With my garden tomatoes, I can tomato soup, spaghetti sauce with meat and without, pizza sauce, bruchetta, chicken with tomato sauce, and ketchup. I LOVE canning and using so much from my garden!
Living in Hawaii I had a couple volunteer tomato plants grow from my septic tank that clogged and overflowed once. 😂Seriously, someone pooped out tomato seeds and plants grew. And yep…. I ate the tomatoes! 😆
Canning is so easy! My mom always helped me and i was scared to do it alone but I found that its really nothing to be scared of. I have already canned ground beef, pork, chicken, my spaghetti, ketchup THAT THE KIDS LOVE. I save my tomatoes in the deep freezer until im ready to start canning, because when you freeze your tomatoes the skin comes off so much easier. PRO TIP GET A JUICER. It spits out the seeds and skins.. job done for you ❤️
I'm in Germany and I grow my tomatoes in the middle of a big town on my balcony, and they started also extremely late to ripen too. I think the weather here was not perfect and i was a bit late to put them on my balcony, it was a very rainy summer or soooo hot! But I am so pumped to grow new ones! I would say you inspired me to "just do want you want" in the garden. Thank you!
Please tell me you watch Garden Answer. Between you guys, Laura and Aaron, and Roots & Refuge, y'all make me want to sell our house to get out of the suburbs and grow all the things. I love living vicariously through all of you!
I always pick pretty green tomatoes so they will ripen in my kitchen. Id love a video on canning. I wish we lived close and could be friends in real life. You bring such joy to me
Nice garden. It’s good to know that veggies (or at least some of them) self populate. I have a small space and and I’m trying to fit in what I can. Sounds like the investment is up front and then it’s maintenance from there on out.
Do you like Pesto? I love making my own pesto from the basil I grow. It is super easy and I store mine in ice cube trays with aluminum foil over it. When I want some pesto I just pop out a couple cubes and it is wonderful over some freshly cooked noodles. These videos are so much fun to watch, thank you!
I’m loving this content from you! Fresh foods have been so important for our family, and gardening has truly healed my mental health. Please make more videos like this! 🥰
I absolutely loved this video!! Please upload more videos on here and tiktok Zack and Kristi :) I have some knowledge in gardening, but I didn't actually start until this year. Gardening has been the highlight of this year so far.
I agree. Tomato seeds and even skins don’t bother me at all in tomato sauce. I wouldn’t bother making it if I had to de seed. Love that you keep your volunteers. I do too. It’s always fun to find out what they are
Let me just say.. I love this channel. I love watching and listening to you talk about all the things I would like to do (but have no opportunity to). It's such wholesome content 🥰
I heard when it's warm/hot tomatoes will grow and when it's cool at night that's when they ripen. Who knows if it's true, but it's been true for me in WI so far :D
ispy some cutie pumpkins in your patch! :D I cant wait to see what you guys do with those in the coming months! Also where did you get your harvest basket? Its beautiful and I've been wanting something similar for our garden! I love the phrase "volunteer" plants lol its such a cute name for them
Yay, thanks for another video! It’s like we took a stroll through your garden together, thanks! About the dryer part of your garden, planting plants and herbs that like a dryer environment is def a good idea. You could also look into oleo’s (I think they are called). They are essentially terra cotta pots with lids that you bury in the ground and fill with water. They will then slowly release water to the ground as needed via osmoses. So if the ground is dry, water will travel through the terra cotta into the earth. Might be an option as like drip irrigation, it’s very water efficient. See you soon! ❤
I only have 1 tomato plant and 1 pepper plant but yesterday I got what was ready off them and made some salsa 🤤 I’ve also tried to make spaghetti sauce a couple times but I don’t have that down yet lol
I’m so trying the tomato tips! I’ve never made my own sauce and would love to. Now I won’t be saying no to neighbors who are giving away their tomato harvest since I know I can freeze them. You can buy whole organic grains in bulk from Azure and then get your own mill. Also, Amaranth is pretty easy to grow and so pretty. If you didn’t want to use it as a grain it would look gorgeous in your cut flower bouquets!
Love you! See ya later! 🍅 Please keep us updated on canning. I did water bath canning one year, but there's no pressure monitor so it's not the safest way to do it... I also heard you can use your Instapot, but again no monitor. :(
Kristi I think you would like Acre Homestead, Becky grows and preserves the produce. She has some great ideas. I really enjoy this content. Take care xx x
The drip irrigation issue... make sure you have level beds to control the run off... (my late hubby and I had a farm and we had an awesome kitchen/mini market garden)
What camera and lense do you use? Do you recommend for beginners? I can’t get over the quality. I’m loving these gardening videos, Kristi. Keep them coming they bring me so much joy ☺️
You actually don't need much for wheat plant for a bag of flour. It doubles in size as you grind it. Edid: there is a channel on here called the garden answer (i think thats the name) she just showed how she grew and milled wheat and it took almost no space.
Yea my first year here doing a no dig garden and i had a good harvest i would saw. Im gonna change some things like moving the pumpkins yea didnt think it was gonna take that much space
I tried adding a link but I guess it deleted 😕 1. Use an unbaked pie crust to line a deep dish pie plate (affiliate link). You can make a pie crust from scratch or just use a store-bought one if that's easier for you, then par-bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees F. to help prevent against a soggy crust bottom once the tomatoes are added to it. 2. Slice the sliced tomatoes and sprinkle with a little salt to draw out excess juices. After 10-15 minutes of draining on paper towel, blot the tomato slices with more paper towel to remove additional moisture, then they are ready to go into the pie without creating a puddle of water at the bottom that would result in a soggy crust. 3. Alternate layers of sliced tomatoes with a mixture of chopped green onions, fresh basil leaves, and a little garlic. Some recipes call for bacon or other herbs besides basil, but I think this simple, classic approach is perfectly delicious. 4. Top with a mixture of shredded cheese and mayo. Really, you could use just about any cheese - fontina, gruyere, or colby jack would all be good - but I stuck with half mozzarella and sharp cheddar M 5. Bake for 30 minutes in a 350 degree F oven. The cheese will get all melted and start to brown on top and the crust edges should turn golden brown so you know it is done.
We try to make enough marinara sauce to last the year. We take the skins off the tomatoes, cook them then puree them. After that we add the other ingredients to make the sauced, and let it simmer all day long. The house smells like an Italian restaurant!
Yes it’s called a harvest right home freeze dryer. They are pricey but if you go in on one with multiple people or you preserve and grow lots of your own food it can definitely be worth the cost.
My dog is being euthanised today at home. We’re in agony waiting for the appointment so thanks for the distraction Kristi ♥️ me and my family are going to do a lot of gardening to distract ourselves in the coming days
I need to make that tomato recipe tonight! I just love your garden and seeing you work in it and chatting with you. Keep it up Kristi XoXo
It was just lovely spending some time with you in your kitchen garden Kristi 🥰
Wow looks like heaven, I love tomatoes they are one of my favorites things to eat 🤤
Love that you are posting more on this channel! Hope you are doing great ❤
With my garden tomatoes, I can tomato soup, spaghetti sauce with meat and without, pizza sauce, bruchetta, chicken with tomato sauce, and ketchup. I LOVE canning and using so much from my garden!
I love making stuffed tomatoes! Scooping the insides, some ricotta, breadcrumbs, seasoning, and mozz. 400 in my air fryer for 25.
I would love to see a video of y'all cooking your fav veggie recipes or sum. I watch your hello fresh ads bc it's entertaining lol
@@patrickb6775I watch their Hello Fresh ads too. The only ads I don't fast forward through. 😂
Oh dear! I need to try this and Kristi's too! Yummy!
That sounds so good! I've had them stuffed with risotto before but never ricotta. I could eat ricotta straight from the tub.

