    I saw your video while doing the research around AudioFuse Studio. Got it now, been using it for a week or so, and it' amazing. Every aspect you mentioned is being tested and I really cannot complain. I play mostly acoustic guitar, got a bunch of mics and some of those are ”lazy”, so that preamp gain is incredible. Didn't need to use pad boost option once, but it's good to know it's there.
    The interface is worth every penny. Thanks for a very good video!

    I've had my eyes on this for a couple months now but ended up pre-ordered the new Arturia Minifuse 2. I'm running aum on an iPad pro into a Mackie 1202-VLZ (along with a digitech guitar bix, bluetooth receiver, and 48v mics), then routing the main out of the mackie into a focusrite 6i6 connected to Ableton. Ableton does the audio and midi routing, while the iPad is responsible for all of the sounds. I was considering this to replace the 6i6, and possibly the mixer... But now I'm not so sure I need to haha!

    I had two arturia audiofuse 8pre on the past, that i took rid off my home studio because the knobs of the preamps gain added noise when i turned them (same problem on the two and for the eight preamps), did you noticed the same problem on the studio or rev2 version ? And other question, Are the headphones amps powerful enough for a headphone like DT770 250 ? Or do you have to push the buton to the top ?
    Thanks for this video ! :)

      Hi FJ François, if you want to evaluate the recording (conversion) quality there is few numbers you might need to check.
      Our pre are offering 71 to 75db of gain with a ridiculously low EIN (-129db). EIN is the noise generated by the amplification. The lower (biggest negative number) is the better.
      Please find below our conversion (A/D) measurements. I let you compare it ;)
      Line In
      Maximum input level +24dBu
      • Frequency response 20Hz to 20kHz +/-0.01dB typical
      • Dynamic range 119dB (A-weighted)
      • THD+N @ 1kHz -112dB (A-weighted) / 0,00025%
      Instrument in
      • Maximum input level +18dBu
      • Frequency response 20Hz to 20kHz +/-0.01dB typical
      • Dynamic range 119dB (A-weighted)
      • THD+N @ 1kHz -112dB (A-weighted) / 0,00025%
      THD (the level of noise created by conversion) needs to be low. So, the biggest negative number you have, the cleaner sound you have.
      Cheers

      It honestly shouldn’t be

    • @hjvarfjell
      @hjvarfjell Рік тому +1

      No, it shouldn't be. The impression that you need Thunderbolt for speed when it comes to audio interfaces is just marketing BS. Giving the impression that a sound card gets faster because it connects using one of the Thunderbolt protocols instead of the USB 2.0 protocol. USB 2.0 is not a bottleneck. It's got plenty of bandwidth for audio. If you were to run 44 channels of 24 bit, 192 kHz sound through the USB 2.0 cable you wouldn't even use up half the bandwidth of 480 Mbps that USB 2.0 offers. That's why among others Arturia chose to use USB 2.0, instead of unnecessarily paying Intel through the nose for using their proprietary Thunderbolt standard. Thereby keeping the price of the Audiofuse down.
      Thunderbolt is also backwards compatible with USB, including 2.0. So you can hook up a USB 2.0 devices to your Thunderbolt ports. There are really fast sound cards that uses Thunderbolt, like the UA Apollo series. They are fast, not because of the Thunderbolt protocol, but because UA put effort and money into writing their own optimized drivers. Specifically tuned for their specific devices. They also have built in DSPs that can offload a lot of processing from your pc. All that comes at a cost for the customer.
      Most manufacturers who sell USB based devices use off the shelf, OEM, USB audio drivers and components. They do nothing to tune them for max efficiency with their devices. When you sell interfaces for around 200 bucks it doesn't pay. There are a few exceptions to that.
      I think Arturia's Audiofuse range have optimized drivers. They are fast, and not aimed at the lowest end market segment.

      @@rjb7569 Well not in terms of quality perse, but the lack of routing capability outside a DAW was painful, not even thru their own UC control software was there any option to route anything. So only way to have any input work was to start up a DAW. So for me who uses my audio interface as a hub for a lot of different devices, it was kind of a pita. Also it was Thunderbolt 2 which is less and less common so i knew i had to switch to USB or Thunderbolt 3 sooner or later. I order the Audiofuse Studio this week and will probably have it by early next week.Really looking forward to it!

      @@paullindqvist4560 I've been curious about that line and similar presonus devices. I've been looking at upgrading to something that can allow me to use more VSTs and monitor them live. What was your experience with latency and could you do very much processing in the box with them? Also why do you prefer usb over thunderbolt 2? Was just curious to hear from some one who has used it because some more notable reviews seem to suggest it and similar products have problems with latency.

