Harold B Lee is one of my favorite prophets in the church. If this message didn't pertain to that time it certainly does now.

I had a relative who, during their talk in sacrament meeting, read the entire Proclamation On The Family word for word. After the talk, the Bishop told him "that was very brave". I've seen Bishop's upset that members have quoted President Benson's comments about the constitution, and even seen people upset when quoting very recent talks by Elder Oakes. While the church "seems" to be changing, by virtue of its teachings, it CAN'T change to what the world wants it to be.

WOW, how so much more relevant are his remarks today in the age of digital media and TikTok brains.

this address was given during hippie days , the 60s . there was plenty of " aimlessness " during that time.

And there's plenty now as well. I imagine there probably always has been (to varying degrees).

True. Elder Oaks tends to tell it how it is sometimes

There is sooo much more substance in the older conference talks in my opinion.

I'd like to point out that when he's talking about "liberals in the Church" that this means people who reinterpret the Scripture to suit their own desires. He's not talking about politicians or political leanings. If you belong to a conservative political party but you choose to be a loyalist to your party above being a child of God then whatever political doctrine that you embrace which goes against the Scripture makes you a liberal in the Church. And vice versa for people who are politically liberal but choose to be a child of God before being a party loyalist, if they're following the Scripture they are conservatives in the Church. I'm sure you find people with politically liberal and politically conservative leanings who fall on both sides of the liberal or conservative spectrum within the Church.

I agree. In the general definition of liberal and conservative in a general sense, liberal means wanting to change something while conservative means want to preserve something as it stands. I do not like today people use for in term of political or religious base on one writer coined years ago which bear no relevance to the original meaning. Maybe when the writer coin this word years ago, it may have suit that time, however, the laws do change over time where one may called themselves as conservative in the past are now as liberal because the old laws is no longer effective and the one called themselves as liberal in the past are now as conservative because they manage get the newer bill passed as they desire. In the video context, it is focus on the church member who think the church’s doctrine should be “adjust” according to their heart desires.since they believe it needs to be age, they are “liberal”.
Personally, I have seen many members who self-proclaimed as political Conservative (as we see from the information from several mass-media) are, as I see, actually a liberals themselves. I thought it is kind of irony that the way they proclaim themselves.
