Ditch the glue and tape and get some XFasten double side tape. Throw the metal clamps away. Tape your spoil board down, mine has never come loose. Putting the trim router in is a game changer.
WoW! I checked out Xfasten and appreciate the tip!!! Added to my list of things to buy! TY!!! I did enlarge my spoil board and ditched the clamps! Thanks for the tip and watching!
Xfasten is what I use. I’m surprised more UA-camrs aren’t talking about it. No residue, a secure hold, and not that expensive, a little goes a long ways.
@Riless42 hi is it the XFasten woodworking tape you use? I've been a few different versions of XFasten double sided tape, but I assume its the Woodworking one you use?
This
I know nothing about CNC so this really puts me at ease. Big thanks from the Gold Coast, Australia!
Awesome!! Just dive in! I did!

I am a pro at cnc programing and operating on 500k+$ machines in a shop but I dont know where to start my hobby cnc router in my basement, your videos are great!!
Thanks a lot! Appreciate that!!!
Plywood is fine to use. The problem is that you didn't use a sprial downcut bit. Most of the cheap bits out there are upcut bits and they tear out wood like crazy.
I’ve leaned quick the direction of the cut determines the tear out. Even though this was a test….. down cut would be the way to go especially on ply. Thanks for watching!!!
I’d rather blow out the bottom of the wood (the part you don’t see usually) than then top.
Thank you so, so much for making this video. It makes this beginner process so much easier and less stressful because there is SO much information out there. Your video is more helpful than you could ever know!
Super glad it helped out. More to come!!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman I am settled inwith my machine and have made several things with the bits that you recommended, but now I'm wanting to experiment with a v-pocket bit and am running into issues with jscut. I'm using jscut to convert my svg to gcode. What program do you use to do that?
@@elizabeththrockmorton9318 I would use Easel by Inventibles. It’s an online program and super easy to use!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Oh! I guess I thought that was just to replace Candle. Do you do all the steps from design to execution in Easel?
@@elizabeththrockmorton9318 i do yes. I haven’t dived into many other programs. Easel works well for me and my needs. I do pay for the pro program too. Yes it’s $24/month but I don’t have many other things I pay for monthly so it’s worth it for me.
That is really awesome! Thanks for sharing this project with us!
Absolutely!!! Many more videos using this to come! If you have any ideas…. Send them my way!

Really informative video. I’m thinking about buying this model. Thank you so much
I would recommend purchasing the Masuter 3 or 3S by FoxAlien! It’s an upgraded version.
Does this work well with acrylic sheets purposely for signage
Absolutely. You can for sure cut acrylic! Thanks for watching!
I use double sided tape all the time it's brilliant. You literally just made some.
I have to try this….

Hi! I was going to buy this off Amazon, But! would you still recommend this CNC, IN 2024! would really love your insight on this Sir!
Great video! and info👍👍👍👍
Absolutely! As a matter of fact about to do a Nema 23 motor upgrade video to the one I own!
Thanks for sharing
Newbie here, great video. I’m wondering how loud it gets.
It’s the spindle that’s loud. The stock 70w spindle literally sounds like an RC car at full speed. If you upgrade the spindle to a palm router… well… that’s a different story. Hope that helps gauge the sound a little.
Do any of the Fox Allien machines come with software? Also how loud is the rougher? What do you think is the best software? If you could only buy one machine for a beginner, what would it be?
They do provide a free software but it’s not that great. I don’t use it. I personally use Easel for all my needs. I’m not a pro in all the available software out there so I would research more for your budget and needs for sure. I absolutely love the Masuter Pro for a beginner. It’s super easy to build and really easy to operate. I would invest in the extension kit right away for a larger work area. 31x16 oppose to 16x16 (rounded up).
Nice Bucees hat!
LoL. Purchased at Bucees in Florida on I-95 Daytona!
This is a really good video, I needed a dummy video and this helped so much, so many details so very happy with this. hope you can provide some acrylic text designs, carving|engraving on acrylic tutorials step by step. You have earned a new subscriptions and like.
Awesome! Glad ya loved it! I have so many videos planned it’s not funny! LoL
I’m planning on more Project videos and less Review in the near future!
