    Jake, if you say you have no selling/marketing tricks, I don't think that's true. You have the best trick, and that's being honest and open about your work. Specially by filming it you can show anyone who doubts, how good of a job you do. And the right people do appreciate good work and honesty!

    • @4.0gpa44
      @4.0gpa44 Місяць тому +1

      @@Eddiehal.l Maybe a bit. I'd always recommend using something in addition to a lanyard when cutting, like a rope wrapped around the tree and choked off in a running bowline configuration, that way if you slip or cut through one of them, you have some additional protection. Otherwise, for the most part, they don't seem too risky.

    Jake, i owned my own Heavy Haul trucking company and I can tell you, load binders are load rated for a reason. The bigger the item chaining down, the bigger the binder and yes the Commercial DoT guys pay attention to this and you don't want them tagging you for wrong binders. Safety first always young man. Good luck and stay safe out there!

    The risk involved, the price of the equipment, including inevitable repairs, and the fuel, and the travel time are monumental. Big trees are dangerous to own and cost a lot of money to manage. You are doing a phenomenal job with a very cooperative, cheerful attitude. I love to watch your work.

    My thoughts on double tied in is what if a limb knocked a gaff out of the tree and your other gaff somehow popped out as well. You would be falling the entire length of the tree catching here and there with your flip line. My dad used to climb power poles for the cable company when he gaffed out and slid down catching a long splinter in his thigh. Not a good time.

    The 'It won't cut through the flip line, cos it's steel cored' is a bit of a fallacy. The saw will cut the nylon outer, which then runs down the cable on the clamp side. The clamp only holds onto the outer sheaf.... Ask Buckin Billy Ray. . . He did the experiment.

    Watching you limb that Fir with only your flipline looks scary to some, even to me, and that is the way I have always done Firs. Having a line running up to an anchor point puts the rope right where I am waving a saw around and in my opinion adds a level of complexity to a job that demands attention to all details. I just depend on the flipline and pay very close attention to where it is and where the saw is. When you cut a Fir branch at the trunk you can hinge it. It usually will not hinge when cut out a foot or so. Also depends on the season, in the spring branches are not so brittle.
    Good tree services (imho) do not "sell" their services. They offer a service that people want and need. If the homeowner saves $100 or so to go with someone less qualified, they are not the client you need. You seem to be doing well for just getting into your own business. When more clients know your work and recommend you to friends, you won't have to "sell" anything. I am just a small operator not trying to grow big. If I was trying to grow a multi-crew company I would probably think differently

    You’re pricing seems fair for out in the country; curious how many hours this took on-site - guessing about 4-5. Much higher you will not be competitive with the cowboys.
    I tend to agree with the safety police commentators - 2 ropes when cutting. Self rescue is always preferred plus you have such a huge following that inadvertently you are going to get cocky young climbers injured or killed because they are looking up to you…
    With great content comes great responsibility.
