      Hi from a Kiwi!!
      In regards to the Pineapple lumps, there has been limited edition flavors that have been bought out. Currently feijoa lumps which are so good. Feijoa is a fruit that I'm pretty sure is unique to NZ. You can eat it cut in half and scooped out with a teaspoon, you can make muffins or loaf with them ( the loaf is so so good) it is an acquired taste for some who has never had it before. I love love love Whittakers creamy milk chocolate ( they make the Peanut slab). It is 10 times better than Cadbury chocolate and (sorry to say) leagues above American chocolate but that's just my opinion lol.

    At the University I used to work at in Auckland, New Zealand, actual bribery with money was a big no no. BUT.. the currency of getting favours done between departments was chocolate fish, a big favour might stretch to 3 chocolate fish. We had an unofficial box of them in the dept for such purposes.

      Handing in your PhD thesis at the University of Otago earns you a chocolate fish

    • @michaelnolan6951
      @michaelnolan6951 Рік тому

      At Canterbury University back in the day, chocolate fish were the official currency of official student social club/assassination cabal KAOS (Killing As Organised Sport.) Any club officers, from the Dictator right down through the Politburo, could be bribed for specific favours. (The amount of fish per favour was spelled out in the rule book.)
      In wider society, chocolate fish were about the cheapest individually wrapped treats available, so became the go to "thank you" for small favours. "Give that person a Chocolate Fish" was a widespread saying, indicating a person was deserving of praise and recognition.

    Thanks for posting, it was fun to watch you try our snacks. A couple of things if I may...chicken chips are best eaten in a sandwich with soft, thick white bread, real butter and as many chips as you can fit between the two slices. Whittikars is hands down the BEST chocolate in the world ;) and although people on the internet will tell you us kiwis usually put pineapple lumps in the freezer and eat them frozen, I've never done this and I've never met anybody in real life who's done it!!! (although to be fair, 'do you freeze your pineapple lumps' is not a question I ask many people).

    store the pineapple lumps in a air tight container, they last for days. We buy a mix of bags and fill the container allowing for homework treats, smaller than a full chocolate bar as bribes lol

    Moro bars are basically the NZ version of a Mars Bar - NZ had very high import taxes until the mid-1980s, so we really had very few US snack products before then, whereas Cadbury and Nestle had production plants in NZ. Cadbury in NZ is all Australian imports now (which have different recipes to the previous NZ-made products, so they're no longer as popular). Another former NZ-owned snack brand is Pascall's, is now also Australian owned (I can't remember the original NZ brand) and is another company which also changed some recipes - I think Pascall's Pineapple Lumps now are revolting, but they did used to actually taste good. The ripple style chips like the ETA chicken chips are called "chippies" in NZ English ; "crisps" - are the US Lays' style; while "chips" are US' "french fries". We do use the term "French Fries" or "Fries" but only when talking about the US style food.

    The original Pineapple lumps were made in my home town Oamaru, South Island, NZ The company was called Regina Confectionaries, has had a change of name and now is Rainbow Confectionaries. The ones you tried are made by Pascall, I prefer Rainbow (Regina) ones which are made with real pineapple juice. Kia Ora is a greeting in the Maori language.

    I am a kiwi and you got a pretty good boxed selection the first thing I'll say is you can get all of these items as individuals or as a mixture at your local corner store or as we say in New Zealand Dairy the pineapple lumps it can be soft as well but I have noticed Pascal tends to be hard to begin with and then softens up as I said a lot of these products can be bought individually. Now to my favorite apart from Pineapple lumps chicken chips try this take one packet of powdered onion soup mix a squeeze of lemon or dash of vinegar One Tin of nestlé's reduced cream mixed together in a bowl place in the fridge for half an hour to 1 hour then dip the chips into the mix and enjoy as I made my comments at the start of your video I do not know if you got L and P drink in your box, this drink is world famous in New Zealand and best served ice cold enjoy with the chip and dip mix. I will admit that being a kiwi I am biased but as I live overseas in Southeast Asia now and cannot obtain my favorite lollies and treats after 14 years I still find myself craving for all of these items I've seen a few of these reaction videos now to New Zealand treats and snacks and it just makes me homesick. Cheers bro

    A tip for opening the packets. You'll notice at the sealed end of the packet there is a serated edge. Tear the packet at right angles by placing your thumbs close together on each side of one of the low points of the packet and tear at 90 degrees. Easy when you know how.

    So glad you liked our kiwi snacks. The gooey Moro bars are my fave too, best left in the fridge for a while to firm them up a bit, even more yummy. But you'll pay with your teeth if you put the pineapple lumps in the fridge!! They put those fruitburst sweets on the table at conferences, naturally they go pretty fast and have to be topped up at breaks.

    The Snickers came AFTER the Moro bar. Or if it was made prior it wasn't available in NZ. I grew up with the Moro and then Snickers came along.
    Looking at some of the textures of your chocolate and candy. They are wrong. The change in temperature has affected it! The candy centers are not soft and chewy, they are harder than they should be.
    My family who have moved to Australia actually end up buying a extra suitcase for the trip home which is full of the kiwi snacks not easily sold over there.
