Houston is so huge. It stretches almost from Conroe from the North to Galveston to the South and swallowed most of small cities in between to make it a great Houston. You can likely find job in Houston in less than 30 days if you are skillful. You can survive with $12/hr which you can't do in other cities due to the cheap rent. You can find 1/1 apartment as low as $375/mth. You definitely need a good car in Houston with cold AC. Walking is not recommended. You can dine out with different cuisines at affordable price, probably the same as you cook yourself. Last but not least, learn how to change lanes on I-10 W (which is 36 lanes both ways altogether!) if you don't want to miss your exit.
Lived in Houston years ago. It was quite affordable compared to other large cities. My only complaint was the humidity. In the summer it's dreadfully humid.
Thank you. I am actually looking for a one bedroom near the school. (doesn't have to be near the school but in reasonable commute distance) I'll sure let you know when my move gets closer. Thanks again!
Hi Mrs. Valery I'm looking to move to Houston by the end of this year. I'm looking to get a 2 to 4 unit duplex or 4-plex so that I can live in one unit and rent the rest out. Can you help me with this? I prefer the Sugarland, Missouri City, and Pearland areas. Also I'm looking at the Woodlands area as well.
Its a great city but the city needs to put in money to help fix all those tore up neighborhoods because when I bring people to visit they almost always feel unsafe. SMH
Hi Valery Thanks for posting the informative video. I am looking to relocate to Houston this year with my wife for the jobs and affordable housing. We're coming from Los Angeles CA. My question is, what area do you recommend we rent? We don't have jobs yet but that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks!
Nice informations I visited in 2014 and then moved for having section 8 in Lincoln Nebraska now I really can’t stand cold weather and planning to move to Houston Texas I wish you tell me what best neighborhood for families in Houston ?
Thank you for your informative video! I'll be moving to Houston in July to attend UH and have yet to find a place to stay. Do you think I can find a decent, pest-free, possibly newly built apartment for 800 a month?
Val- i love this place.......... but how do i move there when i don't have a degree, and i don't know anyone there..... i would love to get into Real Estate, but i would have to get to Houston first.....any suggestions would greatly help.... i would love to get into Real Estate, but i would have to get to Houston first.....
Great information! do you know much about the D.R. Horton homes? www.drhorton.com/Texas/Houston.aspx? Do I need a realtor to get one of those homes or work with the builder myself?
I love my city so much I don't want ppl to move here and fuck it up. Stay in your hometown. Remember everything is bigger in Texas even our traffic hahaha
whynot280 not disagreeing, i was only kidding. most realtors become useless, when you have redfin etc at your fingertips. you research everything online and pay them thousands to write a contract. realtors are a joke. all houses come down to price, location, condition....the realtor dotting the i's and crossing the t's is a non-factor....they just demand a 20k commission for their services lol.
***** If you are talking just the city itself no suburbs included, Houston has 600+square miles to L.A.'s 500 square miles but that doesn't tell the real story. If you're talking the L.A. metropolis vs Houston metropolis...no comparison...L.A. is much bigger. The L.A. metropolis has nearly 35,000 square miles, which is the largest urban area in the U.S. in area, and one of the biggest in the world. The Houston metropolis is around 8,000 square miles. Houston is large...L.A. is enormous. Houston has a lot of open land compared to L.A....it doesn't feel as big as L.A. I've lived in both metros, and L.A. not only feels bigger, it is bigger.
houston sq miles is bigger than la sq miles fact , plus houston has more to offer with jobs . have you read FORBES HOUSTON # 1 in the usa . la sells dreams , houston has big oil money
***** Yes, as I said, comparing just the city limits(no suburbs included) Houston has more square miles, but comparing Greater L.A.(suburbs included) vs Greater Houston(suburbs included), L.A. is much bigger.
I have never been to the city; however, judging by the way certain people spell and express them self here, I deduct that they are not well educated. That been said, I cannot consider their opinion.
Houston 2013 = High crime...no matter where you live, even affluent areas (RiverOaks, Memorial Villages, Upper Kirby) are getting hit. The incompetent police department can not keep up. Before you rent an apartment, make sure you learn as much as you can about the landlord sided Texas Laws, or your credit will pay dearly due to landlord abuses. Looking for good quality living, this may not be the place for you. Attending UOH main campus? ... watch yourself on campus and surrounding crime hood !!
