- In Pergamos we have the first church so far with grave warning, due to doctrinal matters. It is a curious address in that Jesus commends them for holding to His name and His faith, even when faced with deadly persecution. This is no small matter and such things would obviously come at a great cost, as Antipas is a name known to us for his witness of not bending the knee to evil.
The curious part is when we consider a church with such honorable things, would allow such horrible sin in their midst. It does not say they were all actively participating, but it was allowed, to whatever extent, to be taking place in their fellowship and they were accountable. When worldliness and cultural influences come into the church, terrible fruit will come of it, and that church will be judged, if it continues. It may not be destroyed, but it will be a church in name only, who neither knows Jesus, nor will it be governed by the Holy Spirit.
No wonder Jesus said to he who has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The church in this 21st century should heed what is said to all of these churches, in Revelation 2-3, and its leaders must then take a good long look in a mirror.

I am so blessed you are here. I was also not raised in a church where the approach to the Bible was to teach it chapter and verse. Coming to Calvary Chapel of Cypress as I did in 1985 was a revelation to me that the Bible was intended to be a cover to cover record, and that we could know it, with the assistance of the Holy Spirit.
We are indeed given so much by our Lord, in that He has given us His complete word.