Is this machine good enough to do inlay work with small letters and numbers ? Thumbs up on the video, Thanks
Inlays are tricky things! I have done Male / Female Bow tie inlays with it but never small letters and numbers. I’m in a group called Foxalien CNC Router & Laser Machine Group where i saw a guy doing some intricate inlay work on cutting boards. Short answer is Yes. It takes some practice but I don’t see why not! And thanks for watching! 80w laser video coming in a couple weeks!
Thanks for the video! What wood would you suggest to avoid having to sand it?
Hi there! I think there’s always going to be a bit of sanding involved especially after a project is completed no matter what kind of wood you use. But to answer your question line would be the best to start with as it’s soft and easy to work with. Lowes sells nice 3/4” pine panels that’s a good place to start. Thanks for watching!!!
Hi I’ve just bought a FoxAlien CNC Router machine “Vasto XL plus Offline Controller Module, but (ITS A BIG BUT) I’ve never used a cnc in my life, all I’m looking to do at present is cut out words and small shapes for me to attaché to larger woodworking projects I’ve done as I’m not great on the scroll saw, so I’m look at what is the best computer programs for this (& yes I’m not great with computers as I’m a 59 year old driving instructor and ex fireman and truck driver so never had any computer skills. Would love to know if there is anything out there wear i can basically copy and paste into the CAD soft wear and then transfer to the USB stick straight into the offline controller and hit cut 🤔 if so what CAD soft wear do i need ? Told you total beginner.
Thank you for any good forthcoming suggestions.
Hey bud! I wish I was able to come help you in person to get you goin! I would look into Easel by Inventables to start! It’s super easy and you can export the Grbl file to a sd card for the offline controller!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Thank you
That's a pretty cool tool! I wasn't sure about it until you put it on the belt sander. It came out really clean. That was awesome!
That’s totally because of the wood I was using I believe. When I use a solid wood…. It’s perfect!!! Im good to make more videos with it and show that VERY soon so stay tuned!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman I like that belt sander too. I am adding both of those tools to my wish list! Great stuff! I can't wait to see some more videos.

You're welcome lol
LoL. Ok! TY!! Can you explain why just for my and others info. 😊
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman I know I'm late... I suggested this, so that it leaves a clean cut on top (no sanding required)
@@xyzspec82 I purchase a downcut bit and can’t wait to see the difference!!!
Can you use your own image to cut? If so do you have any videos on that?
Yes but you would need to convert it to an SVG image and then import that image to your editing software. I don’t have a full video on that process unfortunately.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Thank you
Thank you so much for the video! Are you still happy with the machine? At that price they just seem too good to be true!
I am!! I used it yesterday evening. I like the the Masuter 3 a little better though. It’s an upgraded version only they don’t have an extension kit available as of yet but it’s on the way! Thanks for watching and let me know if there are any questions!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thank you so much for your reply and information! I have checked out the Masuter 3 on their website and it’s not much money to get some great upgrades! If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have even looked at the Master 3 thank you!
Can you do 3d cutting with this machine?
100! Yes!
This video is great we have the same cnc ( two weeks ) and I have being using the trial version of easel. Question…. I During set up I see the mouser pro which option did you choose. I have been able to get a design done but it came out smaller than the size I input. I was wondering if the machine I choose might be the problem.
That weird. I’m not sure why your output would be smaller honestly. Shouldn’t have anything to do with Machine name.

hihihi can the machine works with vcarve program? greetings from Chile
It will work with VCarve! Thanks for watching!
thank yuo for the video, but im facing an issue with depth cut , it doesnt cut all the way , i configured the thickness of the material and i set the bit into top corner of stock surface
Have you made sure you Z-prove is set correctly? Also what program are you using ? Easel? You can email me or message me on FB messenger if you’d like!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman yes I have Z prob I’m using easel and tool path created from fusion 360
Can you use Vectrix with this machine?
I believe yes although I do not use it personally.
Dope video bro. Thanks for sharing, quick question , can the table hold a 1.5” piece of material or would that be too big?
Thanks so much! It can cut about 15” x 15” and easy hold 2” thick. I don’t think it could cut through 2” though only because you’d need a long bit and I don’t believe it will raise that high. But def can cut through 1” yes.
