- If your guinea pig stops eating, even for just a few days, it can be life-threatening because of a condition called digestive stasis. This video shares how to keep your piggie eating and getting the nutrients they need, even if they are not feeling well, so that they can stay healthy and recover much more quickly.
Important Note: ALWAYS take your piggie to the vet if they are not eating. But feeding them as described here in the meantime, until their vet appointment, can save their life.

Just to say thank you for this info, it is so helpfull. My guinea pig is on critical care at the moment due to an eye infection she stopped eating. I am managing to syringe feed her but I think she is tiring of the CC so giving her flavours she likes is such a good tip. ❤

It’s been 4 days since my Guinea pig had bladder stone surgery and still isn’t eating like he was. The vet said he should be back to normal on the second day but he isn’t. Is this normal for some pigs? Also he only eats when he’s sitting beside me on the couch constantly reminding him to eat. He’s also not drinking on his own. I have been giving him the critical food care package but he’s been fighting it a lot and I’ve been worrying that he’s gonna rip open a stitch or something. Please pray for Buttons well-being 🙏🩵

You can blend up blueberries or apples, or peppers, or other things that Buttons likes to eat. I found Ellie liked this much better than Critical Care. It's important to do everything we can to keep them eating. I hope Buttons feels better very soon 🙏

I vacuum seal the pellet dust & hay dust, then pop it in my freezer. It’s always ready, should I need it.

Great tips! Thank you! Just curious, was she put on another meds like antibiotics? Was there a root cause to her stopping eating that the vet could pinpoint?
@treesnhoney - We later found out that her tooth was very damaged. But the first 2 vets did not detect this, it took a 3rd vet to discover that her tooth was damaged. Because many vets don't know how to treat guinea pigs, it can be hard to diagnose what is going on with them.
What if we try feeding my guinea pig critter care and blended up food but shes refusing to eat it and keeps turning away
I would try different varieties of blended food - Try some greens, try some fruits - See if you can find at least 1 blended food that will appeal to her. She may be feeling too sick to eat. In that case, keep trying again every few hours in hopes that you'll find a time when she is feeling well enough to eat. Thank you for taking such good care of your guinea pig and making the blended foods for her 💖 I hope she'll feel better very soon.
@@SacredPlanet We were told by the vets her back teeth were a little overgrown so she had gas and then her teeth filed back 4 days ago. She is on Baytril antibiotics but she is not wanting to eat at all now, and quite lazy and tired. She is 3.5 years old, not sure whats wrong ?
I'm guessing you have to blend them for at least 10-15 minutes. Samson keeps spitting out the critical care I give him.
I used to mix the critical care, but also take the daily veggies that my boy would get, blend it up and mix it with the critical care for the even extra nutrients, because when a piggy is ill, they need all the extra nutrients to help get better.
So in the future if you need to you can always try that. IT also makes the critical care taste so much better, My boy would take 25 ml each feed, and my vet said feed as much as he will take. So I did. In no time he was back on his regular feed and no hassles.
In how much time did your guinea pig recovered ?
It took 2 or 3 weeks before she was back to her normal self.
I dont own a syringe to feed her what should i do she refuses all food i try to give her
You can buy a small syringe at the grocery store or drug store. Or ask a local vet, they could probably give you a few syringes for free. It's really important to find a syringe because then you can direct it into her mouth more easily. Good luck, I hope your piggy starts eating again soon 💖

Mine died before I saw this.
My daughter’s pet “London’’ just passed 10 minutes ago. We tried feeding her blended pellets with some water and giving her water through a tiny syringe but it didn’t help. The only vet that service small critters in our area is on vacation. London was fine last night but was dragging her legs the next morning. A hour later she would lay on her side and just mouth breathe. My daughter held her in a blanket close to her as she passed. What would cause her to die so suddenly and without warning? 😢
