Just put my monster beetle gearbox together today and thought that bushing was dumb... this video confirms it. Thanks for the tip!
😁👍 Yep! Have fun with it!
@@ShenRC did you do it both sides? Or just the side shown?
@@stevenzacharakis Yep both sides... make sure to degrease the area first before doing it so it sticks good.
Great tip, I never thought of that moving like that.
The RC Elf knows his stuff.
Good issue to point out. Good tip. A dot of super glue will work to. But way back in about 86 when I got my first R/C , Blackfoot. I noticed this problem soon after. I just used a pliers and crimped the aluminum edges slightly. You can even do this while assembled.
But the diff gears benefit greatly by very thin shims against the bearings. Build it so the teeth feel notchy, but rotate without much bind. It will break in after a few runs, but won't start skipping teeth. A very thin shim is all you need. I like useing a thin scrap of lexan body trimmings. Cut and drill to your desired specs. The edges by the flat tend to be the thinnest area. Different spots vary in thickness.
Happy R/C ⚡
Thanks, I use traxxas plastic washers I have 2 videos on how to shim the diff 😁👍
@@ShenRC Cool, I thought you might. Yea, I got a bunch of Traxxas washers to. They can be very usefull.
Cool, very interesting fix on this car Steve. I was so focused to the diff on my Blackfoot that I hadn't seen this. Thank you and the Elf for tis fix👍
No problem 👍
Brilliant😀
Thanks for sharing the wealth Shen Sir.😎👍🏻
No problem 👍
😎👍🏻
Interesting! I will have to check mine out now. Thanks for the heads up on it! That is Elf is just amazing, huge heart and a pit crew guy now!!
Yeah The RC Elf notices stuff most will never find. Thanks for watching.
That's interesting I have had this problem on a large scale in my vintage black foots and frog I found a nylon tube with a screw that goes through it with a washer on each side on ebay i put on one works good cool quick fix Steve
Thanks it's weird why they do this but it's a simple fix for sure!
Great tip. On my Blackfoot I had as a kid, my cousin used jel super glue on that bushing. I scored a Blackfoot off flebay so I’ll be doing something like this..
Thanks man, I did not use glue because this is that funky plastic that glue don't stick to.
Thank you dear friend for your fantastic sharing and have a happy week
Thank you! You too!
Great catch by the RC Elf, he doesn’t miss a beat! Excellent demonstration Steve!
👍😊
You got that right!
Wow, I never knew that. Thanks for sharing this awesome tip! I’m going to try it on my Frogs and Monster Beetle.👍🙏😊
Cool! I did all three of mine!!
Excellent tip! Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Great tip. Never would have noticed that.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome tips Steve and thanks to the RC Elf for sharing! I am off the workshop to see the spinning bushing for myself 😁
Your welcome, That's exactly what I did and I was surprised to see them all spinning round and round and round! LOL!!
Always a fresh look at everyday RC problems. This is a great fix.! Awesome video and good looking out my friend.!!
Glad you enjoyed it👍
I modded my frog by making some steel bushes that are a press fit so should be cured for good , keep up the videos 👍
That's great!! Thanks for looking too!
How can I get some of those steel bushes for my Blackfoot rebuild?
Great Tip. RC Elf is definitely on his game. Thanks for passing it along. Knowledge is power! Right On Brother 💪
Yep The RC Elf noticed little things most pass by and would never see.
Really nice tip, I would never had noticed that. I have a Monster Beetle to build so this was very helpful 👍.
Yep they all do it. use grease in the bushing and then do the stick tape job. 👍
Hi there Steve, and what a great tip from the legendary RC Elf. I’ve never noticed that before, so thanks for demonstrating and showing us a simple solution. Awesome job. Now, where my Subaru Brat…..he’s got that great ORV chassis too. Take care and best wishes to you and the family 😊😁😉
Glad to help 😁👍
Good tip I'll have to check my blackfoots to see if they're spinning
Cool! I am sure they will I thought mine would not spin but there sure did!
Great tips Steve ⚙️⚙️👍👍
I’m a little confused 🫤 , what is the actual problem with that plastic bush spinning? There is a bush also on the other side of the gearbox and they just cap off the spindle which in most cases is sitting in a coup,e of bearings on the counter gear so that the counter gear driven by the motor is spinning freely, to then drive the diff gear and out drives.
I am really not sure what benefit of sticking the tape on to stop the plastic bush from spinning is actually having on the general running of the blackfoot. Is it not designed to spin a little being a plastic bush in a round hole with no cut outs to stop it spinning.
Hi You do this so it wont eventually start getting real lose in the gearbox side plate from wear. Thanks for looking.
You are corrct. those bushings spinning have nothing to do with the ORV gearbox issues. The problem is that the metal sides of the transmission seperate when accelerating and cause the bevel gears and spider gears in the diff to slip and eventually strip out. the main diff gear and counter gear always stay meshed. also if you do want to stop the bushings from spinning there is a way better fix. when assembling the gear box simply put a small piece of black electrical tape and put it on the white cap as you push it into the metal gearbox from the inside. it keeps it tight and you wont have a big ugly piece of servo tape that everything sticks to hanging off the gearbox.

i put half / half tamiya ORV and put on traxxas stampede...
another car i put traxxas parts on the tamiya frog ORV...
both so beautifully...
already in my channel video
Cool! thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this great tip…!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great simple fix :)
Indeed! Thanks
This isn’t an issue if you build the gearbox correctly and use bearings
Hi it does it with bearings it's a faulty design from tamiya.I have bearings in all of my ORV chassis and been building rc kits for 40+ years.
Great video Steve just watched it 👍👌
Thanks very much.
Good to know. =)
Thanks very much.
I have no idea how you keep track of which transmitter goes with which vehicle. I know you've used the DumboRC transmitter, so, why don't you fill the transmitter with as many vehicles as it will hold (usually 10) and put 10 transmitters aside? As the elf sends you even more vehicles, it'll lighten the load.
I take a paint pen and write on the bottom of the remote what car it goes to
Hi I have a 30 model memory radio it's full and I have 2 -10 model radios almost full. it gets crazy with all the radios for sure! hanks for watching.
😁👍 Same here!
Does it even matter if it spins?
Hi it will make the shaft wiggle and make more play in the gear after a long time.
Why does it matter if it spins?
Hi it can wear and loosen up in the gearbox halves and could make the shaft wiggle around a bit and make the gears not run with tight tolerances. Thanks for watching.
@@ShenRC ok. Cool. I did not know that. Thanx
'
tamiya beetle / blackfoot / brat / frog / lancier ORV are the same chassics
😃👍 Yep!
Who is this RC ELF?
The RC Elf is a nice person who gives RC cars to youtube channels.
Try T-Rex tape it is better than gorilla tape
Awesome thanks for letting me know.
This is a non issue.
It rally is not that bad but that part should not be spinning in the gearbox side plate, after a long time of it doing this it will get lose in the side plate and the gear riding on it will move around like on a worn bushing because of it even though you have ball bearings in .
Waste of time makes no difference if that spins
If it does spin eventually it fits in the side plate even more loose then the gear that rides on this shaft can move and wiggle around it's always better to stop a part from wearing and causing play if you can.
Could i use a drop of super glue?
I think the tape would eventually get dirty, and lose its hold.
Hi the double sided stick tape works very well I guess you can try and glue it, but stick tape would be best just make sure you clean the whole area good first.
