Our family owns a Corolla, a Hi-ace, a CRV (the oldest model), a Civic, a Montero, a BMW, a Ford, and a Starex. The Starex is our family's favorite. Toyota's AC breaks down a lot, and not just in our units. Our friends and cousins complain about it, too. Also, longevity-wise, Honda, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai don't disappoint. Let's not forget awd feature folks awd gives you full traction whether in bad road nor in good road. Toyota known for quality & resale value but more utilitarian ang dating maybe due to popular Hi Ace Commuter variant. Comfort, spaciousness, and now good enough quality, Starex has caught up based on personal experience. Grandia has 3yrs or 100k km warranty but Staria has 5yrs or 200k km warranty! Im considering Staria fpr next purchase.
I guess hyundai focused more on the tech, rather than the ergonomics. Still I think its cool I mean, when was the last time we had an awd van? I do wish they had more seats (and aircon vents) like the starex urban executive. Lastly, I also wish that the lower variants looked a bit more like the premium+. The exterior of the gls+ doesn't look like it's worth above 2m tbh.
Funny thing about the entire focusing-on-tech thing is Hyundai Philippines decided to really DOWNGRADE our infotainment systems to be similar to the old Hyundai infotainment systems. It's laggy, it's outdated, and just does not look futuristic. If you check other Hyundai Staria videos outside of the PH, you'll see what I mean. VERY disappointed with the choice to go for the older, more inferior infotainment system alone.

Wish we could combine those cool features with Staria and Grandia together. You cannot sit comfortably at back of Grandia even for 4 average people. It's like they forced it to be a 4-seater but it's really just good for 3. I love your review. Mas lamang ang Grandia especially during the bumpy ride.
Surprised about the good ride of the Super Grandia. I have a 2019 Grandia and I usually get motion sickness wherever I sit in the van except when I'm the one driving it.
Not really a fair ride and comfort comparison. The Toyota has meaty and floaty (if you will) 235/60 R17 tires whereas the Hyundai has sporty but bumpy 235/55 R18s. Now as for the untimed performance test and throttle response, both vans have turbodiesel powerplants ergo not only the Hyundai should be regarded to have noticeable Turbo Lag. On the contrary the Toyota's 1GD-FTV has VNT whereas the Hyundai's detuned 2.2 R engine (borrowed from the Santa Fe/Palisade) has VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) which is technically superior on paper and in practice; hence, known to have less turbo lag than the former. You mentioned the Toyota doesn't even have an ECO mode yet there was no remark on how the throttle response was in the Hyundai whilst in Sport Mode. On the value for money front, you gave the nod to the Toyota which broke the 3 Million Peso mark (P3,158,000 if you’re lucky - not including the hefty insurance premium and some ridiculous dealer markups), a top model in 2023 without All Wheel Drive, Paddle Shifters, Automatic Shift-by-wire, Electric Parking Brake with Autohold, Surround View Monitor, Blind-spot View Monitor, Dual Sunroof, Luxury Suede Headliner, Bose Speakers with Surround Sound, 8" Touchscreen Display with Voice Recognition, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (even if its laggy), 10.25” Supervision Digital Cluster, Wireless Charging Pad, Ventilated Nappa Leather Seats that slide sideways for added versatility and a Power Tailgate (controlled remotely via Smart Key with Button Start might I add - same with the Sliding Doors). Hmmm. 🤔
