@chrisdorsey: No. This was actually written by Dave Gilmours' wife or daughter. It's more about the passage of time since attending university. Listen to the words. You might be thinking of The album "Wish you Were Here" particularly Shine on You Crazy Diamond?
I first heard pink Floyd when I was 13. The same night I smoked my 2nd joint. It was quite the night. Also it was in the 70's and I still get chills listening to them today.
When I was young, I never listened to "rock" bands because I thought drugs were necessary to appreciate them. Now, age seems to have dulled my thoughts enough to appreciate them. Thanks . This song would have been wasted in my youth, but great in my advancing age
Great reaction, Diane! Pink Floyd...what else can be said? This one of my favorite Floyd songs. Nightwish has a cover of this song that really respects the original.
Can't say why I've never listened to Pink Floyd. I really liked the opening with the bell and the piano in stereo and the acoustic guitar with the bass during the verses give you vibes. Going to need to look into more Pink Floyd songs.
I would recommend The dark side of the moon album (don't listen to them as separate songs as it's more of an experience than every song saying something specific). The wall is more psychological (again, it's a concept album that should be listened to all the way or the movie watched all at once). A momentary lapse of reason is pretty good but not their best work. Learning to fly, On the Turning away, and Sorrow are the ones you really want to look at on that one. Other good songs in my humble opinion are Shine on you crazy diamond and A great day for freedom. P.S. Wish you were here is another.
Pink Floyd legendary rock riffs with laser light shows are very enjoyable. One of the most known rock bands of all time so many good songs. Diane, Your Reactions Bring Me so much Happy Joyful Good Vibes. Thanks for sharing the Music Journey.
I've seen dozens of concerts, the best one hands down without a doubt was pink Floyd division bell tour in 1994 ,ill never forget it , there are some tribute bands and one I recommend is brit Floyd, I closed my eyes and couldn't tell the difference , very cool video Diane
I still remember a coworker spending his lunch break calling the box office over and over again until he got through and got tickets to that show. He had the biggest smile on his face.
Pink Floyd is a band that I associate most with my father. Back in 1994, I was lucky enough to see Pink Floyd live in Oslo, and my father managed to get me out of school for that concert (Division Bell tour), in return for me writing my music term paper on the band (angling the concert as "research" for my term paper). And the last concert I saw together with my father (and my sisters) was Brit Floyd at a local arena, just 2 months before he suddenly passed away. For me, Pink Floyd as a whole holds memories of my dad and his taste in music.
At 10:48 I think most do look back on their childhood with nostalgia and remember what they liked as a child. The trends of times including clothes/hair styles, music, movies, television, video games, technology. As adults a lot of people rebuy items they had as a kid or wanted to buy as a kid.
Glad you are finding a flavor of jam Diane that you enjoy. The journey is paying off. And there is still so much to explore and different flavors to taste. BOOP
I love watching the Joy in your face as you discover this music. I think the music of Pink Floyd has drawn more and more varied emotional responses from me than any other band I’ve ever listened to. I was also fortunate enough to see them in concert when I was in my late teens, although that was after the split, during the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour. I was a little too young to have experienced them live with Roger Waters.
Hi Diane and Chewie! Happy Wednesday to you both! I'm glad that you're becoming hip to Pink Floyd! My first exposure to the group was having to watch a film of theirs for my Film Appreciation class in Junior College called "The Wall." I'll say that it was very eclectic. This song you listened to and reacted to seems pretty cool. I always enjoy your insights and reactions to these types of videos. At 12:11 Pink Floyd is Definitely one of my Favorite Bands to listen too also. The music is so good its kinda like the Guitars and Instruments even Sing.
Even some of us with horrible childhoods have aspects of them we feel nostalgia for. In my case, where I grew up was absolutely fantastic for mid-teens and below. At home was awful, but in that time and place, most of my time was spent outside anyway, climbing trees and rocks, riding bikes in a 20-mile loop that included a good chunk going through the copious woods, a huge lake right across the street, and at a time before helicopter parents were a thing so we just did whatever occurred to us in the moment. And most of this was when the U.S. started finally hearing about Pink Floyd, and my older brothers were fans so I heard them, too. Yeah, I had Ummagumma on 8-track!
I didn’t have 8-track, but I had the LP. OOOH, Diane should do a video to “Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict!!”

