      I loved Hawaii 5-0!!!
      "Jenny," "Danno," "Chin Ho," "Kono," "Chay," "Duke," "Ben," all great.
      ... but I never cared for "McGarret."
      As a matter of fact; I liked "Wo Fat" more than "McGarret...
      My now deceased mother liked Jack Lord, though.

      @@kidmack3556 I liked McGarrett. He was the one in charge of the operation and I didn't find anything wrong with him. It was a serious show, so he was a serious character.

      I've recently learned that Lord wasn't the producer's initial choice for the part.
      Among others, Gregory Peck was on the short list, and I have always liked him.
      I can't remember any role that he didn't absolutely own.
      Lord was "McGarrett" I can't deny him that.
      But I feel Peck would've been my choice if I had a choice.

    • @vrinda5303
      @vrinda5303 9 днів тому

      @@kidmack3556 Many actors are not the first choice for a role. It's not unusual. Rory Calhoun was the first choice to play James West on The Wild Wild West and Pat Hingle was the first choice to play Artemus Gordon. Tammy Grimes was originally offered the role of Samantha on Bewtiched. Walter Matthau was considered for the role of Robert Hogan on Hogan's Heroes.
      Gregory Peck was never considered for the choice of Steve McGarrett. That was just a Hollywood myth. I know this because I know a woman who wrote a book about Hawaii Five-O years ago, and she found this out from relatives of Leonard Freeman, the executive producer. There was no evidence that Peck was ever offered the role. He was a movie star. How many movie stars, at that time, did a TV series? That was considered a step down in their careera. It's the same belief now.
      The actor who was hired to play McGarrett was Robert Brown, who went on to play Jonathan Bolt on Here Comes the Brides. CBS changed their minds and dropped him from the McGarrett role. CBS suggested Jack Lord because he had a contract with them and was supposed to a western that got scrapped to keep Gunsmoke on the air. Freeman worked with him on another show and thought he would perfect for the role so he said that if Jack wanted it, it was his.

    What a fantastic episode...Television acting was top notch in the sixties....And Jack Lord...wow,what an actor...I was 12 in 1980...and Hawaii Five-O was on every weekday at 3 PM I rushed home from school to watch it...I loved that show so much and Jack Lord was such a star as the incredible Steve Mcgarett.He is gone now...But he left his mark...and I will always have the greatest respect for his abilities..

    Jack Lord was a compelling dramatic actor, unique in looks and intensity. I watched Hawaii 5-0 relentlessly. His history seems to implicate his cold edge offscreen as well. His short first marriage produced a son, whom he only saw once as an infant. His first wife never told him the son died at age 12, she sent him the death certificate instead! pretty dreadful relationship! is sometimes ironic how some people demise. He was such a sharp intense talker onscreen, but he developed alzheimers (signs of it at the end of the Hawaii 5-0 series) and likely could not remember lines/was less cognitive after decades of being so sharpminded. Reminds me of Bruce Willis scenario, a sharp witty character who is demising of aphasia, inability to remember or think/talk coherently.

      That story about him seeing his son only once and the boy dying in a boating accident came from the tabloids. Jack never talked about his son in any official interview. The boy died of an illness when he was 12. It's not known what relationship Jack had with him.