    • @paullindqvist4560
      @paullindqvist4560 4 роки тому

      @@brikstik3442 Well there are of course benefits to TB2(and of course tb3) over USB in some user cases, I'm not being one of them, latency under 10ms is no issue for me. The Quantum2 with TB2 on Mac and in-studio one pro 4 did low latency but it lacked in a lot of other areas, like direct monitoring (like other PreSonus USB interfaces have/had) it also was a pita to use outside a DAW, no way to adjust levels for anything outside a DAW. In fact, it was useless without a computer. Quantum 2 is discontinued and its life span was quite short, most likely to TB2, and that it was overlapped by other products. The current Quantum 2626 is TB3 and more future proof, the other two quantum is TB2 and will require an adapter with new computers. They are a bit sensitive to which adapter you use, startech is recommended from PreSonus. Bottomline super-low latency is not important to me, USB is fast enough for what I do. But more importantly the AudioFuse Studio is a beast in terms of connectivity, ability to use it as a stand-alone, and simply pure quality. Compared to my Quantum 2 the AudioFuse Studio is built better, better feature set, and overall better sound quality.
      Hope that helps :-)

    But what about sound quality ???

  • @hjvarfjell
    @hjvarfjell Рік тому

    Hi. Thank you for a very good review. I found it very interesting.
    However, I noticed you connected the latency of the Audiofuse to the USB 2.0 cable. That's unfortunately a widespread misunderstanding. That you can make soundcard faster just by putting in a Thunderbolt interface is just marketing hype. It takes more than that to make it fast, and Thunderbolt isn't even a relevant factor there.
    USB 2.0 has a bandwith of 480 Mbps. That''s more than double of what you would be able to use running 44 channels of 24 bits, 192 kHZ sound through it. You can't get more water through a hose than the faucet will provide. No matter how wide the hose is.
    There are other reasons some Thunderbolt based cards are faster than others. It comes down to optimized firmware and (Windows) drivers. Something that can be achieved on USB too if the manufacturer finds it economically feasible to put effort into it. Most manufacturers don't. UA and RME does it for their Thunderbolt series. You pay a premium price for in-house driver and firmware development, plus the Intel Thunderbolt license, and the built in DSP's. It all adds up.
    Lately it seems like Arturia is making the effort too. Their latest firmware and drivers for Audiofuse are claimed to have the latency on Windows down to 3 ms for both the Audiofuse rev 2 and the other two models.

      Hi Nick, Patrice from Arturia. You're a 100% right! I would add it also depends of your needs. RME drivers are good but mostly the value is in the Total mix. Allowing to route a lot of things.
      If you need something with the same quality standard but don't need a modular soft mixer (and maybe need to spent more time on making music than managing your sound card) the Studio (or 8pre) is a decent option to consider.
      When you are choosing a sound card, there is one thing you need to check and compare : the conversion quality.
      I give you, below, our AD conversion measurements and let you compare with the competition.
      Hope it helps.
      Line In
      Maximum input level +24dBu
      Cheers

Use case hook up 3 pcs where person A hears pc 1+3 and person B hears pc 2+3, and perhaps they both hear bluetooth too, all with independent volume levels on each device? And of course real time monitoring on both mics for both people. I'm currently using a main board and a couple of submixers to do all of this right now but if I could streamline it into one device that would be great! So from what I know the input monitoring is zero latency since it doesn’t pass thru a daw (unless you monitor thru the channels in a daw to use insert effects for example)
      BT can be set to use channels 7-8 if I dont misremember so you could have those channels feed either main mix, cue 1 or cue 2.

      Well... is this a comment in good faith? Or are you simply trolling? Here’s an honest answer regardless:
      If you look at any video I make today I am much more critical than I was 3 years ago. I am more thourough in my testing, I try and explain why I like something and if there’s things I don’t like.
      What I think you are doing is mistaking a title for the content, its called judging the book by its cover. If you for example look at my Evo 4 review and compare it to any available evo 4 review i was probably the most critical of the bunch.
      Take for example my ”Amazing Minilogue FX”. Its just a eye catching title. The effects are demonstrated to give an idea what they are. And thats it. Hardly anything weird about that. Its a pretty boring video tbh, and if I wanted to shill (dunno why I would) for Sinevibes I could have been way more pushy about it.
      The more I think about it the more I just feel comments like yours are such bad faith arguments. Its like you havn’t watched the videos. Go and watch my Minilogue XD vs Minilogue, or Cycles Explained and come back telling me how I am not putting in a good amount of effort... I will be waiting.

