- This week I head to the flats to hunt down a Yellow Tail Kingfish on fly. It was hard work, with not much going but I manage a couple of shots and even had two HUGE Kings try and eat my smaller King while I was in the middle of fighting it!!

WoW!!! I caught several Kingfish with "FROSTBITE ADVENTURES" out of MT. Maunganui. I can't imagine pulling them in on a fly rod. 😆 That's awesome.
It ruins you...!!
another terrific video, Kingfish are good fighters, must of been a lot of fun on the fly rod, awesome effort, would love to see more videos like this, great stuff.
Awesome bro thanks. Def plan on doing some more salt before summer goes away..
@@TrippinOnTrout awesome brother. I'll be right here waiting to watch 👍👍
I’d love to catch Kingfish I can remember Rex Hunt catching them on big poppers ever since then they have been on my bucket list Alex 🐟🎣😁
They are awesome fish aye
@@TrippinOnTrout they certainly are Alex I’d also like to catch big striped bass under the back drop of the Statue of Liberty 🐟🎣😁
Sick video. Rats is a derogatory term. Hoodlums is a great alternative. I often use Princes….
snowed again last nite. trippin" and coffee this morning! Right on!
Great video Alex what an awesome looking fish and the fight they put up
That was sick alex!
Chur bro
Yes!!! More big water fishing!!!
Great Kingfish. Looks a lot like tarpon fishing. I’ve got the same reel. Fun fun fun! Dave
Bimini is a great knot, another good one is the FG knot not as easy to tie as the Bimini but it's stronger. Love ya work as always!
Cheers man, I will check out that know too🤙
Great video looks real fun and very keen to try chasing Kingfish on a fly rod my self
nice work
Nice work mate. Bloody cool boat man. Your right about fishing, it wouldn't be fun if it was easy. Makes the good fish so much better. Keep it up
Cheers man, good on ya
Cool footage
Churr
Awesome video bro!!! Cant wait for the next one!!!! 🤙
👊🤟
Alex! Mate, you've become one of my favorite fly anglers on UA-cam. I recently just discovered your channel and it's pretty informative, straightforward and visually pleasing. I am currently based out of Germany so no saltwater fishing for me here (and if I tried, there would be a codex of laws, regulations, rules, by-laws and addenda to all of them I'd have to memorize in order to catch and kill a fish since 'catch-and-release' is not allowed here). What I do a lot of, though, is same as you: go fish for big trout. I do it mostly just across the border in France. I'd love to go try NZ someday once this zombie apocalypse runs its course and once I saved up enough money to go. The prices I'm seeing for a week of troutin' there are off the chart! Jeez. Anyway, thanks for the great content and keep it up. You'll get to 10K subs sooner than you imagine if you keep this quality up. AL
Thanks heaps for the message bro. Stoked you are enjoying my channel!! Do what you have to to get over here and fish.....you won’t be disappointed!
@@TrippinOnTrout Yeah, just got worse here for me. Now I can't even go across to France to fish! Only essential travel allowed now. I can only tie so much flies until I go nuts! 1 April is the opening day of fishing in most of Germany...if the virus doesn't have a say in that. But you never know. So, do us a a HUGE favor Alex--- upload more frequently! You have now been appointed by flyfishing gods to help your piscatorial brethren and cistern (hah!) to alleviate their misery in the only way you can at the moment. Let us live vicariously through your fishing adventures while you're still allowed.
Thanks, brother!
AL
Those kingfish make trout seem like lazy fighters 😂 really cool vid mate!
Great vid Alex!, loved the tunes at the start.
Never tried salt water fly back home, I think standing arse deep in the north Atlantic wouldn't be conducive to a fun day out!!.
Keep the vids coming mate!!
Cheers bro. No that doesn’t sound like much fun at all!!
Another cool vid bro🎣👊
They're called a firecracker for a reason.
man hellllll yeahhhhhhh that's so boss!!!! so wicked to watch!!!
Nice one man, stoked you liked it!
Def keep the salt videos coming.
Loving the variety and content! Keep it up! Let me know if you ever want to come fish Idaho, USA!
im in coeur dalene were u at?
Cheers man! I will let you know for sure!!
Awesome, definetly do some more saltwater videos if you can get time. Caught a few "rats" when I went to Oz they go like stink freaking awesome fish, those kahawai pull a bit too don't they?
Rats...? You mean Hoodlums right..?!!😉
Kahawai are super under rated I think
@@TrippinOnTrout think they class hoodlums as 1m+ over there. Regardless of the size they try to rip your arm out of the socket. Best fighting fish I've caught anyway
Nice vid man! I had few wee kingies in Oz on light soft plastics gear and they put up a good scrap, must be a f'ckin' awesome fight on the fly!
They are next level on fly mate🔥
Wicked vid Alex, I definitely need to have a crack at those kingis. Thanks for the details on your set up as well, do you also go barbless for salt water?
Yeah man, I can’t believe i forgot to mention it - YES ALWAYS BARBLESS!!!😊
Loved the vid - we need to chase some hoodlums next time we go fishing!
Can do mate. Come
Back in March...😉
Super video - shows the brute strength of the yellowtail hoodlums even at just legal size! Are you still shooting video with the E-M10?
Such cool fish man!! Running the EM 5 Mark 2 at the moment
@@TrippinOnTrout Same here - great camera with the Pro lenses to stand up to the water splashes, rain and fish slime!
Awww nuts. I need this in my life. Where do you stay up there Alex? Thinking of heading up, but probably need to sleep in the dirt to make it affordable
I usually camp at Sapphire Springs at Kati Kati mate.
Nice spot and pretty cheap
These king fish seem to be an awesome game fish to target on the fly, how come you don’t do more videos on the king fishing?
Just time and money bro...that’s all. If I had it my way I would do a heap more
Fair enough!
Nice
🤛🏻 love it
Chur bro 👊
Shot for this bro..
Chur bro🤙
As a UK fly fisher I could fish for those 'little' Kingfish every day! I'd be interested to know how long a fight lasts from hook-up to net? Only recently found your videos and I really like the edits👍🏻😎 Looking forward to the next one🍻cheers.
Thanks for watching man.
Fight times vary obviously but I fight them hard and get them in as quick
As I can, make sure I keep them in the water as much as possible to allow a strong release.
Maybe 4-5 mins from hook up to net on those fish at a guess
Trippin On Trout Five minutes, wow. A very frantic five minutes by the look of it!😎
A quick note about your Mirage LT and the squeak you're getting when the drag is tightened up. My size IV did the same after a month or two and my local Orvis shop exchanged it at the counter. What seemed to have happened was one of the spring and ball earring supports for the drag spring (there are three in a triangle formation) had moved, putting uneven pressure on the drag stack which likely caused the squeak. My new one is fine and the drag knob much smoother and with more range than half a turn. However,ma few summer trips to the salt will be the big test to see if it hold up.
Richard Gill Thabks for that bro. I wondered about that - I will look into it ASAP coz I’ve only used it a handful of times.
Good one🤙
Trippin On Trout When I took my reel back they swapped the retrieve from let to right and the reel completely seized up. Might be worth checking that at home first. Anyway, good luck, hope you get it sorted👍🏻
It’s hard on those flats, the fish pop is not what it was 5 years ago,
Yeah I know. Even in the 4 years I’ve been fishing it, it’s become much harder. Such a shame
I have to experience this in my life....
Yes you do..
Applaud your taging the fish - however chances are it will never be seen again thanks to the local netters ...
Thanks man, I know it’s a massive undertaking but you gotta start somewhere right..
Not liking you music much, others your vid are good
