- “Reach Out to Jesus” is one of Ralph’s classic songs, here performed by the Velvetones with Ralph’s arranging. It’s from their 1968 LP “The Smooth Sounds of the Velvetones.”
I was 12 years old when I was first introduced to The Velvetones at an Audrey Mieir Monday Night Sing-A-Long at Faith Center in Glendale, Calif. My family knew Jerry Pippin, the pianist. Pam & Alice (The Morales Sisters) had voices that could melt butter and your heart. They were Audrey's favorite group and they sang her songs like no one else could. To me, their most beautiful interpretation of one of Audrey's songs, "So Soon It Is Over", was always glorious and it brought the entire congregation to tears with its simplicity and yet complex harmonies. I still play their 2 albums--now 53 years later and still get goose-bumps. Pam and Alice have since passed away but what a treasure trove they left behind. I WOULD LOVE TO FIND ANY VIDEOS OF THE VELVETONES. I am Audrey Mieir's archivist and aside from the 2 LP's, we have no video except one from KHOF TV. If you can offer any help in this, I would be grateful. As the youngest member of The Audrey Mieir Choir, I had a front row view of those glorious Sing-A-Longs. I stood maybe 5 feet away from Audrey while she'd play the piano as the choir sang. I loved watching her very small hands and her HEART SHAPED DIAMOND wedding ring.
