When I first saw this 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser for sale I knew it would soon be in our driveway. If you lived on the Big Island of Hawaii, you'd understand why.
The 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser 4WD has 239 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The 2010 and newer models have 259 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. However, the 2007 FJ Cruiser runs on premium unleaded (as does the 2008 and 2009) while the 2010 and newer models run on regular unleaded.
The 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser ground clearance is 9.6 inches.

I have a 2007 I bought new.I have put one set of brakes,one battery,tires and oil changes.Had it all over the country.Runs and drives like the day I bought it.Love it,by far the best vehicle I ever owned.

I just recently bought the exact same year and model except it is a 6 speed manual and its just an amazing truck to own...Got 190000 miles on it and runs almost like new...Incredible
The most over-engineer four wheel drive ever made just crawl underneath one and look, everything is on steroids no wonder they all last over 300 to 400 thousand miles

Hows the blind spots any advice?
I love my FJ, and I don’t ever plan to sell it. It’s my favourite vehicle of all time. I haven’t driven any other vehicle that feels the same. It doesn’t get great gas mileage but I do get more smiles per miles while driving it. I’d buy another one in a heartbeat.

The Fast Lane with Joe Tunney they’re a pretty amazing vehicle and very versatile. We are thinking about a second one as well😂. After owning this FJ, I really don’t like driving anything else anymore..strange but true. I have a friend that has an FJ40 that he’d sell me, it’s in very good shape, and the price is right, so I may eventually do that first. And buy a second Cruiser later on.

I bought a yellow 07 FJ two years ago and have been thrilled with it. It is a stick and has no screens, which is a big plus for me. It has no trouble in snow or mud covered trails, unplowed snow covered roads, or going across frozen lakes. It has always started in polar vortexes. I put a three inch lift on it and 33 inch tires. The back seats would probably be difficult to get booger eaters and their car seats in and out of, but if I wanted a grocery getting soccer wagon, I would have gotten a mini-van. People complain about blind spots, but use your mirrors and turn your head and it's not a problem. I plan on taking very good care of it and not replacing it anytime soon.
I'm with you 100% Jeff...it almost seems weird to replace it with something that can't possibly be as practical or well built and for certain costs more. I don't live in a big city so I can't speak to the blind spot since an armored truck would be fine in Hawaii (so long as it had good a/c) but I think we'll keep our as well for quite some time.
Simply put TOYOTA'S = QUALITY and RELIABILITY and best resale of any vehicle on the planet 👍 FJ Cruisers are better money in the bank wish they never stopped exporting them to the states. We love ours; nice video thanks for sharing👍😊

Owned other SUVs and few with front live axle but none gave me the overall satisfaction of the FJ Cruiser I own, its best complete overall package.

I have an 08 black diamond Fj. It’s by far the best vehicle that I have owned. The locking differential is a rear locker. I believe you said center locker. My 3rd gen sr5 4Runner has a center differential locker. Both of these vehicles seem to be appreciating. I constantly am being asked if I want to sell them. That yellow is starting to grow on me. I am on the hunt for a newer Fj. Something with crawl control. A trail teams would be nice, but it’s hard to find a clean/un-abused one for under 30k. Anyways that’s a nice looking rig. Enjoy
I really love my 2010 FJ trail teams! It's my second FJ I upgraded from the 2007 model that didn't have all the features of a trail teams model.

Awesome video, very informative. I have had my eyes on the Toyota fj 's for a while. I might just have to go test drive one. Your video brought back some wonderful memories of my parents, they used to live on the Big Island, outside of Hilo.
Wow, I love Hilo Steve and the FJ would be pretty much perfect there as well. I would recommend the earlier years because even though the fuel economy is lower, they are WAY less expensive than the newer ones and just as bulletproof. It's possible that FJ's have the best build quality of any vehicle ever made outside of something super exotic.
Just an fyi, the early models don’t need premium. It was a toyota service bulletin that simply stated that premium was needed to achieve the advertised gas mileage in the first couple model years.

