  • PART 1 - Let's go to the Nashville sports card show in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday, July 5, 2024.
    The TripleCrown24 UA-cam channel is focused around one dealer's journey through the hobby via card shows, discourse with fellow hobbyists, and grading submission reveals. Today's video recaps the buy/sell/trade transactions from my most recent card show.

    It all comes from Card Collector 2.He will ask do you have any room at every show at every table. So it’s perfectly acceptable in the hobby. Remember the customer is always right.

    My Son and I went to a small 80ish table ahow this weekend here in Hurricane ravaged Houston. It was crazy to me that the flippers, kids, repackers were there! Half the city was 5+ days without power, but that didn't affect the bargain hunters. I was able to pick up a Mcgwire Dynasy and Micah Parsons RC Auto for decent prices.

    I love this content. Very refreshing to see fellow dealers who are faced with the same problem and how they’re approaching it. As a dealer, I’m no longer offering a percentage off. I have been averaging the last couple of comps and taking off a few bucks here and there. I get complaints, but I also get buyers because some cards are tough to find.

    I understand your “issue” but it sounds like you’re whining that people aren’t saying “well the comps are…”. Isn’t this better. I feel like it’s semantics, because everyone wants the best price. I like your videos and the counter was funny, but I think it’s better that people are asking this instead of just trying to tell you what the value or price of your card should be. Just my opinion.

    • @TripleCrown24
      @TripleCrown24  Місяць тому

      Thank you for your comment. I certainly prefer this over people trying to "educate" me on what my cards are worth if I had to choose between the two. My intention was to point out a couple of things. First, it's interesting to me how a lot of these guys ask the same question, the same way, with the exact same approach and largely the same cards. Second, the room or best price questions are tedious after awhile. If I didn't have anything priced, that would be one thing. However, everything is clearly labeled with a price sticker asking what I would like to be compensated for my card. I joke with a few friends that I don't put the price stickers on there to make my showcase look colorful and pretty lol.
      Basically, as a dealer, I would prefer if someone just makes their offer. If they want to make money off the cards, that's their prerogative after we shake hands and I send them on their way with their new cards. What I don't want to do is concern myself with leaving them enough "meat on the bone" to profit off of the cards. The only time I consider that is when I am walking a show and approaching a dealer's table on my own initiative. I should've explained that better in the video, perhaps in a separate one at some point in time.

    isn’t that the point to try and make money off the cards. It’s supposed to be everybody gets a little wiggle room no one is tryna pay full comps or the average of 5-6 sales when your average is higher then the last 2 recent sales or even at full comps. I have nothing against you Or any other dealers I just don’t understand why dealers get upset about people asking cheaper prices bc isn’t that what you do ask for cheaper prices to sell higher. Everybody has to make money or else the people buying at comps are losing on every single purchase they make and every single time they trade or sell they make they are losing even harder. Just my thoughts

    • @TripleCrown24
      @TripleCrown24  Місяць тому +1

      Sports cards are a hobby for the vast majority of people. Almost everyone has to sell at some point, but there are collectors out there who are buying cards for the sake of owning them, not to make money off of them. Sure, they don't buy them hoping they go to zero. At the same time, they aren't motivated by money.
      I don't mind if someone makes money off my cards or asking for a discount. What they do with them after they purchase them is none of my business. What I do take exception to, though, is when people come up to my table and make it my problem that they need to make money off of my cards. All of this when I'm the one who put in the time, effort, and costs to come set up at these shows (they are not free). Yet if I come up to them looking to buy, they aren't giving out the same discounts they are asking for. I say that because it's happened to me many times.
      Unfortunately, there are going to be people who lose money. If everyone buys at or below the last sale, that only makes the problem worse since no card would ever increase in value. For those who don't care about the cards or the hobby, that's no problem. Maybe I'm lame or whatever, but I really care.

    Tbh if you’re really annoyed about the do you have room question you should just put a big sign that says all of your prices are firm. No one is going to come to a table and not negotiate. You would do the same thing as a seller on the other side. No point blasting people who are asking if you have a room and doing basic negotiations. Love the channel but thing it doesn’t make sense tbh.

    • @TripleCrown24
      @TripleCrown24  Місяць тому

      Perhaps I presented it in the wrong way or should've clarified. My issue is not with the question itself or someone inquiring if I am flexible on my pricing, it's a fair ask. The issue I have are those who complain they don't have enough "room" to make money off of my cards. I don't care what anyone does with a card they bought from me after they purchase it, to each their own. If they flip it, good for them.
      However, the "room" question is almost always followed by one of my pet peeves. I get educated on what the last one went for even though I already know and usually they are looking for the lowest sale they can find. I get told there's not enough meat on the bone for them, which would be understandable if they were a dealer I was approaching but that's not the case. They want to put the burden of them making money on me lol.

    • @JBCards-nn9zi
      @JBCards-nn9zi Місяць тому

      It is not the responsibility of the dealer to leave meat on the bone for buyers. What they do with the cards after purchasing them is entirely on them.

    • @michaelrennicke2156
      @michaelrennicke2156 Місяць тому

      The question itself is trying to get the seller to negotiate against his/her best interest. That isn’t fair if the dealer/seller has already taken the time to price his/her cards. That is the starting point. Now if you don’t have your cards priced and don’t know their value. Then you should expect those types of questions. It’s a buying tactic that’s used. As a seller you have to answer appropriately enough to not counter your sticker but rather a legit offer from a buyer.

  • @JG-nz3kp
