Lawsuits are incredibly expensive, and not just monetarily. The mental and emotional stress is intense. And that's before you realize that judges aren't what you think they are, and it is likely the last thing you'll achieve with the courts is anything that remotely resembles "justice."

As somebody who recently got out of a joke lawsuit it can be incredibly expensive financially, mentally, and physically. It cost me 6 years and approximately $80,000. Good luck to you and don't let it get you down.
And that's why I like not being American. If we are threatened by bogus lawsuits (which happens a lot working property development where we often unmask some very rich people as scammers and conmen), we get to reply with veiled insults, fun-poking and challenges to go through with it. Most of them turn out to be full of hot air, and if they don't it only costs a couple hundred to counter-file, pretty much guaranteed win and across a decade of stepping on some very long toes with some very deep pockets, by my count we must've made over € 30K countering bogus lawsuits, which is also tax-free.
The only threat is if they claim it's about € 99999999999 million damages, the court fees for both sides are based on that. If you forget to counter-file the amount they claim you can get hit with € 6K- € 7K fees just to fight it. I forgot that once against a 250K claim and it cost me some 5K extra fees, making it the only civil case on which I ever lost money.
It's of course not quite that easy: There's strict rules to logging your costs and if you don't follow those your damages claims get dismissed as unproven, and punitive damages are near non-existant here.
On the plus side, there's 'legal costs insurance' here which costs roughly € 8 per month (aka 30 minutes work on minimum wage) with which a private individual is decisively protected against malicious civil cases: The insurance bear all the costs to defend something and part of the costs to (counter-)attack.

It still amazes me that in light of all the issues with Acerthorn's case that they are even going to a court at all. Something like this should've been thrown out day 1, and it's a failing of the legal system that this ass hat can drag you into debt like this.
Yeah the system has been broken for a long time and the ones in charge of it refuse to do anything about it because it doesn't cost them money, it just makes them money.

i find it absolutely absurd that the IRS can claim nearly half of that money as a tax fee.
I hope UA-cam gets rid of his channel, and bans him. He has gotten out of control, killed another channel, and almost killed Creetosis channel again though him abusing the DMCA, and lying to the copyright office about his old videos being unpublished works to try to take people down.
Recently hes been threatning Creetosis again to try to sue him, and get his personal information, this will never be over for a long time.
At the very least UA-cam needs to be forced to clean up and fix its DMCA system. And make it so a counter claim does NOT involve self Doxxing UNLESS it goes to court.
And also UA-cam needs to be FORCED to stop using AI for copyright issues. PRECISELY because of little pieces of ship like Asser Thorne in everyone’s side!

Yes, as others mentioned he is pro se, meaning he is representing himself, and in forma pauperis, refers to the ability of an indigent person to proceed in court without payment of the usual fees associated with a lawsuit or appeal.
Basically claiming he's too poor to cover the costs of bringing forward a lawsuit.

What angers me is you're having to come up with all this money and yet Acerthorne, the loser who started this entire circus fiasco in the first place doesn't have to pay a single penny. If that's not proof that the legal system is broken (doesn't feel like we can call it a "Justice" system anymore) then I don't know what is!
It certainly sounds like it's easy to exploit. I thought he'd get punished properly cause it's obvious he's a lunatic.
The phrase is "pro hac vice". It's local counsel that is required to basically act as the professional for local rules (read: state) and is mandatory if an attorney representing a client is not licensed in that state. It's nothing new, pretty much every state (in fact I think every state) requires it, because they don't want an attorney from, say, Texas coming in and trying to apply Texas law to Califfornia, because all he knows is Texas. That being said, yeah, it's going to be expensive because you're shelling out for two law firms at that point instead of one.

he knows this and exploits it... he should be banned from launching lawsuits without extra scruitenty of somesort.

This is an unusual case but not one without options.
Given Acerthorn is an indigent person, he has no assets that may be claimed and can slink away from paying any legal fees associated with this. *However,* there's tertiary parties that may be dragged into this and held accountable that may be worth consideration such as his ISP and the person providing housing to him.
This could be possibly solved by simply sending a cease and desist to the ISP to state that their services are being used for illegal purposes, which would effectively cut off Acerthorn's access to the internet and thus the means to submit these fraudulent lawsuits. Similarly, by threatening to involve the landlord in legal proceedings due to his actions, the threat in of itself may be enough to result in the eviction that sticks.
While these won't get your money back, presuming the ISP and landlord do the right thing and absolve themselves of responsibility for him, it'll at least be a definitive preventative measure against his further abuse.
I don't know man, he might go into a mass stabbing spree if his internet went out.
Flipside would be that Asserthorne in everyone's side would FINALLY be arrested and charged for his complete and utter idiocy@@ThrashMetalWolf666

In fact, there seem to be people who sue you but would settle for a bit less than you defending yourself and handily winning the case, because "reasonable attorneys' fees" and court costs are not automatically or even customarily ordered to be paid by the losing party. The "no win, no fee" attorneys do not ameliorate that if you need to defend yourself. Not a great law system ...
