***TRY THIS FIRST!*** Blow really hard into the space just around the volume button, on/off button, and base button. This will often remove enough dust to stop the crackle ... then you don't have to disassemble anything!
THIS! I just did this with a can of compressed air (i.e. - Keyboard cleaner) and it worked, thank you so much! Not all heroes wear capes!
Damn it worked for me. Thanks man!
I tried the simplest method of removing the volume control knob, retaining nut and washer. Sprayed a tiny amount of WD-40 in, gave it a couple of minutes while I worked the volume control and it was perfect. Thanks for the video @Techscrew, and the revision by @Rob
I did the same today, WD-40 on both control knobs, no more cracking noise. WD works wonders
In most cases that does only fix it for a day or so, then the crackling is back. Been there, done that. At the end only opening the case as in the video is the effectful solution.
Just watched this tutorial today and fixed my potentiometer on this same set of speakers. Thanks so much, my wolume knob works again!
Excellent, thanks for feedback 👍
I see what you did there
I have a version of these speakers and now have a ticking sound almost as if it is static. I will try this and see if I can remove the tick. Thanks, great video
Thank you so much for taking to time and trouble to post this. I love these speakers and the crackle was driving me mad. Mine was super loud when turning the volume up. I was surprised the lubricant managed to get inside it but it definitely did as the physical resistance decreased hugely and the problem has now completely gone!....Thank you sir. Love the video and the humour too. First Class!
Thank you! I've been listening to that awful crackling for a year now. Thought my speakers had be replaced and now they work perfect!
Thanks for feedback
Ive had this issue with various brands of speaker volume controls. It's the metal contacts that are dirty or rusty from moisture in the air. Clean with wd 40 or rubbing alcohol and then lube it up with some motor oil. No olive or cooking oil.
If there's still crackling, clean some more and repeat the steps.
Great video... But, I really have to say this.. Please, anyone who tries/does this repair, do not use pliers as a 'universal' spanner - Never actually! Remove the volume control with a 10mm socket and the bass/tone knob with a 7/16' socket. Also try not to use a really small flat-tip screw driver as it will damage the housing as you can see in the vid with any part. Using a plastic wedge/spudger is all you need. The volume knob is tricky but if you do need to use a metal item, wedge a rag in the same time with the flat tip (minimum 5mm wide tip and thin if possible) which will prevent damage. Lucky you don't need to remove the power button but you should depress it first before trying to remove the PCB as this will make it easier to slide out and yes as he noted, make sure the power is off and unplugged! There will still be a bit of charge left in the caps when you unplug it so, turn it on then, back off again (unplugged) as you will see the light go on then off which discharges any short that may occur if you need to solder or just in general. Dis-connect the stereo jack too if you haven't already.
My volume control was actually faulty since new and never took it back as I was lazy and/or forgot as the potentiometer was never clamped together properly but cleaning it helped until it starts crackling again where I will have to replace it. Only about $5AUD so I am not worried or I will make an external control unit using optical making it surround with a remote as this system is very bassy and amazing!
Cheers!
wow, thanks for soo detailed comment :)
Thanks for the details, helps
Not only is this super helpful but your personality makes it enjoyable to watch. Loved the "if your grandmother allows you to" and "if you're younger than 18" parts lol. Great video.
thanks for so sweet comment :)
Mine have started to crackle and I have the exact same model. Thank you 👍
Glad it helped
I'm not a tech guy, but with your help Techscrew, my speakers are back to life :) Thank you !
Great to hear!
Well done bro.. liked.. I don't have a dedicated cleaning solution at hand. Will 99% isopropyl alcohol or normal WD 40 do the job to clean the potentiometer/volume knob?
Dont risk, buy special cleaning spray.
simpler method that i discovered without opening it is to hold the volume tightly (without breaking it lmao) then rotate it aggressevily lol trust me it will work but not too hard
Did not expect this to actually work, but this worked for me! Thanks!
ahhaa no problem@@lfvdk1
This fixed my problem too. Lol!!
First time I ever found a comment on a tutorial which actually made everything easier. (And not just the beginning of an answer to an additional problem the video didnt adress haha)
Wow yeah that worked lol
This works for a few weeks, so we need to repeat the process. But it works!
Great ! And what a nice friendly voice !
Thanks
This worked, but I had to apply the chemical a dozen times. I had previously tried a partial teardown with WD-40 and it helped but didn't resolve the issue and it got worse over time. This was the solution, they work perfectly now.
Thanks for your video. No more crackling sound and intermittent power issue solved.
Awesome!!!
Glad it helped
@Techscrew I forgot to add that you made me laugh hard when you talked about asking my grandma which was dad for me as he let me tinker with my first electronic components when I was about 10 being intrigued himself on a 240v electric typewriter not knowing it was plugged whilst sticking a screwdriver around haha. Been electrocuted more times than a cat has lives but I always wear thongs which must save me lol.
