We also had one of the biggest scientists ever: Hendrik Lorentz. Even Einstein, who was his personal friend, called him brilliant. Lorentz spend 8 years of his life to help design the "afsluitdijk", which is still the largest dam in the world, which can be seen from space (even though his design work was finished in 1926), but he also received the Noble prize for his work on magnetism.

I think it might also have to do with the fact that it's a small country, so we have limited space and have to be very efficient with how we use it. We're currently No.6 (I think) of the world's food exporters, behind a whole lot of countries which are a lot bigger than us. That's because we have some very advanced farming and greenhouse techniques.

My grandfather always told me the story of the invention of the color TV at Phillips (which was an international efford). They used to show the first color screens to the cleaning and security crews to ask them what they thought about it. They were flabbergasted. Thanks for your comment! Yes, Amsterdam is quite a different landscape and creature altogether. We love being here and being in this beautiful country. Thanks for watching our video. We appreciate you.

Apartheid south africa is also a dutch invention
And a lot more things that the Netherlands is afraid to talk about

Hey there! Thanks for watching our video! Since this video is about amazing Dutch inventions, we decided to go with this list. We're aware of the rest, so maybe we'll cover that in the future. Thanks again for watching!

Dutch invented apartheid? The Dutch sounding name should not be conflated with a policy of segragation coming form South African politics. Nothing to do with Netherlands.
Btw, and no not trying out whataboutism, do check out how Indonesians treated non whites during the merdeka period. So sure let's talk and discuss.
Mean time I have moved on form both 80 years war agaisnt the Spanish and years occupation by the NAZIS. Just keep things real, peace!

@@ervie60 i still wake up covered in sweat from fear for the Romans 2000 years ago.
but seriously, those people who cherry-pick things from a nation/group to b*tch about are just stupid.
every nation/culture etc has done terrible things and things we wouldn't do now anymore. but slave trade/slavery used to be just another "normal" thing like child labor.
compare it with fossil fuel. since the industrial revolution it's been the backbone of progress. but it might become illegal in the (near) future, as good alternatives will become more and more easily available.
