- The BIGGEST Quest 2 SCAM Yet...
In Todays video I go over the recent Quest 2 Beginner mistakes I've seen throughout the community before the Quest 2's return to sale on the 24th. I cover some of the mistakes Facebook and Oculus don't make clear and how to avoid them along with some tips & tricks along the way.

My channel is about VR Content (obviously lol) I've covered many topics on this channel in the past such as PC Building, PC Gaming Knowledge, Gaming News. That can be CPM rates, Industry knowledge, Business knowledge, how to edit, how to build a gaming PC, budget or not. But VR is cooler so I'm probably gonna keep doing that.
I'm like the monkey you send into space for tests. I just come back with the results and give them to you for FREE.

Biggest mistake i’ve seen is my friend refusing to get any accessories as his headset works ‘fine as it is’. His controllers are covered in scratches, he constantly complains about pain in the back of the head but refused to believe it’s from the terrible original head strap and also still has the stock face cover which causes rashes on the face.
Yeah thats like me at the moment I can barley play vr at the moment for more then a hour since how uncomfortable some stuff is like the straps hurt the back of my head and I get rashes and stuff but I can't buy any accessories at the moment since I have no money
Some people like me think the default options for the headset feel fine and think the extra accessories are just a waste of money. "If it ain't broke don't fix it"
Bro I have the exact same friend, except the only thing he’s sort of complained about was the sweat absorbent foam pad. And he didn’t even necessarily complain about it, he just sort of agreed that it’s gross
Well, technically your friend is correct, the headset does work “fine as it is.” . The oculus now comes with a silicone face cover, or, if you already own one, you can just get one for free from the official oculus company, and the straps are only terrible if you don’t use them correctly, GetHip explains how to properly use them, and the scratches on the controller isn’t because of no accessory or bad design, it’s because of your friend using the controllers in an incorrect manner. The oculus doesn’t need accessories, your friend just needs to fix his use of the headset.
He can litterally get a vr cover for free
When you connecting your charging cable you should make sure it's all way in. If the contact is loose it will get hot and can even cause fire. This principle works not only for Quest 2 but for all electrical devices and cables.
Intresting. So that could be a huge reason for the melting charging points?
I've personally seen someone put a quest, lens side up, charging, *near a window.* Oh god
LMAO WHAT
🎵Amaaaaaazing graaaaaaace🎵
@@TryStrike_Panda HOW SWEEEEEEEEEEET THE SOUND
That headset is fucked now XD
@@TryStrike_Panda the perfect rhymeeeeee
I had a friend get scammed on hone of those sites. Two Quest 2s for $79. How the hell they fell for that is beyond me.
Greed
The BIGGEST mistake I've seen someone make is when my friend was playing with his quest and he thought he saw some dirt on the lenses so he proceeds to SCRATCH the lenses and now he complains that his quest doesn't work
The biggest mistake I have seen some of our family friends use with their oculus is not adjusting the straps when taking turns. Some of their faces looked like raccoons!
And they would play and leave it in the sunlight for shortish periods of time.
Also, thanks for the great video, keep up the awesome work!!!
i am so glad you mentioned the eye strain thing. Seriously, you need to care for your eyes. And observing far away things and trying to name details of it can be pretty fun anyways.
The biggest mistake that so many new people do is having no straps on and play beat saber and thrill of the fight and ending up either breaking something or hitting someone with a controller that’s going 70 mph
About the melted charging port issue:
You can actually completely power off your headset by holding the off button for a while. Wait until you see a menu in a completely gray background. It should have "power off" in the farthest right button. That will completely shut it down and make it safe to keep on the charger after hitting 100%. So far, the only downside to this might be that the battery life drains faster, but I also have a bunch of experimental things and a lot of battery draining apps, so that may be from that rather than a charging issue. Hope this helps!
The biggest mistake I have ever seen anyone do was when I was talking to one of my friends who just bought himself a oculus quest 2 and he said that it’s really hard to play without bumping into things. When I asked him how big his play space was he said, “probably like 2x2 feet or something.” 😐……🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
A friend of mine jumped to punch the ceiling in Accounting+. Turns out he uppercutted his actual ceiling too and broke his controller too :) Was painfull to watch
I think the charging port issue is helpful, this is really good to know. Let’s hope oculus fixes it in the future.
I found it useful because I know a friend who was using his Chromebook charger and I sent this to him
Pretty new to VR but i have seen people not give themselves enough space to play games and run into real items.
Good luck all and thank you for the videos
I noticed something was off when I saw the word ‘compatible’ was spelled out as ‘compitble’. I found it odd that such a prestigious company would make that sort of mistake.
Experts:"Prolonged gameplay may have damaging effects to eyes."
