This beat still stops me in my tracks.... that baseline, OMG !! I cannot express in words, how this beat effects my soul, I just can't... all I know is that after repeating it again & again & again I still have to listen to it again..
Oftentimes, the first thought that generally comes to mind for many when thinking of the word "star" is the marquee name on a bill, or the featured actor/actress in a film, or something along those lines. The truest stars, though, are the celestial streetlights that litter the night sky, which brings me to this beat. 'Starz' mentally places me on a sandy Caribbean shore, sometime between dusk and dawn, star-gazing. Shout out to Waajeed for creating the vibe behind the vision on this tranquil track.
@leshawn71 Waajeed's biggest influence by far was Dilla, and he is also a pretty talented cat,so i dont find that too surprising. Dilla's music lives on through producers who are inspired by him.
And I believe Ta'Raach also sampled another portion of Heatwave's 'Star The Of The Story' to produce his powerful piece of the same name (which centers around women/relationships), featuring Big Tone/Anthony Jackson of Mojoe Music, from his "Re:Lacks // Vol. 1 With The World" album...back when he went by the moniker Lacks (short for Lacksidaisycal). Shout out to Raach, Tone, and the entire Breakfast Club crew.
~this beat is simply.....incomparable!!! --it's way beyond the typical scale and measure of any and all related beats of it's time an structure... --no discredit to DILLA ( for this is truly a DILLA-worthy -- if not inspired track...), but i've long understood this song to be an ELZHI creation - although one could definitely see why anyone could possibly mistake this piece for another DILLA original.../// frankly, i still can't convince myself that DILLA didn't produce this - anyone kno 4-sure?

You already got the answer but, I would have told you to, find it or BE WITHOUT... And this is coming from a kat that, made tracks both, with and against these dudes... Detroit was nutts (figuratively and literally) and a place with so much SOUL... Man, start going to used Record Shops and just buying albums... Put the time and work in and the hitz will come back to you, as if, they were always there.

Heatwave from Ohio and Slum/Waajeed from Detroit. Midwest all day. I miss the jazz in hip hop, waajeed knows what music is. #fuckthetrapsound

Other than "H*es", Dilla's beats weren't that good on the Trinity album.

Waajeed and Dilla are/were close friends and learned together the free unquantized swing…
