Tolkien did not invent all of the names - he found them. Gandalf means basically Wand - Elf he used this name first for the Dwarven King in the Hobbit (later Thorin) but later changed this as he realized the meaning of the name. Most names of the Dwarves and some of the Elfs he found in an old List, which captures dwarven names in norse mythology.

Remember how back in season 1, the defenders of this show made the argument that Galadriel would start out as arrogant and insufferable, but would gradually grow to be the wise Galadriel we know and love?
The show writers unironically believe that Galadriel has become wise and mature now, as evidenced by the fact that the elves gather around her in a circle to hear her impart her vapid lesson, “Force cannot defeat darkness, only light can.”
PISS OFF!!! SHE DID NOT EARN THAT MOMENT!
Galadriel had NO moment where she acknowledged her errors!
She had NO time to reflect on her failures!
She learned NO lessons and gained NO new insight or wisdom!!
She does NOT get to skip over all that learning and painful reflection JUST TO IMMEDIATELY BECOME some pseudo enlightened leader of the elves!!!!!

Great point and insight... once again this should be show don't tell... galadriel should show how wrong she was, show how her actions led to all these events happening and show her actually give a crap about it, why it matters to her and show that she is trying her hardest to right that previous wrong... THEN and only then could you earn that moment. But remember this is rings of power where characters develop off screen and therefore its up the the viewer to attempt to develop the characters for themselves.
In the lore, by this time, she is well aware of the sins of her youth. Her sins (following Feanor and his host) were in the first age - and destruction that was wrought upon the world at that time were beyond anything Middle Earth ever saw, in all the ages combined after it. In the Second Age, where the show takes part, she is already very old and very humble. At that time, she is one of the very few who ever saw the Light of Valinor and therefore one of the few elves that still has that power and protection in her.
Her entire arc in the Second and Third ages is resisting temptations of power in order to EARN the right to return to Valinor. Which she in the end does. But exactly because she witnessed all the horrors of the First Age, all the kinslayings, all the destruction Morgoth brought with this legions, she would not come close to armor or a sword in the rest of her life. Her being a soldier and a leader of armies in the Second Age goes completely against her character. If they wanted to show her grow wiser, then they should have placed the story in the First Age, not the Second.
She was the Lady of Eregion (she made it, not Celebrimbor), and by the time things are happening in the show, she was isolated in Lorien, making the easternmost outpost where Noldorim were present (though still mainly Nandorim).
Also, elves are immortal. By this point in the history of Arda, Galadriel is thousands of years old. One of the oldest elves alive actually. In fact, she is older than High-King Gil-Galad by a 119 years. She already went through so many things in her life, outlived some of the greatest heroes to ever exist in Arda... her acting young, foolish and arrogant is simply idiotic. She is supposed to be the wisest out of the characters we deal with in the Second Age. The only ones older than her are a few Maiar spirits (Balrog, Sauron, Istari that come in the Third Age...), Cirdan and MAYBE Glorfindel who was resurrected by the Valar (we know he is from the Years of the Trees, like Galadriel, but no the exact year).
Basically, everyone should be looking at her like the wisest of them all, the oldest.
The show completely butchered her character and made her, not even a girl boss, but a brat.
Funny enough, the best character the show has was Adar, and he was completely made up character. Should have been one of the first orcs Morgoth made by capturing and torturing the elves of the First Age, there was some potential in that character. Too bad they screwed him over as well. But, by far, even as retarded as they made him, he was the best thing in this show.
So… villain’s can’t be shown to take away a woman’s agency… Um, they’re villains, so why not?

Villains are only allowed to be "fantasy villainous" so destroying a planet, or raising a zombie army, or torturing their prisoners are all totally fine.
But, villains are far too decent to be misogynist, or racist, or support Trump while doing so.

