  • This week I head to the flats to hunt down a Yellow Tail Kingfish on fly. It was hard work, with not much going but I manage a couple of shots and even had two HUGE Kings try and eat my smaller King while I was in the middle of fighting it!!

WoW!!! I caught several Kingfish with "FROSTBITE ADVENTURES" out of MT. Maunganui. I can't imagine pulling them in on a fly rod. 😆 That's awesome.

Alex! Mate, you've become one of my favorite fly anglers on UA-cam. I recently just discovered your channel and it's pretty informative, straightforward and visually pleasing. I am currently based out of Germany so no saltwater fishing for me here (and if I tried, there would be a codex of laws, regulations, rules, by-laws and addenda to all of them I'd have to memorize in order to catch and kill a fish since 'catch-and-release' is not allowed here). What I do a lot of, though, is same as you: go fish for big trout. I do it mostly just across the border in France. I'd love to go try NZ someday once this zombie apocalypse runs its course and once I saved up enough money to go. The prices I'm seeing for a week of troutin' there are off the chart! Jeez. Anyway, thanks for the great content and keep it up. You'll get to 10K subs sooner than you imagine if you keep this quality up. AL

@@TrippinOnTrout Yeah, just got worse here for me. Now I can't even go across to France to fish! Only essential travel allowed now. I can only tie so much flies until I go nuts! 1 April is the opening day of fishing in most of Germany...if the virus doesn't have a say in that. But you never know. So, do us a a HUGE favor Alex--- upload more frequently! You have now been appointed by flyfishing gods to help your piscatorial brethren and cistern (hah!) to alleviate their misery in the only way you can at the moment. Let us live vicariously through your fishing adventures while you're still allowed.
      Thanks, brother!

Fight times vary obviously but I fight them hard and get them in as quick
As I can, make sure I keep them in the water as much as possible to allow a strong release.
Maybe 4-5 mins from hook up to net on those fish at a guess

Trippin On Trout Five minutes, wow. A very frantic five minutes by the look of it!😎
A quick note about your Mirage LT and the squeak you're getting when the drag is tightened up. My size IV did the same after a month or two and my local Orvis shop exchanged it at the counter. What seemed to have happened was one of the spring and ball earring supports for the drag spring (there are three in a triangle formation) had moved, putting uneven pressure on the drag stack which likely caused the squeak. My new one is fine and the drag knob much smoother and with more range than half a turn. However,ma few summer trips to the salt will be the big test to see if it hold up.
