I think the romance community is really particular about the requirements because a lot of literary snobs scoff at romance despite it being the backbone of the publishing industry. 😒 Also, just imagine if you are expecting a Fantasy book, but then end up reading a cozy mystery?
I actually like romances as a "palate cleanser" if you will. When I've read too much horror or murder mystery or suspense novels so I definitely look for the HEA. A walk to Remember or Me After You is definitely not the vibe I am going for when I seek Romance. I am looking for something uplighting and even if it gets dark in the book, I know the ending will be bright.