This is my favorite car I e ever owned. My entire family iare JEEP owners and even they ask to drive the FJ. In 2021 it still feels like it rolled out of the factory this morning and I have 176K on it. My in-laws just bought a Ford SUV in December of 2020 and it feels so cheap and flimsy compared to my FJ. I Also own a 2015 4 Runner SR5 which I adore but if given the choice when offroading it's my FJ every time. Just buy one if you can, you'll love it.

I think so, too. I just drove 216,000 original miles on my ‘07 TRD. It has gone through 5 windshields, 2 alternators, but other than that trouble free. Changed brake pads at 125,000 mi, R rear disc because it got a small piece of granite jammed into the caliper, tires every 18 months or so, change fluids every 4,000 to 5,000 miles, 21 GPM when driving from San Diego to Salt Lake City and back. The paint, the upholstery, the floor mats don’t mix well with desert heat and mountain snow. It will go anywhere I want to go and get me there in one piece. Future plans include a 2” lift and paint.
I've never see someone restmod one but I'm curious if that will be the next big thing for these 200+k FJ's that just don't want to give up, ever
Great video...combining two of my favourites... The FJ Cruiser + Hawaii! It's like this video was made for me! I have had my 07 FJ Cruiser since Jan 07 and have enjoyed it for 13 years! I did not know the FJ Cruiser was designed by a 24 year old... I thought it was created by a California design firm, nor did I know it was on a Lexus platform, I thought all along it was on a 4-Runner platform?
I get to Hawaii on vacation every year (except the COVID19 year) escaping the cold Canadian winters but have yet to find a way to get my FJ cruiser and myself permanently relocated to Hawaii! Thanks for the great video...Thumbed up and Subscribed.
Hawaii is going to be pretty much the go-to vacation destination when the dust settles and you'll realize that over the past year we all have decided to get '07 FJ Cruisers. They cost nothing on the Mainland, they're worth a fortune here and they're literally perfect for going to off-the-beaten-path beaches.
I know this Japanese engineer...I was in his presentation of the vehicle.I bought suddenly 2007 FJ,Std,with all the options.
Believe it or not, 87 octane is just fine in the '07-'09 FJs. 91 is just to get you to your 239hp + 275ft/lbs

I got a 2011 garage queen with 17,500 miles...I'm stoked.
The locking rear diff, has no power sharing left to right with the front. , it only locks the rear axle.
They are still available here in the Philippines and I retired and moved from NY to pick myself up a 2016 FJ Cruiser. Had a Jeep Wrangler earlier but the FJ is far more reliable and fun vehicle to own. The chassis on FJ is smaller than the Prado's and therefore it handles better off road.

2010 also has bigger 8.2 rear diff too, 8 inch earlier one can have breakage issues. But 2010+ cost way more money & a lot less common due to way lower sales.

It's literally impossible to go wrong with an FJ Cruiser Jose. You could get the worst one in town and pay $5,000 too much and it would still be a great buy. We're seriously considering getting another one. We just love ours to death

Toyota actually released an official statement saying that 87 is just fine in the early FJ’s.
That's awesome Andrew...whether definitive or just random, we get 16 mpg with regular and 17.5 with premium combined driving. We've tried regular a few times now since that's all the station on the north part of the island ever seems to have.
Runs 87 fine just giving away a few ponies and some mpgs. I personally didn't notice much difference either way on my 07

My 2007 FJ (sunfusion yellow) has been getting 19.6 MPG on regular gasoline. Not sure what it will get once I put a new set of spark plugs in it. This is not highway MPG. This is 65 MPH on back roads and county roads from home to town. 16 miles round trip a few times per week. Great vehicle and fun to drive. Currently has about 162K miles on it.

I have a 2007 fj & only bad thing is the crazy blind spots & no back windows open..otherwise lookin forward to seeing how many miles i can get..190,000 & counting..hoping to get to 400k !🤘🏼

*Awesome review thanks for mentioning the fact that prior to 2010 it requires Premium fuel, I know they are not great on fuel mileage but the current price in Canada the difference between regular and premium might justify the cost of a 2010 or newer, This is also the first one I seen with that sub-woofer option.*
They don’t *require* premium gas, they get better gas mileage with it. Simple google search will give you all the info you need.

