Love the perspective on leg locks! Very refreshing to say the least. I have never hurt myself or any training partners in the past 15 years practising them or competing as I use them. Thanks!
Absolutely. Basically to hit the kneebar from the guard or half guard you end up inverting and rolling, so it helps to train the rolling kneebar from turtle first.
You posted this 9 years ago and I’m barely now finding it! (I’ve only been training for 6 years, but still) My head must have been in the sand or elsewhere 😂 Thank you for this gem! I’ll add it to my tool box.
great stuff as always Stephan. thank you! you know what leg lock actually scares me the most? hint...from the 50/50. and no, it's not the heel hook. the heel hook from 50/50 is actually pretty easy to defend. the submission that scares me the most from 50/50, the one where I usually get finished, is actually the straight ankle on the leg that's in the 50/50. the guy can usually push me away using the leg entanglement so I can't reach his hands and break them apart. think you could make a vid?
this is one variation , but what about for example if your passing their guard or on top in the half guard and they are able to straighten the legs just by extending theirs . You can do this type on top and bottom. This black belt keeps catching with it and it hurts like hell !
Don't get caught... If you've long legs... shoot it in, or pray with your feet... another technique is for you to push the foot being attacked into his armpit.. stay aggressive & then step over..
Someone with bjj experience please tell me, I feel that if someone trained on a hip abduction machine they would be better at knee bars than someone who doesnt my question is would they be able to do knee bars better than someone who doesn't bc I see that you have to pinch your knees together and that's obviously what you do with the machine so I was just curious
thatguitarguyguy thankyou 4 replying i want to learn BJJ and i will when i can put the time into it that the art deserves it looked like it would but id rather not assume and ask ppl who have BJJ xp as oppose to doing something that wont help and may even hurt my technique bc the extra muscle
***** If you don't have the timing, reflexes, and technique, it wont matter how strong you are because you wont have the skills to utilize that strength.

I'm impressed by every video you post. It's not just showing a technique, you impart wisdom for so many possible situations effortlessly.

Ty Stephen
You’re very welcome
1. Flex your knee (heel to butt) to prevent kneebar.
2. Pry his top knee open towards you.
3. Twist your foot away.
4. Slink away.

any tips for breaking the triangle for when your opponent crosses their legs?
Used ShepherdSurvives handbooks and learn about with no problems.
does anyone know any fights these techniques have been used in mma? would love to see it in action
what about the straight ankle lock?
I was the 500th like
1. Triangle your legs.
2. Get Knees to mat.
3. Crossface!
4. Sprawl!
