Eric, your namesake Eric Laithwaite invented Maglev and appeared on TV in the UK in the 70s "Christmas Lectures". He's the reason I became an electrical engineer. A friend and I built a miniature functional Maglev system when we were at high school.
Yeah Japan is really bad at planning these train systems. They recently built the shinkansen going to Fukui. Before the shinkansen we only have to transfer twice to get to KIX. Now we have to ride the shinkansen for 20 mins to the end and transfer to the same express train we did before and do the same transfers, so 3 times now. It also saves no time and we have to pay more, but the same rail line still exists for the express train to go all the way to Toyama.

Eric, your guess about alternating polarity is very much in the right direction.
Loved this one 😁😁
Nice. I went to the maglev test track by kawaguchiko a few months ago. I can’t wait for the real one.

cool train, nice view from it
You guys are getting your Tesla science on.
You guessed right, that's basically a linear motor.
Friggin magnets; how do they work?!?
Push pull. 😊
Eric is correct in how it works. the train probably has baterries.
