I am truly invested in this campaign diary series. my friends refuse to acknowledge traveller as a potential game system for us to play in, so this is about as close as I can get to actual play without watching a 2-4 hour livestream.
I was once in a group that refused my game of choice. I stuck with them for years, playing the game they wanted to play, instead. My hope was that one day they'll give it a shot. They never did, but you know how I did eventually get to play the game I wanted? I found other friends who *were* interested.
I can see how there'd be mixed perceptions about this chapter. For the GM, as you said, you had the foreknowledge that it was all filler as far as the plot was concerned (and the campaign itself pretty much acknowledges that), but from the player's perspective it's an unexpected change of pace with all sorts of quirkiness to explore, a "we're not in Kansas anymore" romp through a pocket dimension. However, I'm sure the players were rather disappointed to have gotten all this fancy new scrap built tech only to have it stripped away before they could even use any of it. Easy come easy go I guess.
Im gonna be honest the idea of a traveller talking to a baby asking: What are you doing little one? And the baby answering him how it plans to build a nuclear reactor is funny. Great video.
Too bad the mother of the PC wasn't killed/reborn as a hot 20 year old. Of course with the cloning making a twin (possibly a different age) the PCs could get out from any legal issues as they should have new finger prints and retina prints and can claim to be a different person and produce documents of their prior selves turning over their properties. So what if you are wanted all over the Empire that was "your clone father" not you. Naturally being PCs they will promptly get to be wanted under all new crimes. (Reference the Widowmaker books by Resnick especially volumes 2 and 3 - literally just discovered there is a volume 4).
@@elhoteldeloserrantes5056 Gracias! Aunque yo maqueto los libros.;) He llevado la edición de Star Trek Adventures y he colaborado con otras traducciones, pero en esta línea solo maqueto.
I'm just the messenger. If Descartes wants to discuss the Tech Level a robot brain achieves true self-awareness he should take that up with the Traveller rules.
Welcome to traveller: The suspiciously wolf-like humanoids Vargyr were created as human-wolf hybrids by the ancients. Meanwhile the Aslan, suspiciously lion-like humanoids, are an alien species with no relation to humanity or the ancients at all.
I think most players do it from time-to-time to some degree (I certainly do, and they love calling me out on it), but some players do it a whole lot more often and lock their heels a whole lot harder than others.
I like the idea of using Paranoia style delivery tubes for the cloning room. Just have a tube pop out of the ground a bit after the character dies with a new, naked, and confused clone staggers out.
Thank you so much for the ongoing RPG review^^ This adventure really nails the good old sci-fi vibe to me. So many fun and cool ideas cramped into it :D
The diversity of adventure themes was a huge selling-point for me. When my players asked what skills would be handy for them to get, I said "Probably everything. Just as long as you can operate a ship and fight, but even obscure skills have moments when they'd be critical. You might want some Sciences. Can probably avoid Seafarer. Everything else might be handy."
First and foremost, I love this series. I look forward to them every month or so and watch them as soon as I can. They are great fun and I'd love to see more of these game reviews. Second, I love Seth's props from the Space 1999 comlocks to the heads for Lily and Ben. I also love that the crew has expanded and who doesn't love Amelia. Ps. Lily is a very good girl.
Seth really out here roasting the players hard on this one lol. I completely understand though. As a DM and as one of those players who can miss obvious hints or clues
You really ought to ask if they need a new editor as the amount of stuff missing/incorrect for Traveller and Call of Cthulhu adventures is astounding, and you keep coming up with fixes for them.
Yup, and with knowledge of the technology they saw the Travellers and Ilimdaki using against them. A few had already resurrected by the time the Travellers were flying their blimp above the Hunter Habitat and a few launched grenades flew up but missed.
As always truly wonderful! I am still a big fan of Lilly! I wish you and yours very nice holidays, and may they be filled with stuff you all enjoy! Sincerely, Alicia.
I love the videos, they're informative AND entertaining. My one complaint is Seth only being capable of one alternate speech pattern, so despite the costuming, ALL the NPCs he depicts sound exactly alike.
You have more patience than I do. Your suggestions/advice for Chapter 5 were great. After reading how poorly written Chapter 4 (the previous chapter) of the Book was, I gave up on the Adventure as a whole. I had to force myself to read the rest of the Book, in order to do my videos.
I dunno. I loved Ch4. The map had some errors on it and the "choice" at the end wasn't well presented, considering the campaign-ending stakes at hand, but I didn't find the adventure poorly written. I think the key difference is our approach. I didn't approach it as an adventure to review and come at it with a critical eye as a mental exercise. I approached it as a GM who was excited to show this cool spaceship to my players and I wanted to make sure I found and removed all the wrinkles ahead of time to help us have a fun experience while playing it.
