Dreamcatcher have 3 Lore/ Universe. The Nightmare Series, Dystopia Trilogy & Apocalypse Trilogy. Musically, each Lore have their own distinct sound/ vibe. Nightmare Series (J-Rock vibe). Dystopia Trilogy (EDM Rock). Apocalypse Trilogy (Experimental Rock).
Welcome back! "Chase me" was their debut, released on January 13th (a Friday), 2017. It must have been nerve-wrecking for the members, re-debuting with a genre that is not popular in Korea after Minx failed. 5 of them were Minx before, a group with a standard cute concept that went nowhere. Most companies would have just dropped them, but Happyface is different, luckily. And they already doubled their sales with this. They stuck with the Rock/Metal vibe until today, now selling 50 times the albums than Minx did.
This is the start of the Nightmare arc, which spans 6 MVs and 1 Japanese release. They are Nightmares here, and the Nightmare hunter is trying to dispel them - how that turns out is shown in the next one, Good Night. The whole arc seems to be a criticism of the Kpop industry, which makes a lot of sense with their history.
Deja Vu is nothing short of a masterpiece. It is a beautiful, fragile ballad that kicks your teeth down your throat in the chorus. It is extra difficult to sort out, because it tells the story from two perspectives. You know how even evil people think they are the good guys? This is reflected here. One perspective is Yoohyeon's, who gets corrupted right in the beginning. She thinks JiU is bad (does not want to share power) and backstabs her and kills, imprisons or banishes the other members so that she can rule alone. The other perspective is reality, where we can see JiU be kind to Yoohyeon, but she gets killed for it. I believe this is a commentary on the different perspectives people can have about the same event. The lyrics seem to hint at an abusive relationship, where there are usually two perspectives as well, and the abuser finds excuses to justify their actions, while the abused find themselves in an endless Deja Vu.
"Vision" is part 2 of the Apocalypse trilogy. I believe they are showing us the perspective from the future in this series, showing us how the earth looks like when we keep acting like we do. While "Maison" was talking about the destruction of the environment, here they seem to be talking about the destruction due to war. I don't know if that was the idea from the beginning, but Putin's aggression definitely played a role here. In one set they even dance in front of what looks sort of like a huge trident, which is the coat of arms of Ukraine (could be a coincidence though, or this is me seeing things). It could be about North Korea as well after all.
It is easy to see how the conflict in Ukraine could result in global destruction. It's just a push of a button away. Note that Dami presses a launch button, but it's not for nukes. It's for spreading their message, their vision. Peace. To be heard all around the world. The song is also a call for action, to stand together against aggressors and those who are destroying the planet out of greed. There is not much difference between someone leading an army or a corporation, if the result is destruction. Still, Dami said the intention is to resolve the problems in a peaceful way.
So, what do we do? There is no easy answer. Dami has an outfit that shows that perfectly. One half is an innocent bridal dress, the other half is simply badass. What I know is that any aggressor only listens to very limited diplomacy, and they need to know that the good in the world is ready and willing to fight them if needed. Whoever the aggressor is, we are more than them. They need to know they will never succeed, the only option is peace.
By the way, my interpretation could be completely wrong, any other theory is perfectly valid as well.
Musically, it's heavier than Maison, and I feel it fits the subject matter very well. It sounds aggressive and heavy, but also soft and vulnerable. There is the duality again. And I love the fake keychange at the end of the chorus, the crazy bass and the guitar in the bridge. All in all this is a fantastic release!
I am all for checking out dance practices. Dreamcatcher choreos are on the difficult side, you'll enjoy them!

With Dreamcatcher you literally have 7 vocal talent queens including the rappers! And all vocal queens can rap too! Also the 2 rappers Dami & SuA can do the highest notes of the group (at least they won the high note competition among other members in one of the talent show).

Dreamcatcher MV usually doesn't have this copyright issues...the one with copyright issues always from the broadcast channel, music show, studio, variety show other than Dreamcatcher official & Happyface Entertainment. But, sometimes the Japanese track quite tricky too coz it's under Japanese label. But, so far I don't see any copyright issues nor complaint with DC's Japanese tracks reaction...

