Long story short, relying in other sources the academics believe that Hildebrand defeats his son and spares his life, but as he is reaching his hand in sign of reconciliation, Hadubrand would throw a trechearous strike trying to kill his father. As a result, Hildebrand has no other choice but to kill his son out of his dishonest and coward behaviour.

Just read through your description of the song. It's a shame that the story is in such great controversy, and has been mistreated so much. It's also unfortunate that it's just another in a long line of old European legends that have been lost/poorly translated/found incomplete. I'm also very curious where the story's comes from. Not specifically the father and son not recognizing each other in battle (I first thought of Oedipus, though that's not what that story is about). I mean the father v. the son. The idea in Western literature of the father and the son fighting during some great conflict occurs pretty regularly. It doesn't always happen as the main conflict of a story, but it is often a driving force for characters or a major plot point. I think the most popular references would be the OT of Star Wars and Oedipus. Having typed all that out, I reminded myself of "The sins of the father are the sins of the son". However, that would really only explain stories like The Godfather, where the son continues the father's legacy. I don't know. It's late and I'm rambling now. It just struck me that this is a pretty common theme, is all, and I want to know more about it.

Oedipus's tragedy is realizing too late that he's killed his father, Luke hears that his father is evil and he nearly dies from the psychological blow it causes... but the entire time vader knew his son was against him, and hoped that he could have him change sides, but saw his son choose death over reunion.
The theme of the father and son meeting in battle without recognising one another reminded me of Matthew Arnold's poem "Sohrab and Rustum", a retelling of an episode from the Persian epic "Shahnameh". A similar tale is told about the Irish hero Cuchulainn and his son Connla.
Mir gefällt die Version von Menhir besser. Unter anderem auch, weil es von Menhir in alter Sprache gesungen wird. Trotzdem schön, dass diese Geschichte besungen wird und so in Erinnerung gehalten wird.
Unrelated, but have you seen the riots in minnesota? I do not understand why other nations see America's demographics, and decide that is what they want for themselves. Other than that, I liked the kind of alterations made to the song. Reminds of of classic rock, very interesting.