Thanks for feedback 😁
I love this video - you sound like Gru from the Minions which I love - I wasn't sure at first but I asked my Grandmother and she confirmed ;-)
So cool! Thanks :)
Wow, I have this exact Logitech speaker for my PC and the exact same problem lol Thanks to this video I somehow managed to fix it and make the crackling sound while adjusting the volume go away. I didn't even have to open it, I just kept turning the volume knob back and forth and the problem disappeared!
Glad I could help!
Working perfectly so far, thank you.
Awesome! Thank you for your clear demonstration of the procedure.
Thanks.
@@TechscrewsHI BRO IM FROM INDIA🙏 Z-623 SATELLITE LEFT SPEAKER DRIVER SIZE? HOW MUCH WATT AND OHMS SUPPORT AND SATELITE SPEAKAR WOOFER OR DRIVER FULL RANGE OR MID RANGE ? PLSS ANSWER ME 🙏
It worked for me, thanks for the video. Mine also had a problem that the speaker would turn off and on without me doing anything (also making bloody loud noises at night. I had to turn it off every night lol). Spraying WD-40 inside the pcb power button fixed the problem.
I sprayed with WD40 and its workin normal , you dont need to take it apart the whole thing ,just take off the volume knob ,
thanks for tip :)
did you also take off the retaining nut and washer? Is it still working good? my crackle always is right at the volume level I use speakers at and its sooo annoying so I want to try this by just removing the knob and WD40
@@derekdrozdzak no need , just volume knob, it will go inside by itself , still working after 2 months
thanks for the video. i have the issue on the power button, the power is flickering with cracking noise and i have to press softly sometime to keep it power on. do you know what is the part no. that i can replace it?
Can you use Isopropyl alcohol to clean it?
you can try, but better use special spray.
@@Techscrews It works. I used it (Isopropyl alcohol) an my speakers work perfectly now. Great video for giving me the idea. Cheers!
@@destructionmedia3845 thanks for feedback
Used 99% Isopropyl alcohol and it worked for my Logitech Z313.
I Have the same issue with the power button, the crackle is visualised in the led flickering and sometimes losing sound from the left or both speakers. I would say also apply the lubricant to the power knob?
Lube will not fix the power issue! This may be a cause in the power cable itself or a dry-joint on the PCB (Solder separation [rare]). Both speakers losing sound highly indicate a bad stereo jack connection from PC or where-ever you have it connected but, if you are losing sound, the ON/Off light is flickering AND you are getting cracking at the same time from any adjustment then, it most certain likely to be a loose wire in the PCB connector or earth wire. IF it is cutting on and off randomly without touching anything, then this may likely be a loose connection in the subwoofer housing. These are just some of the most common issues I have worked with and found. Good luck if you are still having this issue and Happy new year!
@@LegendaryHorse3075 Thanks! I've been procrastinating but i'm finally gonna fix it this weekend.
@@TsjernoKid Real easy to do where the only difficult parts is to remove the volume knob and being cautious around the wiring. The (black) earth wire is permanently soldered in which was barely hanging on with my system so I just removed it and re-soldered making it heaps easier to clean everything. The main (white) JST plug is glued into the adapter but can be removed easily once the glue has been peeled off but be very careful as the wires in that plug are a nightmare to fix if you pull one of them out! Good luck :)
@@LegendaryHorse3075 i have the same issue on the power button, do you know the part no. that i can replace it?
I'm sorry I do not as I didn't replace the button but only cleaned it with Contact Cleaner which is still working well to this day. But make sure you do try and isolate off the other parts if using a spray or use a cotton tip with some isopropyl alcohol. @@yesmanhk
Heck no, I would destroy my speakers if I did that. LOL, But for anyone who has that handyman soul, it might be an excellent solution. I just resorted to blowing air really hard into the nobs and just moving the dials repeatedly while the speakers were off, and that has fixed it for me as well.
Just an update , the 2 potentiometers I ordered are still in route from China, the customs spent lots of this time.
Keep in mind that when they do arrive I will still need to replace them in my Logitech 623 s and test .
It works ,Thank for the video
Thank you, what a friendly voice! would WD40 suffice as a contact cleaner or is that bad to use on potentiometers?
it is better to use a specialised potentiometer cleaning spray
@@Techscrews thank you so much, i'll find one !
Thanks for the info, helped me repair!
What cleaner should i use?
In contact with them they searched their database , Now stuck in wait mode as they contact someone with more knowledge on the subject but I have found a few possible replacement pots Witth B103 Tone POT.
and another possible replacement for the A104 Volume pot.
Thank you!! :-)
Does WD-40 works with that kind of work ?
Never heard about these " contact lubricants " prior to that.
not sure, better use special potentiometer cleaner sprays. They are not expensive but effective.