I saw an interview with a well known author who spoke about the issues with the writing in the show that to me made total sense. He explain that the root of the problems were an extreme difference between the motivations and influences between the show writers and Tolkien. Tolkien was heavily influenced by classical literature, history, and his personal experience in WWI, while the show writers main influences are clearly other movies/media and moral relativism.
Yeah you can tell the writers have not read much written material before the 1960s. I'm skeptical that they read LOTR. I think they skimmed it and did a wiki on the Silmarillion. 90 percent of their inspiration is the films so they're starting one or two steps removed from the source material.
It's George RR Martin's fault. The whole "What was Aragorn's tax policy?" has lead to the injection of modern day politics into what should be fantasy. You're not supposed to try to imagine what life would be like living under Sauron's rule. From what we know about the writers, and what we've seen in RoP so far, Sauron would be as capitalist as possible, setting up a nightmare dystopia where people wouldn't need union membership or work permit to work as a blacksmith.
How TF would you think they are influenced by any literature at all? They just used the name and made it for a modern mind-, heart- and soulless audience that doesn't care about literature at all, except their checklist of BS represantion of the BS world of today.
They people are poisoned by their religion. They can't speak of anything else, they have no interest beside their perverted pseudo religion they promote. They can't create, unlike Tolkien. They can only preach their poisonous beliefs through their media.

And by contrast, in Tolkien's story (he's the guy who writes great literature which is adored by many people the world over) the dwarves DID come to help Eregion.
Dwarves dont know that generals exists and armies do not need royals to march if the royals have to do something else.

The attempt to rip off Sam's speech from the end of the Two Towers was so so bad.

It's funny how the entire season the mask people were trying to capture the Harfoots, but in the last episode they're suddenly captured and we didn't even see it happen. Last we saw of them, they decided to 'fight', what happened to that? Did they lose the fight off-screen?
Also, we didn't see Not Gandalf make the decision to go to the Stoor village instead of trying to find a staff, neither are we told how he even found that village. He is just there now.
It feels strongly as if they filmed a lot more scenes for that storyline, but cut several of them that were supposed to happen between episodes 6 and 8. Maybe they were supposed to be in episode 7, but they later decided that should focus solely on Eregion.
Whatever the case, it feels really clunky.
The whole episode felt like various scenes cut out or reshoot entirely 2 weeks before release.
Just going to say but a battering ram is a very good way for a dwarf to suddenly find themselves buried in tonnes of rock. Like if there's a crack or weakened/weaker section of rock or mineral above your head or the wall you're bashing against. Like it's why mines are so careful with how much wooden support beams they put up. Every inch you take can have a devastasted effect elsewhere so you have to essentially replace what you take. A tiny crack can grow because of all the weight above it, you don't want to disturb a mine too much as it will not give a shit when it turns your brain to mush. You could have given him something a little bit modern like I don't know a hand-drill. A hand cranked-drill seems possible for dwarves to make, very effective compared to a pick.

I know every episode is the worst episode, but this is definitely the worst one. I've never seen someone get 16 hours to bring their vision to life and produce nothing at all.

My sister likes it, but for one she's never read the Silmarillion and for another she doesn't seem to be paying very close attention as she watches it, so the plot holes, bad dialogue, and character weirdness go unnoticed.
They finished all the side plots so quickly it was like they were ending the thing off for good!

Small thing, but I was re-watching LOTR and was surprised how bright it is. I mean most every scene is lit. ROP, everything is so dark. I think they're trying to show mood, but I think what they're really trying to do is hide how terrible their show is, making it difficult to see any of it. Contrast that to LOTR, where even all the battles are brightly lit, yet they still have emotional weight. See how brightly lit the Siege of Minas Tirith is. You can see everything. In ROP, it's constant darkness.
They're copying Game of Thrones. You know, the show specifically made to be the ANTI-LORD OF THE RINGS. The fact they're copying the most hated season of television ever made is lost on them.
The more of this that comes out, the more I'm convinced the Ai writing rumour was true.

The scene with the Balrog and old Durin highlights the incoherence of the show. How did the Balrog know a person was there at the ledge for him to whip out his whip around Durin's leg? The only point was to do a cheap callback to the Fellowship.
I started to wonder that the writers/showrunners couldn't possibly be this stupid and that maybe they were just trolling us. But, then I remembered some "epic fails" videos I've seen and realized that they actually could be this stupid.
When you hire multiple writers with different agendas and do not force them to work together, that is what this show encapsulates. Also probably should add that none of the writers enjoyed the actual books Tolkien wrote. Man am I tired of the entertainment industry destroying great works... Appreciate you and all the others that are going through all the drivel for everyone else!
I really enjoyed Frieren the anime, I binged it all as fast as I could, but I could not find it in myself to review it. It was...smooth...I couldn't find any cracks or creases to dig into for my review. It just flowed through my brain, I recalled every scene. I thought it was well written. I just couldn't analyze it with any relish.
That balrog scene, is the biggest blue ball in the history of blue ball.