    • @silverqumera
      @silverqumera 4 роки тому

      @@BoBeats To tell you the truth. I am being quite honest, it is just what have been feeling recently from your videos and content in general. My rant is not about the quality and effort you make, I am sure this is huge. My rant is about how lately everything is just advertisement.
      I was a fan of yours on the Circuit era and stuff. I felt your honest humble impressions back then (even at your reply here I see how humble you still are).
      But, why to use catchy clickbait-esque titles? is this to make people "mistake a title for the content"? Do you really need them in your content? I am sure you do not need this, nor the pictures of you hugging the product as if you loved it... that is really misleading. I love my Ibanez guitar, I love my Korg M3. They have been with me a lot of years and have help me in many ways... but I do not love my HX Stomp wtf it is really awesome, but it has been with me very short time....
      Why to make a video for a product at the very day of release? just to increase the hype of the new thing, hence increasing sells? are you only thinking on the companies that send you products, or are you also thinking on the viewers that feed your view count?
      If this what your viewers seem to like, then I am quite disappointed. We as a community have failed in controlling what companies tells us to buy.
      I understand you also want more views, but what the heck... I think we can do better than that.

    • @BoBeats
      @BoBeats  4 роки тому

      I appreciate the honesty, I do. I feel like you need to think your comment thru a bit more tho. I am trying to work full time making music tech videos in combination with making my own music, and doing other creative things. So obviously getting a good viewership on my videos is one of many important aspects.
      If I make ”10 Effects for Minilogue XD” and skip the more clicky title I cut my views in half. Now why would I do that? You seem to think its *just about the views themselves* but to me I see it as me gettig my content across to people. In a sea of youtube videos you have to find a strategy to doing it. Its not always about making it clicky either: its a creative craft where you simply try and make something which tells a story or stands out. My Wavestate sound demo is just the synth and it did well. Its also about keeping video thumbnails a bit consistent so people know what they are getting (a Bo video) and not be upset when its, oh! That damn Bo again 😅
      As for release day videos: same thing. Why would I not release a video early and shoot myself in the foot in the process? I get that to a small % it seems like advertisement. And it is in a sense, because all our gear videos is FREE advertisement for the companies. Regardless of when we post them. But my aim, and this should be pretty clear from the -videos themselves- is to share fun and educational videos about music tech. Some are longer and more detailed, some are more hype, some are tutorials. You get it.
      What I’d love for you to do is simply go thru my latest videos. You can just look at titles and thumbnails. What you will find is that most are not all that over the top. Some are a bit funny (my Matriarch unboxing I am particularly proud of 😂) but most are not absurdly clickbaity. Most titles are just what the video is about. Ofc I try to make them searchable and engaging, but not doing it is... yet again... shooting myself in the foot because many people including many fans won’t see the videos otherwise. Because of how youtube work and how it delivers the videos to the viewers.
      I also still wonder: what about the video you commented on was bad? The title? (It describes that the video will go over 9 great features) The thumbnail (its me and the thing...) or the content (i try to be clear that I like the AF lineup, thats me trying to be honest, and I go over what I think anout the interface). So I am kinda curious what the problem with the video (especially compared to whats out there on other channels) is problematic? And since you have this general critique its hard for me to really understand what, beside thumbnails trying to be cute (the hugging my synth thing for example) and titles sometimes being hype, what beside that is a problem?
      Note that I am not getting a lot of feedback like this. But I am honestly curious if there’s small things I could change or if its more a perception thing from your end and maybe not understanding youtube as a platform?

    Thanks for your review. My favorite portable interface right now is the RME Babyface Pro, and I do my higher track count recording with the Apogee Ensemble. I've been looking for someone to make a portable high-end interface that combines my favorite features of the above interfaces into a desktop interface, and I think Arturia's done it: 4 mic inputs, extra line inputs, line outputs that work as reamp outputs (absolutely sells it for me), 2 independent headphone channels that can power 4 headphones in a pinch. I wonder if the mic preamps/converters/DI can compare to the RME or Apogee, but at this price range, Arturia clearly believes they can compete, and I think that even at $899, it's an incredible value for what they offer. It's going to be perfect for people who want to record multiple guitarists at once.

I've narrowed my search down to Arturia Studio and Audient iD44, having recently cut RME Babyface Pro FS from my shortlist. I'm not alone, as I've come across 4 other people in forums who are also down to the same 2 finalists. Why would you choose the $129 Audient Evo 4 for comparison? It's an entry level product competing with the likes of Scarlett 2i2. Meanwhile, the same company makes the interface that is the closest thing in the market to Arturia Studio.