2007 FJ cruiser will run just fine on regular 87 octain gas. It will run optimally on premium gas. - per owners manual.

The title should read, best gas guzzling suv ever. lol If you're looking for a toy for off road use and you're okay with getting 14 mpg, go for it! I have one and I love it for that but my daily suv is a Subaru Forester that gets 35 mpg on a bad day and 37+ on a good day! With gas prices as they are, it's good to have a good affordable to operate daily and a gas guzzling toy second.

2007 to 2009 does run on regular gas, sensors automatically de-tune to run properly.

I didnt realize it required it, just curious if you ever tried running lower octane.
I've only done it one time at an out of the way gas station on the other side of the island and there was no difference...but I don't know if that would be the case long term

@@allenlockerman6510 I have did a little more digging on the premium fuel and a guy in one of my forums sent me this Technical bulletin that supossily Toyota released saying its perfectly fine to use 87 octane.

I finished watching the video and I see a lot of people satisfied with the FJ. Is it recommended buying a 2007 with 115,000 miles? I’m just scared of buying it and having to rebuild the engine or transmission soon. Thank you for the informative video!
We purchased ours with over 230,000. it now has 267,000 plus. Its a Toyota, dont be afraid. Still runs perfectly. Took it off road (still stock) on a medium, level 5 off road (4 wheel, and 4 low) last week. Did flawlessly.

A-Trac is for all 4 wheels, REAR Dif lock, is for.......REAR DIF ONLY, not for front, that's where the A-Trac kicks in.
The locking diff is in the rear not the center

I have the 2011 and chose the 2010+ range during my search for the newer engine. I figured gas prices won't be low forever and I don't want to pay premium prices, so better to just pay the premium price for the FJ upfront. 😂 For some reason, there's a HUGE price difference for 2010+ compared to 2007 to 2009. The 2010+ also gets ever so slightly better MPG.
We love our 2007 and it only cost 14999 with 100k. A 2013 with 100k is closer to 25-30k and we just won't ever drive it enough to make up that difference. Our thing is always to buy a car, keep it 2 years and sell it for what we bought it for or more. It's weird how that thought process completely changes what you look for in a car.

I hope to get my rusty rear cRoss member replaced due to rust and then maybe replace my front 4x4 actuator so I can get my 2007 FJ into four wheel drive. I have heard FJ s5ands for “fake Jeep”.....mine means “F’n Junk”
If the the interior of your vehicle is coming loose and you cannot focus your eyes, AIR DOWN YOUR TIRES.
Quite a bit rattling going on in the fj when off road, is it normal, must be very annoying at least for me.
how bad is the noise while it is going on highway speed such as 100??
I don't think we've ever gone faster than 85 or so in ours and it's pretty loud with the big Mickey Thompsons. Our other SUV is a Mercedes that rides like a Rolls Royce, but my wife and I both prefer the FJ.

I love the Toyota FJ Cruiser, I just wished it got better gas mileage. In much the same way, even though I kind of prefer the Toyota 4Runner to the Honda Passport, the Toyota is let down by an old lackluster and inefficient V6 and 5 speed automatic transmission. The big surprise was that a Jeep Wrangler gets better mpg than the Toyota. Which is why I see most folks opting to choose a Passport and modify the tires for off-road grip in order to get the most out of both worlds.
I agree that better mileage would be a plus and that the Passport (with better tires) is really nice both on and off road. The FJ is just so awesome off road and has such amazing build quality that it's a tough act to follow. Resale is so strong these days that it's fairly certain these will be coveted collector cars in the future.

I wish they would have come out with a full off road package with rollbars, off-road lights, heavy duty transmission and V8...that would have been perfect.

BTW, if you just got it. Make sure to go over the grease nipples on the drive train. In most case, they are neglected by mechanics

Hmmm...they're going up in value, so maybe not to the point of a collector car but whatever other term there is for something going up in value I suppose you could call it that instead. I'm pretty comfortable in knowing what it can do but I simply wanted to demonstrate how it works. We'll take it down to the Green Sand Beach in a couple of weeks and if you know Hawaii you'll know that's kindof a thing.

I bought my 2014 stick shift for 25k three years ago. I am getting offers over 35k now. It maybe no La ferrari but it’s going up in value.
