Make Your Own Gelli Printing Texture Plates

  • This is a great idea for making your own texture plates for Gelli Prints. Easy to do and you can reuse them again and again.
    While exploring things to use on a gelli plate to create texture I came up with this idea. I'm using molding paste and a stencil to create a texture plate to use as you would a stamp.

    What I enjoy the most about this particular form of art is that often the finished piece is a total surprise . As well the " fails" . Useful tutorial , thank you for sharing . Your video have been suggested to me by You Tube , i have now subscribed and turned the notifications on . And i love , love , love the idea of creating those stamps out of modeling paste . I would give it a try for sure . I am contemplating to buy a ScaNcut Brother but at over £500 plus another £200 for extra bundle of knives etc , for now I would limit my stencils stash at what i can find online or hand cutting using acetate sheets , process that can be fun but tiring for eyes and hands . Loved that grungy looking paper , i would stencil on bold off white numbers and letters with a hint of bronze maybe and some 3D details and go from there .

    Hello. I started watching out of curiosity, stayed till the end,and subscribed.
    I liked the pull that you weren't so happy with, it reminded me of a Liberty print of an old garden that I saw, many years ago, and it's a happy memory, so thank you for that, albeit accidental, result.
    The final print is beautiful, and would make a lovely design for a cotton summer dress, not that I could create something like that 😢
    I never thought of using acetate to make stencils! Such a simple idea, and something that I could do! I have old dies, bought before mixed sets of dies, stamps and stencils were a thing, and I think some of them could be successful as stencils. I have acetate sheets, sitting in the drawer and doing nothing except gather dust, so nothing to lose by trying 😅
    You have a lovely, gentle voice, which made watching the video very restful.
    Thank you.

    I love this and those colours, too. I’d not know if it will work for you but I use a little rounded plastic palette knife to catch the paint as it comes out of the tube and then transfer it to the gelli plate. Basically, I put the paint onto the knife first. Ive managed to stop squirting out too much paint by doing this.

    Thank you for this awesome video! I think the reason your texture plate prints weren't as defined as the first one is maybe because after the first impression the plate was then loaded with paint so it didn't pull as much off the plate. Try offloading the paint by pressing it onto a paper towel each time you do an impression.

    To prevent the boards to warp, you could maybe glue (real glue) a "pull-paper" on the backside of the board like they do in bookbinding. 🙂

      You could also paint a wide 'X' on the back of your board, going from corner to opposite corner, in gesso. As it dries, the tension created keeps your plate flat.

    • @shirleyb2896
      @shirleyb2896 10 місяців тому +1

      I’ve found that brushing gel medium onto the back of the canvas board and letting it dry helps to flatten it out. When I mentioned this to a fine art painter I was told that the board warps in the first place because the canvas side is sealed but the back is not, therefore absorbs moisture from the air, causing the warping.

    At 13:59 You didn’t get a good impression the second time you stamped is because you didn’t “clean” your texture plate. I just stamp it onto another piece of paper until I don’t see paint anymore. You can also wipe it off with a dry paper towel.