Hola.
Sounds like you’re hitting the limit switch. You have to make sure you prove the machine to the wood and in settings make sure it doesn’t retract too high otherwise it will hit the top limit switch and lock
great vid, i learned alot, im thinking about getting that fox but with the laser too, did you get the laser also?
Not yet! Tomorrow I’ll be doing a video on the Offline Controller and then soon another awesome upgrade! I plan on getting the laser as well…. I hope!!!
Great video. How long did it take to cut out the mickey head? Thanks
I havent seen anyone engrave acrylic. Can it take on that material??? whats your guess?
Yes! You need to watch your bit speeds as it will get hot and could melt the acrylic and bind up on the bit!!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thank you for your response! 👍 Learned a los from your videos. o have one more subscriber here. Have a great day!
Lol I want one to make spraypaint stencils
It could work but maybe a Cricut or Plotter would be better for that.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsmanOk I will look
If you had used a down cut bit you would have had much less tear out on plywood
Downcuts definitely are good for plywood! I don’t cut ply much but you’re def correct! Thanks for watching!!!
Is there a free program that you can run this cnc with? If so what would you recommend? Thanks in advance!!
Easel online has a free version that is good to start with. I even recommend the Pro version even if you only use for a couple months until you get things figured out. There are others out there as well but Easel is great!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thank you very much!!!
I want to buy that small router to make plastic parts. Do you think the machine could handle cutting 3mm aluminum sheets too?
You can definitely do the plastic parts but if you’re interested in metals you can probably get that done too. I would highly recommend looking into the Masuter 3s. It’s a little more money but you’ll be happy you did! amzn.to/3MgogM5
Also check on my video on Masuter 3. I’ll be review on the Masuter 3s this week and do a side by side.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thanks a lot! After watching your videos I saw others upgrading the masuter pro with linear ball bering extensions too. I will be keeping an eye for your upcoming review on the new 3S model for sure.
Amazing content! Thanks for helping!
I got my Masuter pro yesterday, building up as this is playing in the background lol keen to see how it goes
Let’s Gooooo!!! How did the build go!!
How do you find it?
Hello sir.
I want your advice.. am planning to start a business.. do you advice to use cnc router for engraving on acrylic .. example ( engraving photos.. logos.. ets)
And thnx again
100%!!! Using a CNC will drastically reduce your production time and increase quality!! I love my FoxAlien and think you would too!!! I’ll be doing a live stream next weekend building one so come by and say hello!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thnx for replying.. does the photo quality will be clear as the co2 laser or less ?
I don't know if you still read these or not, but here goes. When you decided to switch from the 1/8" to 1/16" bit to get all the detail, couldn't you have started with the 1/8" to hog out the majority and then step down to the 1/16" to finish it?
I do read these still!! LoL. Absolutely yes. I’m impatient sometimes and don’t do two bits! LoL
(Like I should!!!)
what software you cxan use with that machine?
There are a few really good software options! Vcarve, fusion360 but a really easy one is Easel by Inventables! I’m a simpleton so I opt for for Easel Pro.
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Thank you, oh by the way I'm one of your subcriber☺☺☺
@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Easel apps how much per month subscription?
Just FYI, the link for the calipers is not correct.
Wow! Dang! Thanks for letting me know! I updated the links! I’ll have to check other videos later! Thank you! 🙏
How deep can you cut with that CNC?
So you can cut as deep as the end mill is long. I have bits that are 1” long. That’s about the max I would do with this machine. You can fit media as thick as 2.5”.
Use a down cut blade.
Love me some down cut bits!
I was going to ask about this, I've just set my machine up, can't wait to start using it!
Guessing this was done with an up cut bit?
Is the cutting super loud??
So the 60w spindle is not very loud but if you add the Palm Router it’s much louder. I have a closed insulated workshop so you can barely hear it outside. I can’t speak to the 400w spindle (yet) 🤫🫢😉. stay tuned!!!
Thank you so much for this videos, new subscriber for sure and I will check out your content. Hopefully you can help me, what bits do I need to carve on concrete? Thanks in advance.
