Tal saw the game different then the rest if us. Fisher is my favorite, but Tal in a class alone. If I could play like anyone and see the game like anyone, it would be Tal.

I had forgotten about this game. I remember when it was analyzed at the time and what struck me was how Kasparov strangled Karpov's kingside development. Great choice dawg.

Best queen sac mating attack of all time (IMHO): Eugenio Torre vs. Jan Timman, 1982, Slav Defense.

John, or anyone, could you please explain what white's continuation would be at 4:59, after the hypothetical continuation--Black plays Bg7, White plays Bf7+, Black plays Kf8, and then White plays Bh6. What is white's continuation if black simply plays Bh6? Black's king is horribly exposed, which is never good, especially against Tal, but I don't see a clear way to increase the pressure (i.e., to continue the attack). If white replies with Qh6+, it seems as though White now has only his Queen for the attack, which obviously is insufficient, and Black's pieces, including his queen are close by to assist in defense. Thanks John for a great channel, and to you or anyone else that has a good answer to my question. 🙂

Somewhere along the line it seems like Bf5 would have been a very useful defensive move.

hard not to go for sac lines when they look good even though they may not be 100% sound

Why not Kh8 instead of Kf8 @4:56, then after Bxh6, move Qf8? Or even if Kf8, Bxh6, Bxh6, KxB, then how does White make progress?

Really like your stuff John, please keep it up, especially all the Bobby stuff. I think he is the GOAT given how he destroyed the Soviet Empire of chess all by himself--didn't trust anybody but that is another story!

I too play like that Tal sometimes, but usually my opponent doesn't understand the brilliancy of my piece sacrifice and just take it without any compensation. Very weird.