Shad - you touched on this but just want to reiterate - they hate the original LOTR because it is based and born out of EUROPEAN lore and mythology - and that sense of unity amongst europeans is a big no - no to their power structure and must be subverted at every chance.
From what I could see in the clip you showed, the Narsil design here is different than the PJ design. The pummel, grip, and the part just above the cross guard are all different.

Brandon Sanderson on his podcast with Dan Wells way back in season one said he got the sense the Balrog was only in it because the higher ups said you've gotta have a Balrog. So the writers had to shoe horn one in. It certainly feels that way. Though if he's giving fellow 'writers' too much credit by assuming its more like studio interference than their own bad ideas I dont know.

I just can't understand, how the orcs switched from supporting Adar to Sauron all of a sudden, maybe I am not that smart or I missed what happened.
I'm pretty sure Galadriel's pointless line about instead of attack or defend, they should "remember that it is not strength that defeats darkness, it is light" is really just her way of admitting that she want's to flash Sauron. It makes as much sense as any other interpretation would.

GoT S8 condensed in just 1 hour and still far worse. Numenor plot: Didn't exist, Pharazon took over 3x times in one season; peaceful orcs/Ardar plot: Doesn't matter Orcs are somehow evil again for no reason; Arondir: Forgot he was stabbed down one scene earlier because of plot armor, dwarves can't support Eregion because Durin has to talk to daddy for 5 minutes, daddy somehow not evil anymore because he saw a Balrog, and best: Elven forest still glowing while rings are away who was needed to save dying forest 1 season ago. NOTHING makes any sense.
It is the main feature of modern writing to disregard logic.
Basically, a respectful modern writer despises logic and sense when creating scripts.
It makes me really sad how it became unpopular.

A powerful dwarf with a ring would be a strong enemy even for a Balrog. It could've been an epic battle, Durin could have done serious damage to it even if he lost, but he decided to just forfeit his live, what a sad show.
To be fair gothmog, the lord of balrogs, commander of morgoths armies gets killed in a 1v1 with an elf.

Now it makes since why they had originally planned to air 7 and 8 together. Not sure how long this episode was but it felt short and pointless.
The king touched the stone that's how he knows who Sauron is. They wish to destroy the religion cause that's what opposes the king's rule.
it's a B-movie for the non-existent "modern audience", with an A-movie budget, and that's an insult to most B-movies. Only a huge tech company with hundreds of billions to spare like Amazon could afford to continue (robotically and soullessly) making more seasons of such a thing. Even the destroyer of franchises Disney would have cancelled this by now. Three more seasons of car-crash viewing to come and it will be forgotten foe ever.
This is what what doing movies/series for established franchises is now. Alien: Romulus, Rings of Power, Deadpool and Wolverine.
They only ask themselves how many references to previous material they can put in there. That coupled with piss poor writing most of the time.
And the worst thing is, too many people eat that shit up.
Not that I hated Deadpool & Wolverine, but the cameos are totally meaningless. Electra and Blade are just in it so people go "Ohhhh". At least in Spiderman No way home, they gave Garfield and Maquire character moments that made it worthwhile for them to be in the movies.

But he can't reveal how he knows who's sauron is because he used the palantir for that! but what's stupid is saying she got help from him while he is miles away!! the biggest problem is the dwarves rings, why would they ditribute them when they know what it does... for galadriel fall, let's say the trees slow her dawn but just the shock from the many branches and the heart wound should have end her... but we all know she can't die here so. i'm already happy that the theory that Adar might be Celeborn is not realized, I got scared for a second they might go with it seeing the setting of the scene!!!

I really feel sorry for the animators and CGI designers. They do great job in many occasions. Sometimes surpassed that of The Hobbit trilogy (which looks like game cinematics most of the time). But the stupidity of the plot and storyline make their works rendered into nothingness.