I miss picking tomatoes. I didn’t plant this year. I enjoyed watching you pick tomatoes!

OoHh that roasted tomato spread with some balsamic dressing or glaze😩😮💨
My favorite heirloom tomato is the Cherokee Purple... they are so delicious!
How much do you think it cost you to set up your garden vs how much you saved not having to buy produce? So curious
Love watching this channels videos
I'm starting a garden next year. You've given me great ideas. Thank you
These videos are so refreshing and relaxing to watch, I love them!
I heard when it's warm/hot tomatoes will grow and when it's cool at night that's when they ripen. Who knows if it's true, but it's been true for me in WI so far :D

I would have so loved to see the canning process! 😩 amazing video as always!
Yeah, the heirlooms are a pinkish faded red color. Just from my experience seeing then at markets. 😊
Yay, thanks for another video! It’s like we took a stroll through your garden together, thanks!

Very cool. It’s weird we live in Pennsylvania and our daughter had the same thing happen in her garden with her tomatoes
I only have 1 tomato plant and 1 pepper plant but yesterday I got what was ready off them and made some salsa 🤤 I’ve also tried to make spaghetti sauce a couple times but I don’t have that down yet lol
Wow @ those volunteer tomatoes. Thriving despite neglect, I love it, let's all learn!

Sits down with a fresh quesadilla and opens UA-cam
“I sure hope there’s a new sweet life video”
“GOODIE!!!!”
Kristi you should make an instructional blog/write a book on how to have a great home garden 😍😍
We had those stripes on some of the tops of our tomatoes too. We picked most of ours when they blushed because of the pests
Kristi I think you would like Acre Homestead, Becky grows and preserves the produce. She has some great ideas.

Thank you for the advice 🙏🏻 That is 100% our issue. Our whole garden is sloped currently so we might build level raised beds or try to level it more.
Hi I was wondering if you are considered getting and / or freeze drying? Love your videos ❤
What camera and lense do you use? Do you recommend for beginners? I can’t get over the quality.
I’m loving these gardening videos, Kristi. Keep them coming they bring me so much joy ☺️
I love the gardening I'm from the south so grew up doing it but I'm deadly allergic to tomatoes sadly

Awesome info and video, thank you
Can you do a video on canning please?
Yea my first year here doing a no dig garden and i had a good harvest i would saw. Im gonna change some things like moving the pumpkins yea didnt think it was gonna take that much space
Love this style of vlogging 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Have you ever made a tomato pie? I love it. At first i thought it was weird but now I'm like yessss.
Ooohhh! Do you have a recipe?
I tried adding a link but I guess it deleted 😕

@LexFerraro awwww! Oh, the pie is good hot or cold. I kinda like it cold.
Can you show more of the canning process? please!

How do you freeze dry things? Are there special home appliances you can get?
Yes it’s called a harvest right home freeze dryer. They are pricey but if you go in on one with multiple people or you preserve and grow lots of your own food it can definitely be worth the cost.
Can you make a video of what you make with all of your fruits and veggies??
Can them! Salsa! Diced tomatoes! Tomato soup! Yum!
I’ve missed y’all ❤
I’m a fan of this just hanging out video vibes.
Love this so much.
My dog is being euthanised today at home. We’re in agony waiting for the appointment so thanks for the distraction Kristi ♥️ me and my family are going to do a lot of gardening to distract ourselves in the coming days
Yeah, tomatoes aren't turning here in PA either. It's taking so long this year.
omg show me the pumpkins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I only planted zucchini and they dried up in the heat of the summer.
❤
The scarring on top of tomatoes is from lack of water.
Liziqi grows her own wheat have a look at her..