I remember buying The Division Bell album on CD in 1996 after I got my first CD player. I have always enjoyed the song, but it gave a different message to me then vs today. Then, I saw it more as there are divisions amongst people, but hopefully in time those can be repaired. Today, I definitely see the nostalgia aspect of the song, but the message saying more that things will never get better with time, but one can still hope and try. The entire album is worth listening to, including Take It Back, Keep Talking, Wearing the inside Out, and Lost For Words.
Great reaction Diane! One of my favourite PF songs. As it was my mom's favourite, I find it hard to get through this one without tearing up since her passing in 2018. Very reflective song! I highly recommend checking the live version from the PULSE tour (you don't need to react to it - but you NEED to see/hear it!) The sound is deeper, fuller. Pink Floyd is truly a 'live' band - they excel at making their studio songs better when performing it before an audience! (might have something to do with the visuals too!) Cheers!
I have heard the song Pink Floyd High Hopes and seen the 90s concert Pulse online. This was My First time seeing the music video with You. I think the music video turned out good.
Division Bell is a strong contender for my most favourite Pink Floyd album. And despite this exact song isn't my #1 from album, it still resonates a lot with me. Not to mention beautiful official video they made for it. Pause on any random frame and it would be an awesome wallpaper, truly every frame an art. How cool is that?
Years ago I watched a documentary about PF and a journalist from the doc described PF's later music as "soundscapes." That description is the perfect fit for most of those legendary PF albums.
David Gilmour has his own YT channel, and just recently released his latest track, and as he's been doing for over 50 years, he makes it worth listening to. Floyd is one of those groups that you can listen to a particular song, but there are two or three albums you need to listen to first song to last to really appreciate their musicality.
The first time I listened to this entire album I cried at the end. This is the final track of the last studio album from Pink Floyd. The bell throughout the song symbolized the end of the band to me. The fade out of the bell at the end of the track made me break down and cry knowing that this was it.
Been a big fan of Pink Floyd since the mid 1990s, around the time The Division Bell, and this song came out. A couple of years ago I found my new favourite band, and quite a while ago they did a tribute to Pink Floyd by covering this song. I'm not normally a big fan of covers, but this version was very good. If you get a chance, check out the Nightwish version. And then fall down the very deep Nightwish rabbit hole.
I love that this actually has pronounciated clean and clear lyrics. Add the stellar music, bonuses on the lack of conflict between the two. Sad how much music can't do this.
The song seems to me a kind of new understanding of things first explored in PF's song "Time." Roger Waters wrote the earlier one, and in his youth captured the kind of dismay felt by so many as they age. Whereas David Gilmour's "The Division Bell" seems more resigned, at peace, with the disappointment that realizing time passes can bring. Really appreciate your taking time to check out these PF songs, and I look forward to more!
You would absolutely love the 1994 Pulse concert version of this song!! If you have a chance look for it....many other great songs are in that concert too. You'll love the visual effects ......the lights, lazers and more are completely put if this world....trust me You'll love this concert!!
I am sure I've heard this song before, but it felt completely new to me. There is much in my childhood I am nostalgic for, and my 20s too. 😁 Thanks for reintroducing this one to me.
Check out this version from "Live at Robert Wyatts Meltdown". David replaces the electric bass guitar with a stand up bass and adds a cello to compliment his guitar. ua-cam.com/video/lgE-FNhHy54/v-deo.html
That's a really good song, and the music does seem to flow smoothly. The church bell sounds reminded me of the clock in one of the churches in the village in the town in which I grew up that used to ring out the time of day. "One man's journey," could be everyone's journey because, even though we are wonderfully individual, deep down we are all really the same - just one basic person - jointly sharing our humanity. Enough philosophical clap trap. Great video, Diane.
Do the live Comfortably Numb, Pulse concert. They do this song as well. Watching the evolution of your face , as the song progressed , reminds me of all of us first time we listened to it. Saw Floyd 4 times starting in 73. I was 13. No adult supervision. Floyd was one of the few bands we'd "camp out" for tickets. I was fortunate to always be dead center no further back than 20th row unless it was outdoors which was the 73 Dark Side concert. Last saw The Wall in 79 (?) in Atlanta. Definitely my favorite band and I've seen most of the greats. Always a great show and awesome crowd. Give Kenny Chesney's, No Shoes No Shirt No Problems , a listen. Not relevant to this conversation. Fun summer beach song. Think you'll enjoy it. Kinda country but, here in Florida, we call it Trop-rock. Think Jimmy Buffet. Keep it up. Capt.Bob, SV ( Sailing Vessel ) 27th Chance, Tampa Fl, USA 🇺🇸
Love your dog lol!!! But this song was huge for me. I knew Pink and liked some things as a 80s 90s kid. But this song drew me in. And made me see Guitarist Gilmore live at Georgia Tech. After the show, I bought everything.