SuA is also a rapper, just that she had pulled back from it and worked on her Vocals for a while. She did rap in Vision and in Reason and a little bit in BEcause. Since she pulled back, that is how Gahyeon got into rapping. :)

Dreamcatcher Dance Practices are amazing, the choreography is part of their story-telling. Also, Dreamcatcher led me to BTS, through a couple of mash-ups: Louder than Bombs x In the Frozen (which is perfect and seems like one song) and I Need U x Deja Vu (which seems like a call and response at times).
Thanks for another Dreamcatcher reaction! If 'Chase Me' was your favourite, I think you might enjoy their more J-rock influenced songs, like 'Eclipse', or the rest of the Nightmare series: 'Good Night' is the direct continuation of 'Chase Me', and then the other songs are, in this order, 'Fly High', 'You And I', 'What' and 'Piri' (there is also a Japanese song considered as an alternative ending of this storyline called 'Breaking Out').
Choosing a favourite song feels impossible once you dive into DC's discography 😅, so many great title tracks to choose from, and many more b-sides that are at the same level... but I guess I can say that 'Good Night', 'You and I', 'Piri', 'Deja Vu', 'Scream', 'Odd Eye', 'BEcause', 'Bonvoyage', 'Eclipse', 'Breaking Out' are among my favourite title tracks, but the others are great as well.
And I'm sure InSomnia will be all for it if you decide to check out a guide (I think The Ultimate 2021/2022 Dreamcatcher Guide by Dreamworld is the most complete) or dance practices. Enjoy your journey into the Dreamworld!

Yes, a guide would be a great idea! Seven members are a lot to keep track of. It took me a LONG time to get these ladies' names and faces straight and the guides really helped with that. Well, that and re-watching every video I knew of theirs over and over again. They are my Ult Group.
You have likely seen some dance challenges on either Tiktok or maybe UA-cam shorts. DreamCatcher have LOADS of friends because they are very nice and sweet ladies when not on stage. They try to make everybody comfortable and happy while waiting back stage for their turn to perform at the shows. DC made friends with SO MANY other groups that way! So, they ask their friends to do the dance challenges with them as often as possible.
The members of DreamCatcher also freak out just like regular fans when they come across some of the legendary groups or other idols from the First and Second Generation of K-Pop (DC is a Third-Gen group).
One member, Dami (the Main Rapper) is normally the quiet and reserved, stoic type of person. She's an absolute expert on one particular group from a previous generation and she FREAKED OUT and BLUSHED when she got to hold hands with the leader of her favorite group while both groups were on stage together. That was really fun to see!
Another member, Yoohyeon, sort of ran away from her favorite member of another group and even though they eventually traded phone numbers, Yoohyeon will never call that other person, she's so introverted! That freakout was funny, it was in front of everybody and the rest of the girls outed her as a huge fan...she turned as pink as the dress she was wearing at the time! lol
I’ll definitely be checking out a guide for them! They seem like great people from what you’ve all been saying, I can’t wait to get to know more about them!

Some quick info on the songs you watched and how they relate to their storylines.
Chase Me, their debut song, is the first part of the Nightmare Series. Sonically, this series is more heavily influenced by J-Rock and the storyline shows the girls being cursed as Nightmares and their quest to break free from it. The Lyrics in this series tend to deal with a lot of the internal struggles that people deal with. Societies expectations on us, loneliness, depression, etc. The songs in this series are

Breaking Out - This is the first Japanese release and is an alternate ending to the Nightmare series.
Deja Vu released just over a week after Breaking Out and was a collaboration with the mobile game, Kings Raid. This is a stand-alone MV and in place of J-rock we got an emotional rock ballad that tells the story of the characters from the game.
Vision is the second part of the Apocalypse Trilogy, so it was fitting that you said things looked apocalyptic, lol. The Apocalypse trilogy has primarily dealt with the existential threats that humanity faces in the forms of Climate Change and War. Bonvoyage was the 3rd part of this trilogy. Sonically, this trilogy used more experimental rock influences. The songs in this trilogy are

A guide is probably a good place to start if you're interested. There are two that I always recommend.
The Ultimate 2021/2022 Dreamcatcher Guide by Dreamworld. This is the most comprehensive guide that I've come across. It gives some information on their history, a small snippet of each title track up to BEcause, information on each member, and then information on the group as a whole. They also have a section on what content can be found on the Dreamcatcher UA-cam channel.
The second is the This Is _____ series by Insomnicsy. Insomnicsy (Kit) is -the- Dreamcatcher fan channel. The This Is _____ series focuses entirely on the members personalities. Currently it has 3 seasons, 2020, 2021, & 2022 and each season has one 7-minute video for each member. They're meant to be watched sequentially and don't have any overlapping content. Insomnicy's channel also has tons of compilations of DC content. The Dreamcatcher being Unfiltered Idols series is a personal favorite but there are hours and hours of compiled behind the scenes footage there. Kit's editing is also amazing and helps to highlight the chaos that is Dreamcatcher.
Also, just to give you something else to check out. Dreamcatcher have amazing b-sides and covers. Here are two recommendations, one a cover and one a B-sides, that you can check out to see their diversity.
Red Sun Special Clip - This is a b-side from their Dystopia: The Tree of Language album. The choreography for this song was done by SuA, the main dancer so this will give you something that's a different sound and is a dance performance.
Cover of 2PMs "My House" from KCON. This is a full group cover of My House performed for KCON. You'll probably need to put a filter on this one to keep it from getting blocked, just an FYI. This will also be your introduction to "Suitcatcher".

