She reached out a hand, and touched his face, not coldly like he would've expected, but with the gentleness of a lover in the springtime. She wound a strand of his long hair around her finger. When he opened his eyes, light gleamed off both the sword she held and a single tear, which carved pain into the emotionless canvas of her face. "For what it's worth," he said, "I loved you." "I think I might've loved you too, in another world. But I cannot in this one." She leaned forward and kissed him for only a moment, then raised her blade. The two figures are silent in the dark room. Then she speaks, her voice low. "Tomorrow I execute the King." "I know," he murmurs, lashes lowered, slowly tracing her fingers with his. "And I suppose you will do your duty as the crown prince. Protecting His Majesty and the throne." "Of course." "I won't side with you." "I know," he breaths. "If you stand against me," "You know I must." "...then I must kill you." "That, I cannot return back." He kisses her hand. "But do it if you must."
