I love all the videos you have on the channel so far. Everything you mention on this video is so important! I learned it the hard way, doing the 36 days of type challenge without direction or constraints. Never again! 🙃

what's the range of type of projects I should include to secure junior designer roles in media/ advertising companies ? Right now I do not have UI/ UX or packaging in my project.. because its not as strong. how do you evaluate if your personal project is good enough to include in portfolio. what's the best place to get feedback for free, like a community apart from reddit?
How do you speed up personal projects so you can include in portfolio, but at the same time apply for jobs in the meantime while trying to add more work?

A lot of great questions! I'll try to tackle them as best as I can in a single reply haha
Typically (at least in my experience) with media/advertising companies, usually projects center around a campaign, with a certain goal/look & feel. Depending on what kind of work you like to do, (whether its design, or photography, video, motion, packaging, UX/UI etc.) maybe creating 3-4 smaller spec-pieces that fit within one "campaign" (can be a fake campaign, or you can lift from something existing, or uplift from a local place near you!) That all feels cohesive and able to show that you can tackle different assets within a larger campaign.
I think personal projects can be gut-checked for being used in portfolio if you think it fits within the kind of work you WANT to be doing, has a quality bar that is higher than previous projects you've done, and a bonus if you're able to include process/BTS work with it. And ideally you want to have some kind of descriptor that captures what you were striving for in that personal project, whether it was advancing a skill, practicing something, or trying something new.
The best places to get feedback, in my opinion, are finding slack or discord channels that are generally for creatives and foster feedback, or getting in touch with any mentors you might have, finding emails/social handles of professionals you look up to and their work and asking them politely for specific feedback on a project (social media can be a shot in the dark for responses, but email is a more professional approach for sure.)
LinkedIn is also not a bad spot to at least pose the question "would any professional designers be willing to take a look at one of my projects and give me some feedback?" and see if you get any responses, and take that to DM's or email.
And in terms of juggling creating portfolio pieces while applying for jobs - its obviously important to do both, and diligence in getting whatever new work you want visible up and running should be worked on. If you're in any interviews, you can explain new stuff that you're working on and talk through your work and process - but if they're mostly reviewing virtually, maybe hunker down and get your new work on there to showcase if that's the first impression they get.
Its a tricky order of operations, but sometimes a necessary evil.
Good luck! And I'm obviously happy to take a look at any work you might want feedback on as well!

@@audreyhavey ok thanks! yes if possible could you give me feedback on my portfolio and resume? where can i send it to? on LinkedIn my resume and portfolio application isn't even getting viewed on downloaded at all.. im not sure if its because they use the AI filtering or it just gets lost, or they already picked someone and just put the job posting for fun. Its scary to ask proffesionals for help esp on more public platforms like LinkedIn where everyone and people i know can see what Im posting abt.. and in case its not as good, its heavy judgement. and they might not be free. hmm. Have you done that before?
