Jake Berry Shines with Gold Medal Performance at South African National Wushu Championships
Jake Berry, a 17-year-old team member from the SMA Centre, delivered a standout performance at the 2024 South African National Wushu Championships. Competing in the taolu category, Jake performed the Gou Quan Kung Fu form for the first time in public and earned a well-deserved gold medal.
Reflecting on his victory, Jake shared, “Training has been tough because we are also busy writing end-of-year school exams, so I was pleased to be able to perform at this level. Thanks must go to my coach, Shuaimeng Liu, for all his advice and teaching to get me here.”
The Gou Quan performance demonstrated Jake’s dedication to mastering Chinese martial arts, particularly Wushu, which combines physical skill, discipline, and artistry. His success at the South African National Wushu Championships highlights not only his talent but also the strength of the SMA Centre's coaching and training programs.
