  • In this episode of Hillstream aquarium; Hillstream loaches introduced to river aquarium were finally feeling comfortable in their new habitat. They colored up nicely. Two weeks passed since I added them. I can count only 4 loaches although I added 5 of them so I will assume one is gone. They cleared almost all of the river stones from brown algae and in addition I was feeding them sinking algae wafers which they accepted. In the future I will try to get more Hillstream loaches for this aquarium.

    I really love the way you built this aquarium. Watch it over and over again. You inspired me to take the white cloud minnows for my next (hillstream) tank. Thanks for all the fun and inspiration! I do like the solution you are using to carry the glass panels on top (the acryllic clamps). I tryed to look back but cannot find anything where you bought them. Can you help me out?

    Hey man I was late because it was snowing today so I had to shovel out some snow out of my drive way, anyway great video, very classy.
    It’s nice to see that your loaches aren’t harassing you Corys during feeding time, mine tend to do that.

    Is it possible that the hillstream loaches are nibbling the corys’ barbels? I know they aren’t typically aggressive, but the way they frenzy over the algae wafers could be part of the problem. Maybe blanched cucumber/zucchini slices or strips would provide a wider feeding surface and less competition? Hope those little pandas feel better soon!

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  2 роки тому

      I mean everything is possible but Loaches have really tiny mouth...By observing all of them I never noticed anything similar. I think it is more connected with the 5th loach that disappeared and by that I presume he passed away. Probably he came with "something" although I quarantined all my fish. I will keep an eyes and hopefully it doesn't spread. Cories are still super active and their behaviour is normal it is just the fact they are missing barbels.

    • @Dassenkop
      @Dassenkop 2 роки тому +1

      Relaxing, as usual. I have panda’s on gravel much coarser than you but still rounded. After about a year they still have ‘healthy’ barbels. I was worried at some point but I see them often digging strongly in the gravel so not sure that’s the cause in your case.

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  2 роки тому

      Exactly. I was thinking the same. The gravel I have is small and round. No sharp edges. I guess its either water quality or some kind of bacterial infection. I tested water and all is ok. I will keep an eye and monitor.

    Corys lost moustache becouse you were feeding them theese tablets. Theese are abrasive and designed for plecos. Cory must eat granules.

    • @IMaqua

  • @cedfra3209
    @cedfra3209 2 роки тому +1

    If your sand is made with Quartz it may be the cause of the Cory's Barbels. Quartz is abrasive. Corys need river sand. JBL sansibar is good to for them. Good luck and good editing as usual.

      @@IMaqua Aquarium Glaser in Germany carries several types of stiphodons and other rare hillstream species. They are the best fish importer in the world, from what I've read. I can't link their website in UA-cam comments, my last comment got instantly deleted when I did. Aquarium Glaser is a wholesale company, so your local fish store would have to place an order in with them. If nobody in Croatia is importing those species, it might be worth trying to find a local aquarium store that would be willing to initiate a business relationship with Aquarium Glaser.

    Why do you feed corydoras with algae? They are carnivorius catfish, they need meat.
    If they have need for algae they will find them in the aquarium.
    Nice video as always btw. ;-)

    • @IMaqua
      @IMaqua  2 роки тому +1

      Hej Drzo, cories are omnivores and as such will eat everything. In this instance I tried to see if the loaches will eat algea wafers because some species don't accept dry food. And corydoras just decided to join the party. I try to mix food as much possible, from dry food with spirulina or dry food with more protein, flake food, stick on glass tabs, frozen food, live brine shrimps, etc...Variety is key. And I guess with that much variety everyone in the aquarium should be happy. Actually they eat better than me haha. Pozdrav.
