I've just copied your method and clad a ugly brick wall (a garage built from crap yellow bricks) that encloses our very small garden. Batten with Concrete screws, 100/150mm gravel boards with 51mm Collated nails. Super happy with how it has come out so cheers for the tips! I had a similar issue working top down to line things up with a window/door opening, as I don't have a second fix nailer I used quick clamps to hold the board and spacers up to the one above (which I fixed with a willing helper).
The more you do the horizontal fencing the more I like it. I have a bunch of fence to replace around our back yard (back garden)and no one does horizontal here. My problem is our soil is sand and it takes more substantial posts to support the heavier fence (more structure on horizontal). Not to mention I need to do about 500 feet(150 meters) of fence and three wide gates so I can get the trailer in the back and cars to the shop (shed).... Unfortunately I am in Texas and we don't have sawmills anywhere near us. Just one that I have bought hardwood lumber from which is a 12hr round trip. And yes still in the same state.
Great video...I have a property in Wales with a hideous concrete shed at the end of the garden that was used by it's former owner to house rabbits....clearing that up was like being in a horror movie but that's given me a great idea to smarten the exterior up!
Great video. When you spoke to your Wife you said you were going to cap off the top and also earlier in the video to block light. What did you use and how. Keep up the good work.
Love those baby doves and your concern for them. Last year our shed, (aka my workshop) was out of bounds for nearly 4 months because a Shrike thrush decided it was a good spot to raise not one, but THREE clutches. Good on you, Tim.
Great Vid, it’s just what I need for my neighbours ugly garage wall. I was just wondering why you didn’t stagger the joins, like brick work? I think you mentioned something about putting a trim on the sawn edge, but didn’t show/cover it. And what about the cut ends, do they require some sort of treatment? Thanks in advance.
Hi Tim, hope you are all well. Good job on wall cladding, makes such a difference. Like the Kee Klamp garden furniture, looking forward to the videos. Thanks for sharing. STay safe and keep up the good work. 👍🖖😎🐶🦴🐔🌈
Brilliant video mate. Just planning on doing the same with my walls in garden, just looking to see what size of spacer used between the horizontal boards please. Thanks
Great job yet again Tim. I'm looking to cover up some old poorly rendered walls at the end of the mth. What depth of spacer did you use between the boards please? Keep up the good work 👍🏻
@@TheRestorationCouple and this was exactly what i needed to know! going to start this project this weekend at home in the backgarden, and this was the final piece of info i needed:)
Thanks for the update video! What spacing did you use on the battens? They look closer on this section of wall (600mm centers maybe?) than the previous section that looked close to 1M-1.2M. I'll be using screws for the cladding so obviosuly the less battens the better in terms of visuals but I will have sections extending ~300mm above the wall to raise its height so conscious of wind and strength so thinking the 600mm might be best to go with?
Yeah 600, the first wall was a bit wider. These thicker boards are quite solid compared to if you were using cladding. Otherwise I’d have them ore like 400.
Great video Tim. I was thinking of using similar to clad a block built shed. Am I better fitting them together or leaving a gap between each board? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the Q&A. I watched the first vid and and it was great. I was wondering if you can do the cladding taller than the brick wall? My wall is much lower so I would like more privacy.
Great vid and the product links are really helpful so thank you...am thinking of buying the hikoki nail gun to do a garden project, would you recommend buying both the 1st n 2and fix nailers to install new decking, fencing and a pergola? Also did you do a product review on your hikoki nail gun? Thanks
The Restoration Couple Which gauge nailer did you use in this vid? I’m about to do a slatted garden wall (17 x 44mm slats) and was going to get a nailer for this - Ryobi 16g - as I’ll also be doing some wardrobes/cabinets inside soon... I can’t justify buying 2 nailers (even with man maths) - would a 16g do the job?
Great video as always Tim. Do you know if the Hikoki framing nailer battery is exclusive to the tool? I can't imagine for the life of me it is. You can buy it bare, so that would suggest that it works across the whole battery platform. I'd be amazed if that was the case, but I heard it from a reliable tool guru. KUTGW. 👍🏻💪🏻
Justifying to yourself the reason for buying new tools? New tools are a must surely? Justifying the reason for the purchase to the better half may just be a little more difficult.
When you use a spirit level and draw a line for your nails, do you use a scribe knife or pencil. If so, How'd you go about removing the marks from the rough sawn wood? Fingers crossed for a tip. Love the videos!
What are ya like?? .... You show us the cute baby Doves then DROP the BombShell that they might be dinner for some Raptor over the next couple of days ..... AARRGGHH!! :-)
Hi, did you cover the gap at the top of wall to prevent water getting in behind timber ?