At 9:15 I like the architecture and design of the old chapels and schools. The buildings are great works of art and look good in background pictures. Sounds like an experience the weird school with the cloaks I am always interested in You stories and learning about Your journeys.
Thanks Diane! This song surprised me. I thought that I had heard almost every Pink Floyd song before. In fact my personal favourite song is ‘Comfortably Numb’ by them. But I hadn’t heard this song before. Very thought provoking. 🤔
The fact you smile during this song tells me you have not aged enough to really feel the meaning of these lyrics. One day you might hear this again and it will hit you like a ton of bricks.
Lovely reaction. Should you wish to react to an 80s sounding Pink Floyd aong, please check out "One Slip" live from their "Delicate Sound Of Thunder" tour. 🙏
The use of the bell as an instrument was cool. I did wonder if you recognized some of those places based on your facial expressions. I used to wish that I was an adult. Now I wish I was a kid again. Lol.
I understand the sentiment, but I don't think I would want to go back. Every year that goes by upsets the balance. It is no longer true that childhood is easy and adulthood is hard. Young people today are forced to deal with concepts and problems that most of us were spared. As a pastor, I'm sure you know that is how evil seeks to undermine all that is good, by attacking those who are least prepared to defend themselves against it.
@@lawrencedavis9246 very true. The ill prepared are easy prey. My early childhood was great (and I get that a lot weren't), later childhood not so great. Our culture is definitely in an upheaval.
Pink Floyd was always a terrific group, but I was always partial to their album Dark Side Of The Moon (Time was on that one). Money is another great song on that one, along with the instrumental Any Color You Like. If you're into the 80s, some great songs are Take On Me by A-Ha, Back On The Chain Gang by The Pretenders, Your Love by The Outfield, Chains Of Love by Erasure. I'm more into 70s music, and Tighter, Tighter by Alive 'N' Kickin', Hot Fun In The Summertime by Sly And The Family Stone, Rock And Roll Hoochie Coo by Rick Derringer, and Rock On by David Essex always take me back to high school in the 70s. My favorite song of all time is The Game Of Love, a collaboration with Michelle Branch and Carlos Santana. Diane, if you did ANY of these songs, you'd probably like them, and it would make my day!
At 0:54 I like Pink Floyds Psychedelic Light Shows and Giant Screen Psydelic Graphics without being on Psychedelics. The Graphics You added to the Reaction Video Rock.
A bit of info about High Hopes. First of all, most of Pink Floyd's famous songs are from the 1970s. High Hopes was from a much later time (1994). They were much older & the song is about how much "sweeter" everything was when they began, yet their ambition remained. I suggest you watch them performing it live for the first time to begin their concert in 94. Seeing them live will make you appreciate them even more. ua-cam.com/video/pDKPz6KD8fs/v-deo.html (Notice how it got less reaction than normal from the crowd because nobody knew the song...hehe...it has since become extremely popular.)
I still think you should watch Pink Floyd perform a song from the Pulse concert, if you're able. Maybe "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" or "Comfortably Numb." A feast for the eyes as well as the ears.
Ah yes, Irish Girl! Over the years, one comes to the realization that Pink Floyd's is dichotomous music. Both Yin and Yang. Ethereal and yet Corporeal at once...Sublime yet Simplistic. So glad you enjoyed it, thanks for sharing. Perhaps the reason for No glib "angel" comment from ED is that she was diggin' the tune too. Besides, there's no denying what is intuitively obvious. Hope you and Chewie are havin' a Wondǝrful Wǝᴉɍdnǝsday. I like that you're still Rockin' the Tricolour on the back wall!💚🤍🧡
It was so mellow that Chewie fell asleep. But he would also like an extra walk and treats please. I'm not sure what Chewie meant by duckies? Everyone have a wonderful day.
80s music isn't exactly a music genre but...there are new artists that are heavily inspired by the 80s sonically like The Weeknd or M83 (very synth-pop) Bat for Lashes at times has a Kate Bush thing going on and for what it's worth Tears for Fears recently released an excellent album titled "The Tipping Point." That's just a taste. Food for thought.
