compare it to the DT990 sound stage by any chance
@@Snxgur It's been ages since I last heard the DT990 Pro so take this with a grain of salt. I'd say the HE1000 has more or less similar depth if not slightly better. I'd say in general the Hifiman egg-shaped headphones have satisfying stage especially if coming from Focal Clear
hello! what an amazing review, from explaining all the different models to comparing them to other hifiman and even focal headphones, also every sentence felt like it gave meaningful insight, putting all that in a 12min video, clean! :) im currently planning on buying a new headphone mostly for music listening(techno, trance, edm, some fast orchestral music) at home, tried some focal ones and liked the dynamics but the soundstage was meh.. i prefer openback headphone with nice subbass and dynamics, open and wide/nice depth in soundstage, while not caring about vocals much if at all.. i had someone tell me audeze might be a better fit for my preference but idk. im kinda interested in the ananda nano/arya organic - there are some used he1000 stealth for 200 more than arya organic, did you have a chance to try any of the new ones or can suggest me any headphone for my preference? (since i never listened to hifiman or earlier ananda/arya versions) - do you think its fine to get he1000 + an amp/dac for 300usd/euro? or is it wasted on a 300 amp+dac? i dont care about the price that much i can go sundara if its better fit, but since i heard theyre pretty bass lean.. im thinking of edition xs ananda nano arya organic or he1000stealth - i just cant get another focal headphone anymore - if u have any tips or suggestions (even headphones from other brands that fit) - would be very much appreciated!:) +1 sub and excited for more reviews:)
Thanks for the nice words! Appreciate it! I sadly have not listened to the Nano or Organic yet as I don't think they're even available yet here in the Philippine so I can't comment. I was curious what's your current headphone? Asking cause people's input on how soft Hifiman's dynamic punch can vary depending on experience and preference. I'd say if you had a Hifiman egg-shaped before and you're happy with its bass then you can't go wrong with either an Arya or HE1000. You can always EQ and add subbass which in some ways helps with bass punch. An Arya or HE1000 and a good 300 amp is fine, but just make sure the character of the amp is NOT neutral or bright. Audeze is also OK. It's got soundstage that is slightly better than Focal but not nearly as good as Hifimans. But I can tell you've decided already on pursuing a Hifiman headphone which honestly is fine since it's closer to your preference.
@@HeadphonePH Never heard planars 2k$+ but those cheaper can not satisfy me due to unnatural timbre & harsh highs. Dynamics I can drive with my tube amp cleanly with gorgeous natural timbre. It's really surprising how for example my Focal Clear can change tonality just by driving it by right tubes (some morons say it has metallic timbre I say their amps sux balls)
@@soulfulfool Yeah I think if you've heard or are sensitive to unnatural timbre, the more expensive planars still exhibit it. The Focals do have metallic timbre if they are ran with a bright solid-state. Or those amps with good measurements (THX, etc.). Not all, but mostly.
If you felt that the Focals' staging was "meh" - you just may feel the same way with most Audeze HPs - as they're not known to have large or "grand" staging. For that characteristic you'd need to look in the HFM direction, IMO. I have the Ananda, the Arya Stealth (they replaced Arya v2), and now the HEKv2 Stealths. All of them were great for the genres you listen to and neither of them lacks any extremely deep and detailed bass - but they will need a li'l volume to get the dynamics of the Clears that you may be looking for. OTOH, the HEKv2 Stealths have just about everything to the "Max" level in one HP as any reasonable audio enthusiast could ask for IMO.....
Great video. Hifiman's entire series of headphones are completing the conversion of the stealth version. I think this is related to copyright protection. I believe that hifiman has applied for a patent for the stealth magnet, which can combat plagiarism. The difference between the stealth version and the non-stealth version of the earphones is passive, not the result of active tuning. In fact, I heard that hifiman once engaged in a small headphone brand to copy their headphones, and won the lawsuit.