Thanks for the link to the lights, I’ll get some of those! Also loving the Jimmy Somerville look 😂👍
No problem 👍

Going to do this to my block wall with the idea that I might do some bird box’s behind it with some small round entrance holes👍

Would like to know this too please
@@ibniba1207 I’ve finished my cladding this weekend, went with 10mm spacing & really happy with it
@@krisromer9630 Im working on it. Went for about 7/8mm

About 4-5mm. If freshly treated timber that will open up a bit more as it dries.

Great look for the new garden area and to bring everything together with the bbq / fire pit 😎👍
Glad you are using Timco Timmo :). They should make you brand ambassador!
😂
Great idea! I've got an ugly fence to my neighbours side and will definitely copy this idea!
That bench is super cool, what a good idea :-)

Great video
Learnt absolutely nothing from that video, I spent the whole time watching the birds. Now to watch it again for the intended content.
😂 They were still there all day today.
Hi, does anyone know if I can put wooden cladding inside my garage which has breeze block walls please?
Thanks
Hello, this looks great. I have a 20m brick wall which I’d like to clad like this. What timber did you use? Thanks
its all in the q&a video from a week or two back. 👍
Thanks for the Q&A. I watched the first vid and and it was great. I was wondering if you can do the cladding taller than the brick wall? My wall is much lower so I would like more privacy.
No reason why you couldn’t although you need more substantial supports to support the weight and prevent wind damage to the exposed boards
great job, love the fire pit
Thanks 👍 Reveal in full this weekend.
Was just going to ask if id missed the fire pit video 👍
could I do this on a normal brick garden wall?

I don’t have the hikoki 2nd fix as happy with my 18g ryobi for now but even so, less likely to need 16g or 18g for garden work.

Just a faint pencil line soon disappears.

I’ve been on watch don’t worry. They are already getting their flight practice in!
Hi. Great video. Quick question, what saw mill did you source the cladding from.
Thanks
Looks great.
Off-topic but how do you do the time-lapse footage with the camera moving? It’s a cool effect
It’s just shot 4K and then zoomed as ken burns effect in edit.
Can you do thuis against only stone / concrete fencing poles?
Was there a particular type of timber you used for the support beams and actual wood cladding?
Nope just treated fencing softwood.
what do you recommend for the gap between the vertical battens ?
600-800mm max, if they are thick boards like these. Otherwise 400 for thinner feather edge type.
Hi Tim - which sawmill do you use locally? I'm based in Bath. Thanks
I cant find any videos of you building that barbecue table!
That’s because it’s not out until this weekend! 😉 sneak peek on our Facebook page last week
@@TheRestorationCouple thanks. I have a friend who needs to see that video. It would be perfect for his terrace
what arethe fixing you are using to batten the post to the wall.
Concrete screws, 70-80mm I think
Hi mate great videos! What types off timber did you use? Also what lengths? Cheers!
I should have waited until the end of the video before asking 👍
😂 no worries. Usually 4.8m or 3.6m lengths. 👍
Please can you do another video on the Titan petrol strimmer
why cant i see the bbq fire pit video you mentioned? is it not released yet?
This weekend. 👍
I would prefer using screws and not those nails…
Nothing worse than a mic rustle all the way though lol