Reportedly there actually was a Mr. Floyd. And a Mr. Pink too! According to "The Smith Center, which is an educational institution in Las Vegas, NV, "the band’s cofounder Syd Barrett named the group after two of his favorite blues artists, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council."
In the pre-MTV era, Pink Floyd was THE band for rock visuals. They used to hire design wizards Hipgnosis for their cover art and were also the first ones to use laser shows and projections in a concert. So the video in itself is a bit Hipgnosis-like. Bear in mind however that the band's best albums are those without videoclips, the Roger Waters-led era (he left the band in the mid-Eighties). Check anything from Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here or The Wall and you'll be amazed.
I was in college when this song and album came out, and I can honestly say I remember nothing about it. I was surprised it debuted and stayed at number 1, competing against bands like AIC, Metallica, Live, etc. It's a tight song. I liked it.
SUCH a good song! But as good as the studio recording is, I think their live performance as part of the "PULSE" concert blows it away. Great choice, Diane!
Pink Floyd is not a band you listen to. You wear their music, absorb it into your soul, and it lives inside you forever.

Check out this version from "Live at Robert Wyatts Meltdown". David replaces the electric bass guitar with a stand up bass and adds a cello to compliment his guitar. ua-cam.com/video/lgE-FNhHy54/v-deo.html
Please never ever stop a solo
That's a really good song, and the music does seem to flow smoothly. The church bell sounds reminded me of the clock in one of the churches in the village in the town in which I grew up that used to ring out the time of day.
"One man's journey," could be everyone's journey because, even though we are wonderfully individual, deep down we are all really the same - just one basic person - jointly sharing our humanity.
Enough philosophical clap trap. Great video, Diane.
I like your thought process Jim! I sent you a message on Patreon
Love it! And that was you on the twitch stream, right?
@@DianeJennings Yes, it was! 😃
It is fun hanging out with you and Chewie and listen to tunes it is a lot of crac
10:06 That totally captured the essenes of 80’s music👍
That was nothing like Motley Crew or Madonna.
@@dongleason9878 yep😂
Very cool! 🛎️
Thanks for reacting to it Diane!
At 13:19 It's good to see Chewie getting Plenty of Sleep while listening to some good Music Then getting a Treat. Your a Really Good Mom to Chewie.
Nice song about reminiscing about your youth.
I still think you should watch Pink Floyd perform a song from the Pulse concert, if you're able. Maybe "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" or "Comfortably Numb." A feast for the eyes as well as the ears.
Sam is correct.
I’ve made a note of that now. Thanks!
Yay another Awesome video.
🇮🇪 wahey! 👼
Check out The Gunners Dream from Pink Floyd album "The Final Cut"
One of the best saxophone solos ever!!
3:12 I’m digging this imagery
It was so mellow that Chewie fell asleep. But he would also like an extra walk and treats please. I'm not sure what Chewie meant by duckies?
Everyone have a wonderful day.
I enjoy Pink Floyd.
i too am all about that shizz 🥁🥁🥁
80s music isn't exactly a music genre but...there are new artists that are heavily inspired by the 80s sonically like The Weeknd or M83 (very synth-pop) Bat for Lashes at times has a Kate Bush thing going on and for what it's worth Tears for Fears recently released an excellent album titled "The Tipping Point." That's just a taste. Food for thought.
Visiting Cleveland today; Cedar Point tomorrow, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Friday.
So GORGEOUS 🙏😇🥰 And Seriously GREAT Voice BTW I Love your cats Name😁😆
This song is particularly beautiful. The melody, of course...but the words are perfect......"the dawn mist glowing"...
From the same album listen to 'Marooned' best Pink Floyd solo guitar ever
Yes. you can do mindfulness. It doesn't come naturally to anyone.
I was in college when this song and album came out, and I can honestly say I remember nothing about it. I was surprised it debuted and stayed at number 1, competing against bands like AIC, Metallica, Live, etc. It's a tight song. I liked it.
Oh, is that who is also charting then? So much variety.
Such a damn masterpiece
SUCH a good song! But as good as the studio recording is, I think their live performance as part of the "PULSE" concert blows it away. Great choice, Diane!
Sam is pushing for that one too. I’ve made a note.😊 Thanks for your hard work today in the Stream.
Roger Webb’s Assignation especially with the Orion Projeckt slide show
Mindfulness means you think of your actions
Do yourself a huge favour and check out the live Pulse concert version...it will blow your mind.