I also had problems with volume knob on my Komplete Audio 1 interface and I used wd-40 and it solved the problem.
Sir . I have a Logitech z623 sub .i don't the side spkears. Can i make a volume system for the sub and add 2 other speaker with it
On mine the 3 knobs and the orange light work, but not sound comes out. The left one is fine. Anything I can do Techscrew?
hello can u say me the Potentiometer Logitech z623 Speaker what is the model to buy?
tHANKS ALSO WORKS FOR logitech z506
where can i get this spray cleaner what else will work ? I am really tired of the loud crackling sound when i touch my volume control ..?
Try bike engine oil
My power button is janky. Anyone know if there is a fix for that too? Fantastic and informative vid btw!
just find new and resolder.
Hello Techscrew people.
Like other Logitech Z636 users, I am having problem with the power button.
I've tried putting the cleaning sprey on, but it's not working anymore.
Could you tell me which button should I buy to replace the original one?
i need get to repair the logitech with that defect.
how do you remove the side of the circuit board with the power button and headphone jack at 1:35? I can't seem to get it open as easily and I'm afraid of breaking it.
i was able to get it out by stretching out the plastic on the side of the headphone jack to allow it some more wiggle room.
there's 2 screws underneath the rubber at the bottom. one screw on top from under the plastic cover that says THX. Then four hex screws at the front. Dont forget to remove the nuts under the volume button and base buttons
the poti for Volume by the z625 is the P0925N-FC20AR100K but its so expensive to order it 5€ for poti but 30€ shipping wtf. i hope the 3rd time of cleaning solve the problem with antistatic pcb cleaner
The fact that this video has over 24k views, goes to show how common this is.
hey, i have the Z625 (as far as im aware theyre pretty much the same), and my right speaker is very quiet and has distortion. How do i figure out if its the speaker itself thats broken or if there is an electrical issue somewhere?
Remove speaker and connect it to other amplifier, if it works fine, problem is on logitech system, if it has distortion also on other amplifier, that speaker is broken.
@@Techscrews do i have to desolder the speaker wires?
@@Techscrews I connected it to a different sound system, and the speaker works perfectly fine. Where do i go from here? What do I check?

I replaced them and posted there Locations online but as Usual Censored by youtube.
I went to shop and asked for ''special'' lubricant. The man behind the counter looked at me and winked with a smile. Now I'm too embarrassed to go back. Plz help!
You need find some special electronic diy part shop or buy on internet.
This happens with all audio knobs. I can't believe you opened it and took all that time to work on the inside. This problem will show up every year or so from dust, and you don't need chemicals to fix it. Not to mention, chemicals could eventually make the problem worse and reduce the life of the potentiometer. You just need to turn the knob slowly all the way from left to right and back again about twenty times while the system is off. The dust inside will then be pushed to the ends eliminating loud pops while in use.
This tip not always work.
@@Techscrews Sure, If it's been many years and you think it would be a benefit rather than leaving it dry. I would just avoid all that work and distress unless it was absolutely necessary for continued use.
For those of you with Soldering skills I am Searching for the right Component s for these
Did you find it ?
I have always thought that the "THX" part is a discant speaker element :D Lol, what a scam there.
I really don't know what it would be doing. Do you also think that Ronald McDonald lives in the Golden Arches?
That's simply a partner brand printed on an air port. THX is a stamp of quality assurance in multimedia, and it has nothing to do with the parts used to build the product. They test for reproduction standards, ensuring your movie sound is reproduced as accurately as possible. They test acoustics, and building architecture can also be branded THX certified. It is definitely not a scam, you want your products and services to be THX certified. It's a stamp of approval in the industry.
@@senselessconsensus You completely missed my point there. Speaker looks like a two way speaker = general speaker + discant speaker. However, it has only one full range element and what looks like a discant speaker is only a holder for plastic logo.
@@CandleMan5 Oh, I see now, it's hiding a screw. I never thought it was anything important, but at the very least I assumed it was a hole. I never watched the whole video because I already know how to fix them without taking them apart. You made it sound like THX was assumed to be either the part it's printed on or some other electrical element. I don't think they would need the smaller speaker you thought it was, since the frequency profile of the main should suffice. The kind of tweeter you're looking for is typical of 6-8 inch monitors. These satellites are too small to require crossover compensation. But I understand what you mean by it looking like one. That's pretty typical of audio products tv's cars etc. Just be glad they aren't trying to attract younger customers with rainbow colors. The real question now would be: how did he know it was hiding a screw? Plenty of scratches though.. Also, I don't think you're using that term correctly, I've never heard of a "discant" speaker nor are there any results from a search. The word means a voice above or removed from others and usually spelled descant, which is accurate, but in the states we call them tweeters or horns depending on the size.

it's not logitech's problem, all analogue sound regulators (potentiometers) have this problem when the contacts oxidise over time
