It's really not a secret that books are being banned. Books with great significant historical value have also been banned, like Maus. If the people in power don't want you to read something and is actively trying to stop you from reading it, then it's generally a good idea to find yourself a copy and read it.
Lol we saw the books being banned as many of these school board meetings were livestreamed. People from No Left Turn In Education, Patriot Mobile, MassResistance and Moms For Liberty were posing as parents and fear mongering about books they didn't like.
@@DarkPassenger And why should we let these groups, who very clearly are pushing an agenda, decide what is apt for children and what isn't? If "Moms for Liberty" actually promoted liberty, they'd advocate for KEEPING these books in school libraries. If we are to lead the world in education, we must ensure that our kids have a wide variety of content to choose from and digest.
Students should be encouraged to pick up books that he/she wants to read. I read books and I read books in school as well. My mother never told me that I couldn’t read books that I brought home or picked out outside of school. My mother never discouraged me from reading books that I chose myself. My mother also picked out books for me at Barnes & Noble. I think banning books in schools is just dumb. Students should be encouraged to find books that they will enjoy reading just for the fun of it.
Elementary/High Schools have the right to decide what books they will/won't allow in their libraries. Parents are free to take their kids to their local public library if they are okay with their kids having/reading books not allowed in elementary/high school. Public libraries shouldn't have the right to ban, or keep out, any book wanted by anyone visiting the public library.
lets be clear ... there is no book banning ... there is just books not allowed in schools and in library due to the graphic and inappropriate nature of the subject. if there was a real book banning you would not be able to get the book anywhere but if you want these clearly sexually inappropriate books you can go to any book store or go online and get them.
Obviously yes, you can order literally any book on the internet. They arent gonna check mail if the book is banned or not, they only care about stuff taht is actually harmful like explosives, drugs etc.
But like kids should not be reading books from schools with sex in them! A number of those books have pure smut, I've heard the reading before school boards. I love reading, value knowledge, certainly don't want books to be banned. But school is not the place for children to access books with depictions of sex acts! Why does that seem like a hot opinion today?
What books are you looking at I have never seen books that have depicted smut or even picture of sex acts only book you can only get those kind of book from an outside source
This is already a thing though, when I was in elementary school the entire school library consisted of Judy B, Spiderwick, Animal books. Middle school was autobiography (that no one touched), Percy Jackson and others but literally zero smut and no sex depiction. In high school they had slightly questionable book, that were actaully good for high-school age and at that age it is appropriate to have young adult books. If anyone is lying to themselves thinking high-schoolers don't already know something written in a book with the entire internet at their finger tips for the last 15 years is living a fantasy.
As a young beggining author,I would do anything to keep my animal conservation books from being ban thought I actually "self-ban" them from China,Japan, Korea,Vietnam and Thailand mostly because they're top 5 countries of Animal cruelty so they don't deserve any!
Reminds me of that dystopian sci-fi novel where the authority destroyed books What was the title of that book? I can't remember, I don't think it's 1984, I think it's a Kurt Vonnegut novel 🤔
If a kid really starts getting into books at 8-9 years old (3rd-4th grade) then they only have to wait 9-10 years until they turn 18... It's not that traumatic..
Well there are certain books I don’t think should be in public schools. Guess what book I read in 7th grade? I read The Godfather. And holy cow at the time I was enjoying it. But as an adult I am like shocked that it was available to a middle school kid and probably shouldn’t have been. Very graphic and not just violence, the sex as well.
Uhh, school districts keeping books out of schools isn’t the same as banning them. You can literally buy a copy of any of those books anywhere in the United States.
This got the same energy as "we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing" Maybe there's a reason these books were removed, maybe it's topics aren't appropriate for children of those ages? Of course not it's gotta be because of 'isms, right?

Those "banned" books are still available for anyone to buy anywhere. They're just not in the schools for children.....now do you understand?
@DarkPassenger removing books is banning books. Keep your nonsense talking points to yourself

@@Park_Place I agree! I want my kids to have Hustler in their school library. Who are these moms, to say otherwise?

I read 1984 near the end of elementary school. i can see why they would want that book banned remember friends big brother is always watching

Maybe you should look into the books that were removed from the schools. I'm not sure you'd want your 5-8 year old reading them....

George Orwell wrote a book about this. I would say read it, but it probably won't be in your local library for long😊

Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 irl?
Nothing good ever comes from banning, limiting, or censoring information