This definitely felt out of place in the story, but I think it sets up Grandfather really well. It's sort of a peak into his current psyche of abandoned Bell jar experiments. I really enjoyed your additions (as always) really makes it feel like a GrandfatherLand theme park! Again i find myself kicking myself for running this before you, i had not thought about it much before we got there and my players still had a functional Star Hunter, they landed in a clearing of Hunters, one walked out and quickly picked up their language. One of my players (my dad who's been playing since '85) handed them one of his revolvers, he keeps a dozen or so to give to low tech locals, and they flew off to the custodian. Never even met an ilimdaki 😂
Just cause it's filler doesn't mean it's not fun! Just think of "Post-modern Prometheus". And in a situation like this, it can be useful to have that gap period between HUGE lore drop and then asking everyone to make decisions on that lore. I also think it primes the players to have a firmer understanding of how Grandfather operates. I'm also going to LAUGH my ass off if Emilia shows up with all their gear and the Star Hunter after "commandeering" a group of Star Children to fly it. Like, left to her own devices, she just hacks through all the blocks. Called the star port AI from the Custodian's place to turn off the grav lock on a bluff. Just to ride in like Gune at the end of Titan A.E.
I think the only reason Seth started playing Traveller is so he could make his furry suit a tax write-off. Do your players have any input on your content or is it just you? Also i thought the kaleidescope metaphor was satisfyingly apt. Thanks for all the great videos!
this is really getting good, and im interested to see what comes next. Also you need an amelia for your skits i honestly think she is one of the best additions as having this arrogant little astromech thats also saving their buts like r2 d2 funny. I wonder if the fate of the universe will come down to a little droid in the end
I have to admit until you explained it, I thought they needed to kill Benjamin to move forward. Watching this a 2nd time, that whole scene is hilarious.
Enjoyed all of this so much. I knew about Grandfather but little else. One question: why did every sector pretty much show red for all of them? Was no place considered safe? Looking forward to seeing how your players do next time.
The Human PCs were close, but not exact matches to the Ilimdaki's genetics, so they didn't pass. Same for the Vargr to Hunter DNA. Close but not enough to pass. The Aslan wasn't close to anything in the Habitats, so all of the Habitats flashed red instantly for him.
It may have seemed pointless and railroady from your perspective, but from a player's perspective, it sounds like a ton of fun. The Stakes were real. Ie, escaping the universe, avoiding the Seven, saving the Nice People from the Evil People, etc... They can Carte Blanche on how to do it, even if they had to realize it themselves (the Ruby Slipper Syndrome)! AND, it wasnt ALL JUST A DREAM! Even if they get out of this with nothing to show for it and no one believes them, they know it was real.
Awesome video Seth! Wanted to ask if you had any thoughts on VtM or the World of Darkness in general? It sounds like it'd be right up your alley (heavily inspired by R. Talsorian's Cyberpunk series, horror twist) and it's quite prolific yet you haven't discussed it. Does it just not strike your fancy?
It's a CSI STAR XR-5 airsoft gun. I liked it because it wasn't based off any real-world gun and also had some variant parts and cover colors I could swap out. If you go back to Ep1, Otter's rifle is black with a foregrip and different stock before he upgraded to his current white rifle in Ep2.
Oh no, from the intro, I am now wondering if the thing I mentioned in the first episode is still in the module... (Edit: Okay, the Hunters did come up, but not how I had hoped. I last read the original module like, ten years ago so my memory of how it goes down is hazy and this is a complete rework of that original. Lily coming to the conclusion that they were actually mutant werewolves and not Vargr is amusing though.)
I am truly invested in this campaign diary series. my friends refuse to acknowledge traveller as a potential game system for us to play in, so this is about as close as I can get to actual play without watching a 2-4 hour livestream.
I hope one day you can convert them or find a group to play it with.
I was once in a group that refused my game of choice. I stuck with them for years, playing the game they wanted to play, instead. My hope was that one day they'll give it a shot.
They never did, but you know how I did eventually get to play the game I wanted?
I found other friends who *were* interested.
Look up an on line group , and get to enjoy traveller
"The mathematical formula for toast is pi!" I mean...I'd trust it, that AI's onto something.
Ai is clearly the only sabe being un that planeta, a visionary
Consistently Excellent stuff, Seth! Please never stop the "You know..." bit.
Agreed. When there’s no “you know…” It feels sadly incomplete!
I can see how there'd be mixed perceptions about this chapter. I love the AI 'good girl' bit, lol. Seth, thank you and your players for all you do; always engrossing
Im gonna be honest the idea of a traveller talking to a baby asking:
What are you doing little one?
And the baby answering him how it plans to build a nuclear reactor is funny.
Great video.
I mean, that's just an average conversation with Stewie Griffin.
Too bad the mother of the PC wasn't killed/reborn as a hot 20 year old.