My already trash eyes: Let's see how far we can take this.
yeah my eyes were bad a really long time before i even had any electronic devices, and now im practically blind in my left eye, and not much better in my right, to the point where i cant even make out large text more than a foot from my face without my glasses, which i can no longer use in vr due to me dropping my headset and cracking the glasses spacer (not the headset), so im basically screwed unless i only play beat saber from now on.
Heroes never die
@@kirobean damn dude that sucks I hope you can find a fix or future developments in technology to help you 😊
@@kirobean You can get another one on amazon for about $9
@@kingcodingg yeah i got a new one now
I've been working from home since March 2020, and my computer has been by only form of entertainment since 2014. Recently I've had to start wearing reading glasses when working, and immediately after, but not so much the rest of the time. I just got my oculus a few days ago, and have noticed that after using it for a while, I do need my glasses for a while after taking off the headset.
The only mistake I've seen friends make is delaying on buying one. Only two out of about 20 of our gaming group has headsets so far but we are working on correcting that.
The biggest mistake I saw was the one you mentioned in the start of the vid I didn’t even realise it was humanly possible to melt the charging port
To solve the last problem and also solving the bad default strap problem I got one of the sets that come with an oculus cover controller cover and a back strap that you can change with scroll wheel it’s a really good set for $30 and it looks really good too
Well I have been playing 6 months and never seen about the top strap.
Just tried it and that is a game changer. Thank you.
As someone who has been waiting to purchase a quest 2 I almost bought one of the scams because it was the first website that appeared.
Just got my quest 2 in the mail today thinking I didn't need any of the cool accessories you have been recommending and man was I wrong 😅 Thanks for having a code for VR lenses!! Really hoping it makes my setup more comfortable. Also, a synth rider key would be pretty epic to start off my vr journey 🤗🤗🤗
this is actually a mistake i have made and i im so glad you brought it up.
so basically i was on a vacation for THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT, and the entire time my quest 2 which i love so freaking much, i just let it sit there charging for the entirety of my vacation.
god damn, im an actual moron.
How is it now?
@@funguy-yt7632 luckily it did not melt or anything.
Me: hears that eye health part
Also me a week earlier:
Almost 2 hours simrace in VR.
Oh well, guess my great eyes will die now.
Appreciate you spending so much time underscoring our eyes are not designed to stay at one focal length for long periods.
I've had glasses for a few years now, and most doctors will tell you "every 20 minutes, look away for 20 seconds" (I'm far-sighted) it really does seem like its useless, but it's useful, really, you should look away every 20 minutes.
My friend looked up fast as hell and his quest went flying up to the ceiling (like oculus’ stonks if they brought back powers united I digress) and broke the front plastic cover off of his quest and then it died. That is the most insane mistake I’ve seen someone make. Hope I win the synth riders key!
Rip
The biggest mistake I see is leaving the headset plugged in constantly when not in use. This drives me crazy as I know it is degrading their battery.
Thanks for the tips.
The biggest mistake I have seen with some of my VR heavy friends brother wanted to play with his older brothers headset he said yes but he made the mistake of turning of his guardian the day before and the wall had a hole as well as the controllers ring snapped
i had a friend who would tap the off button to put it in “sleep mode” when unused(sometimes for multiple days), and only turned it fully off when he died so he could plug it in. the plastic on the top of the headset burnt as that’s the part that gets the most heat when it is on
One of the mistakes I've seen people use is probably not cleaning their room before playing or getting in the most spacious are of a room as alot of people have small rooms where you can't move alot of things like me so it is very easy to make this mistake
biggest mistake i did when i first got my quest 2 this christmas, I relied on the back straps instead of the top strap, it also didnt help that i was on it for hours. Make sure you dont do that and make sure u have your top strap holding most the weight
The biggest mistake I saw was when I was born 😐
This is one that you didn't mention but my cousin did it all the time before he didn't actually use the charger that came with the quest and it destroyed his battery to the point where he had to buy a new quest
2 mistakes : the first one is putting too much weight on the side straps and second, using an old bad PC for PCVR :)
I think the most common and stupid mistake would be having the side straps way too tight causing the mark under your eyes after people have used for weeks/months
(1:32)i do not have an oculus quest 2 yet but i will get one when the 128gb model releases. (i do have an oculus account though)on ebay the 64 gb model is selling for $550 because people think it is never coming back, it hurt to see 195+ sold on an ebay listing for $550(usd)
Biggest mistake I've seen is dismissing VR as not being good enough. I am finally jumping into the VR for the first time. Lesssgooo
I got my quest 2 (my first vr experience) like 2-3 weeks after I had laser eye surgery. As a result, I really only play for 20-25 minute periods, then go do something else and come back if I feel like it just to be safe with my new and healing eyes
you've come so far and i've been there since the beginning, watching you grow... ROAD TO 100K!!!
