It is wild to me how ahead of their time these rockford amps where. I wasn't able to afford these new and never got first hand experience with the so it is neat seeing these videos.
Same situation here back in the days, I’m more than happy to get my hands on this stuff today, was so happy when i purchased my punch 40ix in 1995, they were more expensive in Germany 😎
@audiokeller8490 Oh yeah, I bet they were. Didn't think about that. I ended using memphis/fultron amps and kicker amps. The kickers were, of course, a solid amp. But the memphis/fultron amps were definitely a hidden gem at the time. Blew a good bit of speakers because I didn't realize just how underrated they were.
These were THE SHIT when I started building car stereo systems. They were pricey BUT you always get what you pay for with Fosgate!! I still run my 200a4 and 301M every day in my vehicle. They still work like the day they new! I have added the Prime 1200-1D and am equally as impressed.. so they have never strayed from the roots!!
Yes they were. They still set a standard today. Between always underrated, durability and sound quality they are very hard to beat. I have never used any external crossovers with my amps. I use only the built in ones and people ask me all the time where I hid the crossovers. I build for sound quality. No real concern for spl.
and they werent batch tested - each amp had its own certificate - a quality standard i dream of today. in my opinion " buying quality saves money and the environment " is something we lost with todays consumer-mass-products 🙁
@@audiokeller1975 none of my amps have ever been opened up. They have never needed to be. I have had them under seats, in trunks, on shelves.. You name it. I still run these old amps in my ridgeline.. Got two 200ix for two sundown sa8v3. Got a 60ix for back doors and a 160x4 bridged to 2 channel for front doors. Got 3 links hooking them together. Amps as long as my backseat. Lol. Best amps EVER made. Had the 200's and 60 since they were new in 94. Always had my 200's bridged at 2 ohm and never had a problem in 27 years!!!
Hi! You got a nice amp collection in your car!! After all these years , take a day for checking the amps. Check the idle current, thermal paste of MOSFETs and check for bulky capacitors. If everything is still fine, i think you will not face problems in the next 27 years :-) This is what i always do when i buy a punch amp with intact warranty seals :-) Its always amazing having one of these old amps on the bench and listen to them. I plan to make videos with measuring output power.
i got Two 200ix that needs to service. I want to know would they push 4 Ev12 Skar are i need to go with a whole nother amp. and get them service later? Just asking your honest opinion.
@@lesterrichardson6208 Hi! i never had a 45hd on the bench so i dont know if the design is similar to the dsm range. i fixed 200ix , 250m, 60ix, 100ix, 500a2, 225.2 they are very similar amps. i am located in germany.
Yes, they are still great amps, the 250x2 puts out 125 x 2 Watts RMS with low THD like the newer Punch 500a2. I connected a bridged mono punch 500a2 with big 12V batteries to some higher-SPL-PA-Speakers and that little amp was able to rock the outdoor party on the beach pretty well , it was loud and clear :-)
Great great video!!!👍👍👍 I have both of those series' amplifiers!!! I have a PUNCH 40i and a PUNCH 60i as well in the DSM series'!!! In the Gray PUNCH POWER Series' I have the a 50M and also the matching pair of it the 50x2 two channel amp!!! I believe you didn't show the rated Power and the DYNAMIC Power rating's for the Gray 50x2 two channel amp is that correct??? I would like to do an old school sound system with the two Gray PUNCH POWER SERIES' amps that I have!!! Which ROCKFORD FOSGATE PUNCH P2's or P3's series 12" inch subwoofers would you recommend to go with for either the 50M or for the 50x2 two channel amp and also I would be running some mids and highs front and back??? For the sub's I will be running two 12" sub's in a band pass box and the mids in highs I thought about running 6x9's in the rear back and maybe 2way components for the front and rear second roll passenger seats!!! If not 2way components then maybe just some 2way coaxial's speaker's!!! What kind of setup would you recommend??? Thank You!!! ✌️✌️✌️
hi! i cant recommend a system. i am completely out of that car audio thing for more than 20 years. i just remember that the punch rfr power series 12 inch woofers were great subs.
@@audiokeller1975 That's cool thanks!!! By any chance do you know if they ever made a 4ch amp in the Gray PUNCH POWER SERIES'??? I would love to own a Gray PUNCH POWER 250M like the one you showed in this video!!!
Hi! There were no 4 channel amps from the gray power series available back then. the power series were good performers into lower impedances. A 4 channel amp with the same properties like the gray power series would be an amp of big size because they would have much more output transistors or power supply transistors.
@@audiokeller1975 So that means if you wanted to run a 4ch amp in a sound system, you would have to use one from the BLACK PUNCH DSM SERIES, is that correct??? If so which one would you recommend to go with??? I haven't really ran into to many of those kind of 4ch amps before!!! I don't know to much about them!!! Thanks for all the information you are giving me!!!👍👍👍
you can also use the newer ones from end of 90s like the " darth vader " series. After checking them , the mainboards are almost the same like the older amps from mid 90s. They are just the same amps with a different heatsink-design. i prefer the mid 90s because they are easier to fix. the output devices arent soldered to " mehsa boards ". Just my personal opinion nothing bad about it. 👍
hi! the 500M is black and is the same amp like the grey 250M. there are just small differences. with the 250M you dont need an adapter for the status display.
@@carsforlife8292 Yes, thats the one. I will upload the video of it soon. so check back sometimes, because UA-cam deactivated sending mails to subscribers when new videos get online :(
Hi! In my opinion its always worth it to fix them. Is it a 200ix? Maybe the power supply fets died and the outputs fets have to be replaced together with some resistors or driver transistors. Thats a cheap fix. Where are you located? BR Andi
Thank you for your kind comment! Rockford didnt rate them 2 ohms mono ( RMS , FTC 20-20KHz which is not like listening to music ), this operation is like stereo 1 ohm per channel. But it isnt a problem for the DSM range, back in the mid 90s i ran a punch 40 ix 2 ohm mono with two 4ohm 10" woofers in antiparallel " push-pull " enclosure. It was never a problem even after 5 years. The punch 100DSM dynamic power in 1 ohm per channel is around 260 watts that means more than 500 watts of power in mono 2 ohm output power according to the IHF-202 standard at 14.4 battery volts. Some punch 100 ix DSM put out 569 watts mono 2 ohms. The power at 1 ohm mono goes down to 445 watts which equals 0.5 ohm per channel stereo. For lower impedance you should have the punch " power " series. These are real cheater-amps :-) I suggest a good cooling for mono 2 ohms for the punch ix dsm series amps. I dont mean an additional Air-Fan or something like this. But dont install them in the glove-box of your car if running 2 ohms mono. In all these years back then i only had to repair ONE(!!!) punch series amp, one output FET was dead and one power supply FET and its gate-resistor. Its cheap to bring them back to life! And, they are worth it!!
