personally,i disagree.i thought minus one was beautiful, and adored the CGI myself, although i will always prefer practical effects.and the healing factor is totally lore accurate and kinda always existed tbh.

I'm right there with you on practical effects however I just don't know what practical effects could be up to the task of creating a completely believable Godzilla. Much of my view was colored by my expectations and they were too high but mind you, it was a great Godzilla film and a breath of fresh air compared to the cartoon Godzilla in the legendary movies. If I say it was in my top 3 to 5 that means it's ahead of a WHOLE lot of films.
Perhaps what I wanted was that memorable moment or that emotional stir. I know it's not a highly regarded Godzilla film but I found the storyline of Dr Mafune and his daughter very compelling in Terror of Mechagodzilla and the first meeting of Godzilla and Titanosaurous was brilliant. Titanosaurous was on a rampage and we saw the sun slowly setting and from the darkness came Godzilla to finally stop the unstoppable monster. The music was perfect and even the way the camera panned around. I think of the suicide of Dr Serizawa in the original or the death of Godzilla in Godzilla vs Destroyah and even some of the more emotional moments in Biollante. It felt like Godzilla Minus One had all the pieces of an emotional film but I never really felt moved. Even the 'death' of Noriko was so out of nowhere and almost comical in it's execution that I didn't really feel anything. I think the most emotional moment was probably when Akiko cried for her dead mother but even then it somehow missed the mark for me. These are just my opinions and hopefully Toho will continue to make Godzilla films that are far more grounded in reality than what Legendary is putting out. I still haven't seen Godzilla x Kong and the more clips I see the less I care.

There is a new one coming out in November for $145. My version appears to have jumped in price to like $280 on the secondary market. I paid $140 for it.

I was just as invested in the characters of the 2014 Legendary Godzilla. But after that movie, it's like human characters were an afterthought in 2019 and first Godzilla vs Kong. But this new Godzilla X Kong was absolutely garbage. I did not give a crap about any of the human characters, at all. Minus One was great for me, not perfect, but close enough.

I think my mistake with Minus One was hearing all the praise and expecting perfection. It's a great Godzilla movie but as you said, not perfect.
I've said this so many times. You need to focus on the human characters in a Godzilla movie. The only monsterverse film with any human characters that I cared about was Skull Island, which did quite well despite not having Godzilla in it. I think at this point Legendary is just trying to make enough money to keep the franchise going and I think they feel audiences just want to see Kaiju duking it out.