Biggest Mistake: my friend kept their quest on their window sill and after a week, the direct sunlight destroyed it!
Noted about the eyestrain. I'm saving up for a Quest 2, so that's actually really helpful.
“To everyone’s favorite pocket explosive the Samsung galaxy 7” that made me laugh more than it should’ve.
The biggest mistake is hear and see is people telling me they bought a link cable for occur and not even checked if their pc has a usb 3. Also getting a link cable even when they have a 2016 laptop that barely runs anything!
The biggest mistake I've made when first owning the quest2 is tightening the strap too tight, I got a headache for almost a day.
What's your resource on eye damage? Eye strain is one thing but damage is a bigger claim. What I could find suggests there's no reliable evidence of this. One of the sources mentioned was the The American Academy of Ophthalmology, which seems to be a reputable institution as far I can *see* .
Wow this video really helped, and by seeing the likes it is amazing, especially sense there is no dislikes good job gethip
Question my VR Professor ? If the best for battery health is to keep your battery between 20% - 80% why does the low battery message not come on at 20%? It waits until its much lower. And why dosent the green "I'm fully charged light come on at 80%". It come on at like 95%. Both notifications come on after your battery has passed the stressed limits. It makes it really hard to stay within these limits (sad face)
Oh, thanks for another great video!
Twitch viewer: *asks to see if he got scammed*
GetHip: *just laughs at him for a solid minute before*
Honestly, I'm a beginner to Quest 2, I had it for a few months now and the biggest mistake I saw users doing was not using the Guardian, it is there for a reason
Hi. So when I charge my OQ2, I actually set my watch timer depending on how much of a charge the device needs. Then I go back and check on it from time to time and as soon as the light is green I disconnect it. Also when I am done using it I do not leave the extra battery connected to the headset. Nor do I charge the headset and the battery simultaneously meaning charger connected to the battery connected to the headset. I charge them individually and do not reconnect them until I put the device back on. In another video of yours you recommended the 3-in-1 accessory for Oculus quest 2 comfort strap with magnetic battery dock for people wanting to use extra batteries without buying a strap with a built-in battery. I tried the ones with the built-in batteries and I just did not like have they felt on my head. And I tried attaching my battery to the original strap via other means and it just wasn't comfortable. The one that you recommended made the head strap much more comfortable and the magnet is very strong. My battery is on the heavy side so I did have to use the two velcro straps that was included to my surprise in the box with the 3-in-1 accessory for Oculus quest 2 comfort strap with magnetic battery dock. And I do get what you're saying about the top strap, but I do like to keep a snug fit on the device because when I bob and weave I want to make sure that sucker doesn't go flying!
Thank you for your videos. They are very informative and clear to understand and straightforward no bull.
I am looking for a headset cover because I do hit myself in the face sometimes when I'm boxing and was wondering if you had a recommendation. Not sure if you'll even read this but just in case. 😃
the biggest mistake is the fake scam websites. it makes me so sad to think about some grandmas or grandpas trying to get something nice for their grandchild, and getting scammed 😓
WHAAT LAST TIME I SAW YOU, YOU HAD 20K CONGRATS MAN!
Gethip:*hugs quest*
Me:nothing,just walking my pet quest
Thanks for all these Guide videos for the quest 2 because I’m going to be getting one
Oh that poor person. thats horrible, she had no clue about it. All she saw was, "Ohh look, discount." thats so unfortunate
The dumbest mistake I've seen is my friend using his quest on a chair while going downhill to "simulate being on a roller-coaster". It did not end well.
Looses your headstrap before you put the headset back on. The plastic bit that connects to my top strap broke.
Biggest mistake I make is the head strap and also playing for too long I literally kept the headset on for a while thought taking breaks I played half life Alex from almost the beginning for a very long time
The biggest mistake I see people committing is letting those lenses get in sunlight. I see people playing outside during the day and it's just a matter of time until something startles them, and they take off their, headset and boom!
The biggest mistake I’ve seen was my cousin overcharging his overnight and when I got mine he was surprised on how much longer mines lasted compared to his. Not as big as the others but one that could make it worse for u.
When i charge any device i have beside me if not I make sure to check on it frequently to make sure it doesn't go over for some its common sense but for others they just don't know
I guess my big mistake was buying one exactly 31 days before they announced the 64 gb would now be double. I was PISSED
Im getting a vr oculus quest 2 and I've looked at many of ur vids ty for all the information
Biggest mistake I've seen is not knowing what an ipd is and not knowing it can be set on the vr headset. The entire family were all using the same setting.
