I got a hangover at the end of the song. Honestly, Shane is the reason why I love Irish punk rock. Pure soul, no shits given to what people think. Plus, these songs are drinking songs. Deal with it! Cheers to my good man, Shane.
For those who think there's no talent here, or whatever, ok, technically Shanes talent level is different than the usual scale, but the way he sings and what he sings really appeals to me personally, and I try to listen to all types of music. To make art that resonates deeply requires real talent. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Cat Stevens are all equal to Shane I would say. They all have their styles that they gravitate around whether you like to admit it or not. Just as much as Shane does. You h
@shawndimery I saw Shane in L.A. @ the House of Blues in 1998 and I tell you this guy delivers. One of the best shows I have been to. He staggered on stage, the mic stand held him up, while he performed one of the greatest lyrically sound performances I have yet to witness..never missed a beat...flawless. It was amazing to witness. Of course the band (the popes) kicked ass as well. Definitely check him out before HE "checks out". Not to sure how long his liver will hold up. Hopefully much longer
Well, they're celebrating his 60th in bit. So your six year old self was a wee bit shy of the mark, thank gods! Not that I would've disagreed with you at the time.
Fat Mike, Ian McKay, hello biafra, Rollins. There are tons. Maybe not your specific sub genre of Punk. Johnny Rotten still alive. Sid will always be with is in Spirit. The vandals still alive. First punk show I've been to.
Seen this legand at the kings hall Belfast. 23rd of December 2008 and he had a bottle of whiskey in his hand singing the fairy tail of new york. Then introduces sinead O Connor on stage as a surprise appearance to fill in for Christy McCall. Pougues are the best
@@toraimanchester4658 I know joey well. Check out him doing this song with Ronnie Drew, I think it's on the Late late Show here in Dublin. Ronnie looks over at him simply appalled. But he does kinda get away with it here in a Punky sort of way, I actually like this version.
@shawndimery if you can't see his talent then you are either blinded by the fact that he isn't the greatest looking guy in the world or you have never heard any of his song writing for the pogues. the guy has undeniable talent, one of the greatest songwriters ever.
I love the Pogues, and I have nothing but empathy for Shane, who is a very distant relative. But every time I watch a late-stage video with him in it, I feel like I should turn myself in for abuse of the elderly.
After listening to this version I honestly dont think Shane would sound as bad these days if he did get fitted with some teeth, never want this legend to change but think it would make him sound ace again!
I "love" Shane! Glass falls off Shane's head the producer is like "FUCK!" Hank destroy-stares down said producer and he whimpers to the corner dribbling piss down his leg. Shane is my hero. I love his music. Even the stuff that isn't great is amazing.
I dare any sober person to remember these lyrics and sing them. Now drink heavily for 40+ years and get up on stage and sing it ... Not a tribute but a sad story to what could of been ... if only he could stop.
@GoingToPasalacqua12 Cool, I will definately check them out, I greatly admire good music and was curious to see if Shane lived up to his name, this vid was my first impression is all, thanks for the suggestions my friend.
@GoingToPasalacqua12 Great songs indeed, I am interested in his his music, im not a troll (thats why im watching this vid!) Can you recomend any albums for me?
@shawndimery not only does he compare to them but he far surpasses them, just take a minute and listen to the likes of "fairytale of new york" (you've likely heard that one anyway) or "a rainy night in soho", fucking brilliant song's. and on your last point your way off, macgowan didn't write this, this one is a traditional Irish song which has been sung for years.
@shawndimery my personal favourite is "Red Roses for Me", but you can't fault "Rum, Sodomy and The Lash" or "If I Should Fall From Grace With God", also the EP "Poguetry In Motion" is worth checking out. let me know what you think of these if you do listen to them. cheers for being open minded
@GoingToPasalacqua12 one of the greatest songwriters ever? Does he really compare to Neil Young? Bob Dylan? Cat Stevens? Tom Petty? Tom Waits? Shane was totally wrecked and he still nailed it.
My thoughts exactly. Great performance

shane about the Pogues said "we play better when we are are not drinking, but it's more fun when we are drinking".
i just wish they have created more.

One of the best singer song writers of all time
All I know is that either he has a great skill or not, he touched so many people’s heart with his music
Seeing the Pogues is one of my favorite memories ever. And I been all over this world.
Beautiful
Shane has the saddest eyes I've ever seen..love this Legend ❤☘☘☘☘
Yes agree and probably has gone through terrible pain in his life
This is the reason he is drinking

Well said, he is at peace now. God bless.
The whistle player was Shane's friend and former Pogues tour manager Joey Cashman. Did his best, bless him!!.
Yeah, know Joey well - he just about gets a way with here! x.
@@niallbourke7963 as fantastic as Shane is, the whistle player was not as pissed as Shane and performed equally as well 🤗 kind wishes from NZ 🖤

In a world of Sam Smith's I would give anything to have the likes of Shane Macgowan back on the mic 🎤💚
You can say that again...