Welcome to the Dreamworld! New sub here. The video guide called "The Ultimate 2021/2022 Dreamcatcher Guide" is probably the best one. It's most people's favorite. There is also a series called "this is:" which has a bunch of separate videos for each member. With new ones each year so far since they started. Those give extra deep dives into the members but the Ultimate 2021/2022 guide is a great place for new fans to start for getting to know the group as a whole and a little bit of each members personality. All of the members are wonderful. :)

Welcome to the Dreamworld! We'd like to think we're a friendly and helpful fandom; the name of the fandom is InSomnia and we refer to ourselves as such (also, Somnias, Somnies etc.) but not Insomniacs, cos that's a different thing altogether.
For most reactors, the Dystopia trilogy (Scream, Boca, Odd Eye) is normally the best and most accessible introduction, with more EDM/Pop mixed with the rock elements, but I'm glad you liked the more J-rock/anime op vibe of their debut Nightmare arc. Personally for me, there are perhaps only a couple of title tracks in my own Top 10 Dreamcatcher songs (Odd Eye & Bon Voyage), while the rest are B-sides... their b-sides are really incredible and diverse.
And with regards to whether or not you should do a guide, I definitely think you should, and I would recommend either the Ultimate 2021/2022 Dreamcatcher guide by Dreamworld or the Get to know Dreamcatcher Guide by Driim. Be aware that these guides will have short clips of their title tracks and b-sides so that may be a bit 'spoiler'-ish for some. For most of us, we noticed them initially for their music/rock influence, got hooked by the rest of their music and finally stayed for their interactions/personalities.

Deja Vu was a collaboration with a game developer company, and Handong's part is still one of DC's legendary moments, not only because of her voice but also the choreo.
Definitely recommend to see their dance performance/practices since they choreographies are on the harder side among girlgroups and have interesting movements here and there.
It is hard to pick a favorite among DC songs, but Good Night (direct sequel to Chase Me), You & I, Boca, and Bon Voyage are definitely up there.
I'm (kind of) an Army as well so I don't mind you mention of BTS and I respect all kinds of opinion. Seeing you enjoy BTS's and DC's music makes me happy already.

You probably saw the ending part of vision because in their stage performance on mnet, siyeon (the one who ends in the middle) made a mistake and kept her arm up for too long. It looked like it belonged though so a lot of people were talking about it

I'm not sure of anyone told you this, but InSomnia means In Dream, not the thing that you can't sleep. They are the Dreamers, and we (as InSomnia) in their dreams. It meaning is way deeper than just a cool word play. :-)

InSomnia are simply called InSomnia, because it means "InDreams", and not being unable to sleep. The realm of Dreamcatcher is the Dreamworld, where we "dream of them". (The Dreamcatcher greeting is "Dream of Me".) In Korea, the fans also call themselves by the cute name Ssomnia, which roughly means being in a someone's boo (Ssom). In the US, the fans took this Korean word and use the plural Somnias, but I don't think it's not used in other parts of the World.
InSomnia Fan fact: The registered InSomnia member #000001 is JiU, the biggest InSomnia ever. Insomnicsy has a new video and shows us footage about this big Dreamcatcher rabbit fan.🐰

Mostly enjoyed your reaction. If I may offer some constructive criticism…it’s hard to get folks to stick around if the reaction doesnt happen until like 7 minutes into the vid. From my experience, the channels I frequent the most keep their intros to no more than 1.5 minutes. Just a thought. But if you’re just doing reactions as a hobby or for your own personal pleasure, then forget everything I just said.
The long intro in this video definitely isn’t my norm, I usually try to keep it shorter but I had a few issues with my last kpop video so there was some stuff I wanted to talk about, I should definitely put a time mark of where the reaction starts in future videos if I have this long on an intro again 😅 but thank you!!

Deja vu was a collaboration with the mobile game kings raid and had its own special album called raid of dreams. They would work with the team behind kings raid for their single eclipse for the king’s raid anime.
And you never have to worry about dreamcatcher company and copyright. Some other comment already covered it but I tossed it in just in case.