The biggest mistake I made was buying the Rift S just right before it got discontinued for the Quest 2 and now its already failing me so I gotta get a Quest 2 anyways, smh
Hey man that eye strain complications part you got from the healthline article written in 2017 is likely incorrect. I reported the article for review. If you look up eye strain complications you’ll see all other sources saying there are no evidence for long term complications, yet that healthline article listed at 3.
I've seen someone jump off a "cliff" into the "void" also known as his new TV which his parents weren't to happy about
Hey I downloaded Synth Riders on my PSVR and your correct it is super fun!
I think a mistake everyone does is not check the updates and the experimental features they keep adding, they are adding other features from other vr headsets.
the pre-roll ad for this video was a quest ad. what a coincidence.
I fell for a scam sight while trying to buy an oculus. I still don’t have an oculus quest 2 and I’m still very sad that I got scammed.
the eye problem thing doesnt even relate to me. i sit on my computer and stare at my monitors 24/7 almost (so im pretty tolerable to screens) and i play in vr for hours on end without taking it off, and even with my astigmatism, i've never had eye problems or strain.
Insane mistake that I’ve seen people make is running into walls with their headset on. If you feel like you need to run into a wall at least take the headset off first
The biggest mistake I’ve seen is I saw something about someone thought they were supposed to keep your quest in direct sunlight
I saw that oculus website and was confused
My biggest mistake I've ever seen happen was when my friend left his quest in the SUN. He came back and said his quest 2 wasn't working right and I asked him about it. I sadly had to tell him that he burnt his quest lenses and he didnt have money to get another😞
I know someone who fairly regularly goes on at about 9 and stays on till about 4 am with little t no breaks
Biggest mistake I’ve seen is my brother simply not using the wrist straps like an idiot. This leaded to him throwing the controller at my wall.
the biggest mistake i saw someone do was one of my friends got a quest 2 and he was playing with the headstrap incorrectly and he had it so tight that he ended up ripping the plastic tabs that hold the headset on to the strap and completely killed it
Biggest mistake I've seen someone make?
Seeing someone cleaning their dirty lenses with paper towels. (Fun fact, there is an acceptable amount of glass particles allowed to be in paper towels, which makes it a really bad choice for cleaning lenses or your face.)
The biggest mistake I've seen is not plugging in the cable for the headset into power and spending hours trying to work out why it is not charging.
My friends never use the loop that goes around your arm and ended up throwing it at me and broke the controller
I would say the biggest mistake I've seen people make is complete forgetting to adjust the eye pieces horizontally on the sliders, they can make such a big difference for each individual person.
Probably only using side straps my face got really red or stepping on my link cable and snapping the cable off in the headset.
Biggest mistake I've seen was someone trying to drive irl with it 🤣
I saw someone through their original quest across a room at a friend, was shocked
The biggest mistake I have seen is when I walked into my friends room and there was a beam of light directly on the inside lenses 😫
Ps: great vid can’t wait to pick up my first vr headset on 24
Bro like here in Czechia, one of the biggest electronics store (Alza) sells Quest 2 with 64GB only for 500czech crowns cheaper (about 30$ i think), than the 256GB version and both of them are new lmao
Edit: i just looked up how much 500czk is and it’s 23usd rn lol
Basically, everyone does that mistake with overtightening
Biggest mistake that I've seen is when my mate had a flat controller, assumed it was broken (we had both just gotten Quest 2s), and threw the controller across the room into a brick wall. Not fun.
A quick list
Not washing the foam face cover
Never adjusting the strap
Leaving the eye adjustment at 3 and he complains about bluryness
Leaves it charging for days
Not playing it for days
The biggest mistake I saw, perhaps more so in the early days, was users so impressed by their first VR experience that they would give every single title a 5 star rating. If everything is 5 star, then nothing is 5 star, and the ratings become meaningless. I found it so frustrating when every single game was 4.5 to 4.9, as it really didn't help in deciding what to buy. And if I see another review titled, "WOW, JUST WOW!", I may just lose my mind!
The biggest mistake Iv'e made with my quest is that I forgot the default strap only straps onto the upperhead and I tried to look down between my legs and my quest fell
biggest mistake i saw was when i got my friend a sticker for oculus( it was a batman cover) and he put it over 3/4 of the sensors
I have the quest 1 and your tip about the top strap doesn't work for me cause my top strap snapped off XD
Ignoring the Glasses Spacer and putting the Headset on w/o even tho they should if they wear glasses.
I just ordered one in Australia and I can’t wait for it to come. Not making any of these mistakes
I am having to have my entire setup replaced because it just will not keep tracking no matter what I do and the controllers keep dissapearing when playing
I can't even get one of these and people are making scam websites?
The nuggets mistake is probably users WAITING TILL 1 PERCENT TO CHARGE like that kills the battery so much
