  • Widow Pat's, Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon : John Carty (fiddle) & Francis Gaffney (guitar) playing The Dairymaid (Reel 0:00) & The Graf Spey (Reel 1:23), in a recording made for the Geantraí music series on TG4 in 2000. John Carty was awarded TG4 Musician of the Year in 2003.

    That second tune is The Graf Spey reel - a four-part version in D, though sometimes three ~ five-parts in C or D.
    Scottish tune that was adapted into Irish.
    I heard it first from East Coast Canada fiddler, Kim Vincent (PEI & CB, NS). A mentor of mine, RIP Dec. 17, 2009.
    On our second meeting, around Spring 1980 in Cabbagetown, Toronto -- he played it, Five parts in C.
    I recorded it on a $29 cassette recorder, and it's a classic ..