Oh wow! That’s awesome! I havnt done any carving on concrete but I would say you need diamond tip bits, very slow and shallow passes as well as keeping your concrete sprayed with water. Its will be very dusty and you wont want to breathe that in so a mask while in the shop would be a good idea too! Concrete dust in the lungs is not a good thing!
amzn.to/3v7xhlB
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman Awesome, thank you. I will give these a try.
I just bought the same cnc machine. I can not get easel to recognize it through usb connection. Did you have that problem? can you please help?
Did you twist the emergency stop bottom after setup?
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman I did not know about that little trick. I would be trying that when I get home tonight.
+@paul_hartsel24 yup! They come usually pressed in. Try that!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman it works thanks so much
@@paul_hartsel24 was that the issue??? Glad to hear your up and running either way!
Hi, how can i use my mac os with this cnc machine.
Your best starter program to use is Easel by inventables. It’s on online based program and super easy to use. The Pro version is $24/month but it’s worth it for a few months until yon get used to how the CNC works. I actually pay for it and use it for a tax right off business expense.
Have you tried laser cutting with your CnC machine?
Not yet!!! I really need to add a Laser!!!
Where do I get that board that prevents it from damaging the machine
If you’re talking about the spoil board it’s just a sheet of MDF board. I like to use 1/8” thickness so I don’t take away too much Z clearance. Any Big Box hardware store will sell it!
@@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman thanks man I appreciate it
wgat does you mean by media? I'm lost.
Mine doesnt cut all the way through the wood and it is so frusterating! Im not understanding why?
Could be a number of things. Did you set the actual thickness of wood. Use calipers to be exact in MM.
I did yes, only cutting halfway through. I will have to do some troubleshooting. Thanks for the reply!@TheCrawlspaceCraftsman
Hate to point out the obvious but double sided tape would be simpler
They do make a double sided tape but it’s $17 roll! Don’t use carpet tape… leaves a nasty sticky residue. Thanks for watching!
Seriously? 1/4 inch bit on that small spindle.. Lots fo chatter I would guess. Upgrade to the Makitka... Lot stronger, only thing is the weight and the flex.. 😉
Upgrading my FoxAlien Masuter Pro with a Harbor Freight Bauer Router!
ua-cam.com/video/gnZIx5YGIJc/v-deo.html
man that thing looks a lot smaller that i thought it would
The base has a 15.75”x15.75” cutting area. With extension kit it expands to 31”
ATTENTION: it does NOT work like any other accelerator
I stand by my comment. Don’t waste your money on accelerator. Using alcohol helps evaporate h2o causing the super glue to dry faster than without. When CNCing we use a ton of tape and glue. It doesn’t make sense for one to by $12 for 2oz of glue. I’ll keep buying my $1.49 glue and surely keep recommending my process because it works… the video showed that. Thanks for watching!
Yea pay someone monthly money for free programs. 😅😅😂😂😂
I’m not a fan of the fee but there are some pretty cool upsides to the Pro version of Easel. Only my opinion.
I could think of worse ways to spend $25 bucks (and better) LoL
so basically i have a 800 dollar paperweight, because this literally does nothing for me on how to set up or actually use my machine. i have tried multiple times to find someone on this god forsaken site to actually help me in some fashion and i get absolutely nothing. no clue on how to connect the machine / on how to move to a certain location on the board / how to start up etc... I'm going to try again this weekend on learning how to use it otherwise it goes in the trash, have other tools that can use the space this thing takes up
Let’s start with finding out what is going on? So I’m assuming you have it built? Is it powering up? Will it Home? Up down left right forward backward? Etc. Feel free to email me. TheCrawlspaceCraftsman@gmail.com or hit me up on Facebook and messenger.
How long have you had it? What software are you using. Have you tried Easel online??
AHAHHAAHAHAHH CNC WITH WELLS ? ONLY DUMPS ....
I have no clue what any of this means! 🤔
So I have to buy a computer? I run a cnc lathe for metal at work. I want to do it as a hobby at home but I have no idea what Im getting into. Any additional advice?? Please
I would highly recommend a laptop but it doesn’t have to be expensive! Also Windows over Mac but I use Mac because I’m just so used to it!
Why you spend to much time talking nothing about the product. Look that machine cost 100 box period.