I really appreciate your regular content!
Oh yes ich say the same! Every second week i need my new Video. Thank you for this gift!
A whole world to explore, and a time limit?
The ultimate tease!
Been waiting for this!
Is funny how, despite having directed this i am enthralled every episode to see how your players do things. :D
Also, keep the errors and mistakes you find in the book coming, as we will try to correct all of those in the spanish version ;)

@29:41 when your assault rifle is so powerful it adds light to your dimension like in the wizard of oz with every muzzle flash.
Always happy to hear “hello internet…”
Great series Seth, I am looking forward to the next installment.
43:56 I feel this AI should have had the Bonesaw voice and called him a peanuthead before hanging up on him. 🤣
"Yeah...players."
So true!

"She thinks she's sentient, but she's not quite there". René Descartes wants to have a word with you.
I'm just the messenger. If Descartes wants to discuss the Tech Level a robot brain achieves true self-awareness he should take that up with the Traveller rules.

That's not Traveller , that's just the Thied Imperium setting. Which sucks.
One player locking in the solution and disregarding all evidence to the contrary reminds me of my current Curse of Strahd campaign haha
I think most players do it from time-to-time to some degree (I certainly do, and they love calling me out on it), but some players do it a whole lot more often and lock their heels a whole lot harder than others.
Always love these videos seth, helps keep me focused while painting and thinking of ideas for my own games 🙂

A new Seth video! It's a good day.
11:48 Wow! The special effects on this show are out of this world! :D

I wish I was the type of GM that just puts players in Saw-type situations.

YESSSS. Just finished both your Traveller campaigns with GCN and was needing a fix.
Thank you for this birthday present, Seth.
So good! And the effort you put into the production is unbelievable!
Imagine how it would’ve went if Peachy’s mom actually died and then came back as a clone an hour or so later
Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Keep these videos coming.
I agree with Jack, that this adventure got me thinking about Paranoia.
Although I do not play Traveller I enjoy the walk through and ideas presented, it always adds something to my knowledge!
13:50 pretty much perfect player logic, and I'm excited to be a part if it, lol
this is my favorite campaign diary yet. just rewatched the whole thing. can't wait for the next one!
I consume these videos enviously, wishing I had a great gaming group like yours.
always a good day when you release a new video. Thanks for your insight and extra thoughts/downloads to run adventures.
Seth really out here roasting the players hard on this one lol.
I completely understand though. As a DM and as one of those players who can miss obvious hints or clues
Who is your pal? Loyal to the end,
Serve Skippy! Skippy is your friend!
Thanks, great story. I don´t care about Traveller (only played it once), but love the recap ^^
Thank you very much.
Grandfather sitting there looking like Baphomet is a nice touch!

That didn't click for me. Good catch.
You really ought to ask if they need a new editor as the amount of stuff missing/incorrect for Traveller and Call of Cthulhu adventures is astounding, and you keep coming up with fixes for them.
new? I'm not sure Mongoose Publishing employs one, however much I enjoy their versions of Traveller.
Yay! Part 5 is here!
You once dated a raging wolf creature that was a super genius and hated everyone and everything but itself?
The worst part is when you realize that there is a chance the Temple will just bring the Hunters back to life and pit them back in their habitat.
Yup, and with knowledge of the technology they saw the Travellers and Ilimdaki using against them. A few had already resurrected by the time the Travellers were flying their blimp above the Hunter Habitat and a few launched grenades flew up but missed.
"I believe I dated one of these things" 😆 I frickin lost it 😂
Great content as always. Especially with how you narrate the whole episode.

Great adventure path and great game log. It’s really cool to see how other players handled the same situation my group did.
Thank you, Seth!
Great video as always!!!
Watching this has made me really wish there was an actual play / real play of his group playing. Sounds like it would have been a blast to watch.
Superb episode for me because you've given me ideas for my Modern-Day mad scientist campaign. Cheers.

Great video Seth!
Been looking forward to this.
The habitat sections remind me somewhat of Jack Chalker's Wellworld.
Thank you for the video.
I mean I do like the idea of a puzzle where the GM just puts everyone in a room and says "one must die" to see what the players choose to do.
I WAS JUST BINGE WATCHING THE AD&D VIDEOS, HOW DO YOU DO IT SETH?!?!?!?!
