I actually think Jordan is such a terrible owner precisely because of how great of a player he was. In any organization, there comes a time when the honchos make or are about to make terrible decisions. And in functional orgs, there is a culture of openness and feedback wherein juniors can look at management in the eye and politely inform them that they are making a mistake. Who do you think is going to have the balls to go to THE Michael Jordan and tell him, "With respect sir, you are wrong". I can imagine people doing that to Lacob or Cuban, but not to Jordan.

Nah, it's not because he was a great player, it's because he's an arrogant asshole. You have to look at their personalities and skillsets beyond how great they are as a player.
For example, I firmly believe that if LeBron was an owner, he would hire the best people in place to try to create a winner and he has the basketball IQ to build a team. Jordan is a selfish guy, no two ways around it no matter how great he was.
I mean really, Jordan may have the biggest ego in the history of professional sports. Just because LeBron won that historic championship in 2016, Jordan releases the 1998 "Bulls" documentary but it may as well have been a Jordan documentary with how things were framed.

Recently with some friends we checked the hornets picks from 2004 to 2014, and ended up with the conclusion, that if we only picked up players from the 2010 to 2014 draft, a much more realistically balanced team could be formed around lamelo, taking into account that these players remained in the franchise to this day, we ended up with the following team:
    PG: Lamelo Ball
    SG: Khris Middleton
    SF: Jimmy Butler
    PF: Jae Crowder
    C: Steven Adams
    6TH MAN: Jordan Clarkson.
It is a more defensive start line-up with less three-point shooting, with a big man like Steven Adams and a superstar like Jimmy butler. We were between this variant and placing c. j. McCollum and Robert covinghton instead of khris middelton and jae crowder.
(Forgive me, if you don't understand it in some places, I still don't speak/write English very well).

As far as what makes Jordan such a bad talent evaluator, it's kind of a well-known adage that the best players in a sport make the worst coaches/GMs in the sport. Guys who were that good, particularly if they were unreal physical talents, have a hard time understanding or relating to less-talented players (i.e. 99% of the league). They're also less likely to value "the little things" that are critical to building a winner. Things like discipline, attention to detail, personal habits, studying, and team cohesion are all crucial to team success, but when the guy in charge was good enough to skip some of those steps in his day he's going to overlook it as an executive. Players who were not as good on the other hand HAD to do those things just to survive in the pros, so you can bet they're gonna make sure it happens under their watch.

Like who would have thought that one of the greatest NBA players ever in league history would be a bad owner, he just gambles, drinks and other shit. I think MJ has a long term strategy here and isn't ready to go after free agents just to make a run in the play-offs or play .500 basketball. Especially with the Bucks, Nets, Celtics, Calvs etc dominating the East. I think if you are in a small market, you need to get lucky with picks before you splurge and go for it. Several teams in the NBA have operated that way. Even teams like the Pelicans who had a superstar weren't successful for years. The Milwaukee Bucks are another good example. They had to wait for someone like Giannis to come around. Even if MJ had drafted better, it still wouldn't have put the Hornets much further ahead. Its a curse for teams to spend a pile of money to make the play offs and then have late draft picks.
